“Darlene Roberts, you're under arrest for the death of George Martins.”
I look up with misty eyes only to see a bunch of cops, guns blazing and aimed at me. Funny enough, I don't even freeze neither do I panic. My attention goes back to my ex lover whose limp body is still warm with blood oozing from his forehead and chest. His shirt is torn and his big eyes are staring blankly at me. I've managed to help shut his mouth which was agape and his twisted lips. It seems he had put up one hell of a struggle before he gave up the ghost.
“You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in the court of law.”
He repeats and pauses and I hear a shuffling behind me. I'm about to be handcuffed.
“You have the right to talk to a lawyer for advice before we ask you any questions. You have the right to have a lawyer with you during questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you before any questioning if you wish.”
He goes on and on.
My eyes are still glued at the limo and bloody body of George. He didn't deserve to die like this. Nooo!
A moment later, I'm roughed up, cuffed and manhandled to the waiting police van, guns still pointed at me. I look at my palms when I feel them sticky. They're full of blood...George's blood.
“If you decide to answer questions now without a lawyer present, you have the right to stop answering at any time...”
The cop's voice has now become tedious. I'm still wondering why the guns are still pointed at me and I didn't even attempt resisting arrest.
I choose to remain silent and make a mental note to call my lawyer when we arrive at whatever hell hole they're taking me to.

“Where's her gun? I mean the one she used to kill him with?”
The officer who seems to be the bigger in rank questions.
I'm already seated on the cold floor of police waiting room, my hands cuffed from behind as if I'm a dangerous criminal.
Yet...
I'm not ready to talk.
Will they believe me?
Believe the fact that this is all a set up?
“It's in the van sir!”
I look up at him and he doesn't blink an eye neither does he flinch.
I've just been framed and whoever did it must have been good at it.... Leaving no traces.
The cop marches outside and comes back with something wrapped up in a piece of clothe.
The higher ranked cop whom I later come to learn he's inspector Alec secures his hands with gloves and unwraps the parcel, which happens to be the gun I found at the crime scene.
I'm sure by now the gun must be full of my finger prints because I picked it up from George's chest and inspected it before freaking out and throwing it away in a nearby bush.
Did George kill himself!?
If not, who did?
Who was the anonymous caller?
A lot of questions are running through my mind such that I don't see inspector Alec moving towards me.
“Why did you kill him?”
His tone is firm.
He's a no nonsense man and he seems now more than ever, ready to get answers.
“I.... I... I need a lawyer... my lawyer!” I say firmly, still not looking up at him.
“If that will make you speak, then call him!”
He retorts.
“My.. my... My phone!”
I hear his call out to another cop to bring my phone as he sits back on his chair infront of me.
My phone is brought and for once, I wonder how I'll unlock it since my hands are cuffed at my back.
The cop rounds to my behind and uncuffs me.
“You're highly guarded!” He warns.
“A single move and you're dead!”
*THREE YEARS AGO*
“Hello darling.”
George sounds bored over the phone.
“Hello dear, are you okay?”
I'm so concerned right now.
I can tell perfectly well that everything ain't alright.
“Yes dear. I'm alright.”
He replies and hesitates for a moment.
“Darlene.... ”
“Yes!”
“I just wanted to inform you that I won't be around to celebrate this year's Valentine's day with you. My boss and I will be attending a business Congress abroad... ”
I cut him short with my groaning.
“Don't worry dear. I'll make it up to you, okay?”
“But darling, remember we didn't celebrate Christmas nor new year together. You.... ”
I begin to argue but he cuts me short.
“We'll celebrate Easter together I promise.”
He tries to reason with me but I'm still unsatisfied.
“It's okay love. When are you travelling?”
I ask, already bored.
“The day after tomorrow, but...”
“Then I can come over and bid you goodbye? Wednesday is still too far you know?”
I say excitedly.
“No need for that love. I'll pass by your house after job today.”
George assures me.
“But darling, I needed to come over...”
I grunt, checking myself out in the mirror.
Well, today is Monday and Mondays aren't busy days for me. I'm just from the office and I'm just from the bathroom, heading to the kitchen to prepare super.
“Don't bother your pretty head baby. I'll pass by today...”
He tries to assure me.
