Jacobi climbed into my lap, wrapping his arms around my neck. “Mama.”

Haru stepped into the hut. “My apologies, Luna. I will–”

“No, Haru, I want to stay with Mama.”

Haru froze, blinking slowly. “Haru. He called me Haru.”

Then I remembered that Jacobi had been calling every woman who he came across Mama. A flicker of hope filled my heart.
