Scarlett’s POV

Zion and I ran, although we didn't hear Franklin coming for us. The howls and roars had died down by the time we got very far away from the house. I made sure to mark my path by clawing several trees around. It was pretty dark, and the moon was our only source of light. It was doing a very good job, considering that it was just a quarter moon.

“What was that?” Zion asked, breathing really fast. He bent over, supporting his weight by holding his knee .

“Erm… a mountain lion, I guess.” I said, also breathing hard as I marked the last tree.

“That's one hell of a big mountain lion then,” Zion said, breathing slowly now, and recovering slowly, “because that sound doesn't come from anything ordinary.”

“I've spent two days in this forest, and I know that there's nothing ordinary about this place.” I sighed, leaving the tree since I was done marking it. It was the only one I properly marked. I only slashed the barks of the others.

“Why have you been marking the trees?” Zion

Franklin's POV “Let there be order!” Jon's beta growled from beside him. The chatters and murmurs suddenly vanquished, and there was absolute silence. No one said anything, and everyone just folded their arms and stared. “Now, let's hear your reasons.” Jon said, and there were a few murmurs. The best way to end this discussion is to make sure it never rises again. And that means stopping it now. The left prime minister was about to speak when I coughed. Everyone looked in my direction, and I smirked. “I'm sure the King has his reasons for entertaining this line of discussion, but I'd like you to think very well before you speak.” I said, darkening my eyes. The people that could see my face, especially the left prime minister, were terrified, and I really liked it. I started walking slowly towards him, and thankfully, he didn't try to move back. I'd hate it if it were obvious that I was trying to intimidate him. “I'd like you to think properly before you speak or lay ill claims a

Scarlett's POV “Is there even anything you can do?” Michelle asked me. I sighed at the question because it had been ringing in my head ever since Zion called me. I was glued to my chair, and I had zoned out already. “I don't know.” I muttered, shaking my head slightly. “What can I even do at this point?” “I don't know.” I repeated. “I can't even leave the academy talkless of going back to him, and who knows if he hasn't already given in to the demon wolves already?” “I guess we can only try, but that totally depends on what you decide.” She muttered, closing the windows. She was going to lock the door when there was a light knock on it. Michelle opened it and glared at whoever was standing on the other side. The glare was so not friendly that I was feeling bad for whoever it was already. “P…pl… please… is Scarlett in?” Chloe's soft voice came through. “Get in.” She rolled her eyes, letting Chloe walk in. I had already stood up, crossed my arms, and I was aggressively eyeing he

Thane's POV We spent three full days on the road. Thankfully, I was in a separate car from Jane and Joe all through the ride. I only saw them when it was time to eat or do anything else. I had been locked up in a room for goodness knows how long. I lost track of time because it was always dark. I had been starved of food, but I was sure it wasn't long because I wasn't feeling close to death yet. I was also tied to a chair, and every locomotive activity I could have performed to remain sane was gone. I could only close my eyes and think of freedom, and how I'd cherish it better. I'd see Scarlett every single time I close my eyes, and a smile would appear on my face. The door opened, and I jolted, but my motion was negligible. The corridors of the place she walked from were always dark, so I still couldn't tell whether it was night or day. I was going insane. “How are you?” Jane asked, switching on a light. I shut my eyes immediately, trying to acclimatize to the light that had bee

Franklin's POV I surged back to consciousness to see Jessica towering over me. I totally remember her from my childhood. We were practically inseparable, and her company was the best. At first, I could barely see, so I was forced to stare at her face until my eyes would stop rolling. Her eyebrows were full, and she still had the usual tenderness her eyes possessed. There was a wet handkerchief in her hands that she used on my face, which could only mean that I was running a fever.“You're awake.” She said softly, massaging my head easily. “You should still stay on your back for a while.” I groaned, trying to stand stubbornly, but my body wasn't having it. I was still grounded, moaning and groaning. “How long have I been here?” I asked as she continued what she was doing. “About three hours. Your body has been burning up ever since.” She responded. “The Queen is worried, and she insisted on getting help. Supernatural help.” “Why? I just fainted.” I asked.“And you burnt up the wh

Scarlett's POV Thane barely said a word for the rest of the time we spent together, and now I was watching them drive off with everyone else in the pack. Something was definitely wrong with the way he drew back after Jane walked in. I could only hope that he was only trying to be funny when he spoke about actual torture. “Such a good, well accomplished boy.” Arya said , shortly followed with a sigh. I gave her the side eye and paid her no attention any longer. I walked in immediately they were out of sight. I made for my room immediately, but I was stopped by Matthew's horrendous voice. “Scarlett, when do you intend to leave for the Academy?” He asked. “Or would you prefer to wait it out with us at home?”I scoffed, hissing silently. “I'll leave tomorrow.”“Don't get any of those stupid ideas. You will get to the Academy, and when the time is right, you will go to the South!” Arya growled. “You need not shout, you're getting too veiny for a lady.” I said, leaving the living room

Thane's POV I had just gotten back from the errand I was sent, and the aura I felt just walking in from the gates was so strong and sad. The house was barely ever happy unless the wolves were doing something to have fun, but this one was particularly sad. I walked in, and headed straight for my mother's room. Surprisingly, she had a smile on, which was very random. “You're back.” She said, taking the candle from me. I didn't bother asking what she wanted to use it for, because what use would it be?“Pack your bags. We're leaving today.” Joe said like I hadn't had enough bad news. My stomach did the grumbling for me. I have to go through immense torture at home and still be far away from Scarlett. “Why are we leaving today?” The question slipped out of my mouth.Joe looked taken aback, but he still replied. “The pack house is ready.” He said, looking at me with a hardened face. “Isn't it?”“No, it's not.” Jane responded, and I almost felt relieved until she spoke again. “They said