“Okay dear, see you later..”

I'm busy setting the dining table when George Martins finally arrives. He looks tired after a long day at work and after hugging and kissing him, I quickly run him a hot steamy bath.
Minutes later, he's out of the jacuzzi, looking all fresh and lively.
We eat noisily, catching up because George was busy all through the weekend.
You see... George is a cool guy.
Caring, loving, romantic, fun to be with and on top of it all....he's a monster in bed. However, I r been waiting for his proposal but it ain't forthcoming. I just have to be patient.
Well...
After dinner, we watch a movie till I pass out on his chest.
I feel him lift me up and carry me bridal style towards my bedroom.
I'm fully awake when he finally lays me on bed. I smile at him sleepily when he plants a kiss on my lips and before I can withdraw, I attack his lips with my already alert ones and we kiss hungrily.
One thing leads to another and before we know it, I'm panting on top of George, riding the hell out of his groins....
****
My alarm goes off at exactly 6am and I groan loudly. I turn to snooze it and my sleepy head bumps onto a hard body..
My mind snaps, forgetting that I was in the company of my love.
“Good morning love.” He greets.
“Morning babe.. I hope I haven't woken you up.”
“I'm already awake. I want to rush to my house and change before I go to the office.”
George works as an accountant in a large firm in the city. He's well paid and he drives the coolest machine I've ever seen.
My car is a toy compared to George's Bugatti...
Well, such is life!
“Oh! That's okay. I'll sleep a little bit then prepare for job as well.”
I say sleepily.
George takes advantage of my sleepy head and tickles me just between the ribs.
I chuckle cheekily as I try to resist but I finally give in.
“How about we get into the bathroom together, take a steamy hot bath then bid each other goodbye? We can as well make it up for the five days I'll be away!”
Waoh!
That sounds like one hell of a cool idea.
He doesn't need to ask twice.
I climb out of the bed with him in tow and less than thirty seconds later, we're both lying in the jacuzzi, lathering each other's bodies.
“Do you know that you're beautiful Darlene?”
George says as he traces feather like kisses on my neck.
“You've just told me dear.”
I giggle like a teenager as he fondles my breast, pinching my sensitive nipple.
“And I love you so much... So so much.”
“How much?”
“You can't just imagine how much!”
George turns me over and hovers over me, planting a kiss on my lips for the umpteenth time.
I respond to his kiss with a moan after another.
After a quick session of romance, we make steamy love, rinse ourselves and dress up quickly.
Unaware of his intentions to end our relationship, this turns out as his way of biding me goodbye.
This too marks the beginning of my unending miseries...
Three days have elapsed since George traveled. His phone ain't going through and he hasn't made any attempt to call me.Every time I try his number, it sends me straight to voicemail. He promised to keep in touch and if this is how he goes about it, then he must be so good at it.Damn!I can't concentrate on work this Saturday morning...I just can't. All my thoughts are on George and I keep on asking myself if he's okay. But since he promised to keep in touch, I decide to give him the benefit of doubt. He always sticks to his word and this time won't be different. My mind is still preoccupied in thoughts when my phone rings, startling me and making me snap from my reverie.“Hey bitch! Long time... ”It's Kate Dominique my one and only best friend.“Hey gal....”Oh my gosh! I've been so much preoccupied with trying to reach George such that I forgot she existed.
I toss and turn in bed uncomfortably. I'm unable to sleep due to my obsession towards George. I haven't heard from him the whole weekend as well and today I Sunday night.I'll have a busy day tomorrow because we'll be in a meeting with the boss for the better part of the day.Yesterday night, I managed to sleep well due to the wine I took. I kept myself busy through out the day just to avoid thinking about him. However, tonight I can't dare drink because of tomorrow...I pick my phone from the nightstand and check the time. It's half past midnight. No missed call..No text message..Nothing.I groan in irritation as I return the phone back onto the stand.Suddenly, an idea strikes..Why not check his social media pages.Obviously, his WhatsApp last seen is over a week ago and the profile pic is the same.I click on the Facebook icon and search his Facebook username
As I drive towards Craft holdings, I know I'm making a mistake but I've nothing to lose so far. It's like I've already lost George...I only want to confirm my fears.I know he doesn't leave the office early and if he does, I'll get all the information I need from Claire the ever nosy receptionist.Upon parking, I recheck myself on the mirror and upon confirming that I can't look any better, I climb out of my car and head for the elevator. I can't spot his car anywhere in the vicinity but I decide to walk in all the same. His office is in the second floor and with my four inch heels, I can't walk there.Claire is there at the reception all alone, chewing a gum and blowing it as usual.“Hey Darlene, long time? How have you been?”She's grinning from ear to ear.“I'm fine Claire. Is Mr Martins in?”I reply and ask, trying to avoid more questions.“George Martins? Your boyfriend? I tho
*CURRENT DAY*“Hello, Jayson.”I whisper over the phone, my hands griping the device tightly as if my whole life depends on it. My hands are sweaty and the damn phone is about to fall down anytime soon. Why are all these harmful weapons aimed at me?“Hey Darlene, what a pleasure?”He says tiredly from the other side.I understand he's relaxing today being a Sunday.“Jayson... I've been arrested. I'm in police custody. I... ”“What? Why? Where?”He cuts me short and I can hear him panting at the other side.“Eastend police station.”I manage to say before the phone is roughly grabbed out of my grip.I look up and my eyes meet the cop's red ones as he taps the end call button. The cuffs are slipped back into my hands and I'm left all alone in the dimly lit room, helplessly praying for a miracle.I'v
There's no way I'll spend a night in a police cell and get a pint of sleep. I turn and toss in the cold floor, wondering how I'll get myself out of this mess.As I struggle to catch some sleep, my mind goes back to three years ago when I found out George was nothing but a pathetic cheat...a liar!******THREE YEARS AGO*Today is Friday. It's Kate's bridal shower. It's happening in a house in one of the leafy suburbs. Kate has already confided into me that it's the house her wealthy hubby bought for her and they literally live together waiting for their wedding which will take place tomorrow. My ever understanding boss has allowed me to take the afternoon off to go and prepare for the party which will take place later in the evening.Kate being my best friend, I have to be there for her...it's just unfortunate that she didn't choose me to be her best maid due to reasons best known to herself.
I wake up with a start. It's already daytime and light is flooding the whole room. I yawn and stretch then sit up on the bed. I look around and I'm surprised to find myself on my bed in my house.A lot of thoughts crisscross my mind but I can't even place a finger on how I arrived in my house.Shit! My phone is just beside me on the bed therefore I decide to pick it up to call Kate and know who brought me home.I dial her number and before it connects, I happen to get a glimpse of the time and I'm surprised to find out it's already Saturday 3pm.Oh my God!I gasp and panic.Today is Kate's wedding!Oh my!She'll be mad at me for missing her wedding! Her call goes direct to voicemail and upon trying again and again, she's unreachable. No missed calls nor text messages from her.Th
I'm locked up in a dark room when I finally come around. I'm still in cuffs and the cold floor ain't giving me any peace. I'm shivering to the core and I'm afraid I'll catch a cold or something worse. So these people decided to dump me in a cell instead of a hospital?Anyway, what rights does a common criminal like myself have?I hear some murmuring outside but I can't see anyone.I hear the clicking of a lock and the door is suddenly opened. The same middle aged female cop is here, smiling as usual.“Darlene, we've been instructed to transfer you to a remand awaiting your appeal day.”“Remand? Appeal?”I ask astonished.“Don't you want to appeal? Don't you want justice to be done?”She questions still smiling.“I'd love to but...”I trail in my own voice.“Let's move. You'll be presented in court
It's about three months since I took over this branch as the manager.Life has been good and I'm not complaining. It's also over four months since that lame excuse of a man eloped with my bitch of a best friend. To say I've moved on will be pure lying but to be sincere, I'm struggling to.The intercom on my table buzzes as I get myself engrossed in thoughts.I tap on the button and the receptionist's voice comes through.“Good afternoon madam.”“Good afternoon Daisy, can I help you.”I ask in my bored tone.“Not really madam, but there's a guy here who wants to see you.”She says.“Does he have an appointment?”I ask.“He doesn't but he says it's urgent and crucial.”“It's okay, let him in.”Who might be this guy who insists to see me?I can't stop asking my
