LOGIN"Miss Nadine.... What are you doing now?"
Nadine still sits in her chair thinking about what we should do to confront Adrian for cancelling their wedding.
"Anna, can you help me?"
Anna looks at her boss with confusion. This is the first time she has heard Nadine wants some help from her.
Usually she will say,
'I can handle it' or 'I'll do it myself'.
She didn't get any response from Anna. Nadine looked at her again and called her name several times.
"Anna..."
Anna came to her senses and began to focus on Nadine's order.
"Did I say something wrong?"
Anna begin to get confused again.
"Wrong? Huh? There is no such word in your dictionary."
Didn't realize that she said it out of loud. She gasped and immediately closed her mouth. Nadine just chuckled and then gave her a warm smile.
"Ha ha... Then let me add that word to my dictionary today."
Anna feels a little bit embarrassed about her words. A girl who's 8 years younger than her is teasing her now. Usually she likes to boss around and never make a joke at anybody. Never give her employees a warm smile and never reply to their greeting whenever they pass her at the office. Even when she meets her client or her ex-lover.
She will only smile when her father compliments her job, which is so rare to be seen. And the last time she saw her smile was when she was planning her wedding with Adrian. She looked happy and content even though it was just a forced wedding for Adrian. She smiles a lot after she meets Adrian and becomes obsessed with him. That was the beginning of her wicked plan for winning him and getting him to marry her.
"Sorry... I didn't mean to mock you. It's just rare to see your smile."
Nadine seemed to be thinking about what Anna had said. And begin to smile again.
"Did I? Then I'll smile more from now on."
Anna was shocked again by Nadine's words. Her cute face looks in trouble right now.
"Am I fired?"
Nadine gives a puzzled look and when she realizes something, she begins to laugh again.
"You're the second person who asked me that question. Ha ha ha.."
Anna is still confused about that answer.
"Don't worry, I'm not gonna fire you if you help me."
Anna nodded her head.
"Anna, don't prepare the contract. I still want to cancel the wedding. Help me to clear my schedule, I'm gonna meet Adrian."
Anna wants to refuse her idea when she remembers what her father did to her before. But Nadine gave her a sweet smile again.
"Don't worry... Just stay here until I call you. And about my father...."
Nadine is still thinking about how to tame her father.
"He will be fine. He's just mad because we've lost and the one who beat us is a small resort like Miller. If I can bring him a good deal, he will be fine."
Anna still wants to refuse Nadine's idea. But when she looks at Nadine, she is confident she can't reject her.
"Okay... Just make sure you can finish that before eight o'clock tonight because Mr. Henry wants to process it tonight."
This is the first time Nadine feels so glad that she feels like jumping over.
"You are the best Ann!!! I love you cutie!!"
Anna was just dumbfounded by Nadine's hug and word.
"Since when have you become a huggy person?"
Nadine just tightened her hug and made her tiny figure sink at Nadine's tall figure.
"Ooh... You cutie pie."
Anna feels annoyed now. She doesn't like it if someone calls her cute because it makes her feel so tiny.
"Stop calling me cutie. Or I'll tell your father about your stupid plan."
Nadine releases her hug from Anna. And made an apologetic face.
"But you are cute."
Anna gave her a heavy sigh.
"Are you sick or something? You're weird from this morning."
Nadine already reaches the door but she turns her head and gives Anna a big smile.
"Just consider that I've been reborn again as a new person."
Anna chuckled and gave her reply that made Nadine laugh harder.
"Then I'll note that you've gone insane."
Nadine leaves her father's office. She greets everyone and smiles at them. In her previous life she never did that. She thinks that they're just like air.
When her husband treats her like that, she feels so miserable. Even a little snicker from her husband for mocking her makes her feel she exists in front of him.
Her husband's scandal with many women makes people talk behind her back. They assume that she deserves that because she is never good to people and likes to ruin people's lives.
So she wants to treat other people the way she wants to be treated. Her drastic change made people in her office look confused. They just nervously greet her back.
"What is wrong with her suddenly? Maybe because of her wedding?"
Nadine just ignores that. And like her father said.
"Just stick to your plan, Nadine."
At the front gate Jim was already waiting for her.
"Jim... Please send me to Miller's mansion."
Jim looked so tense that he blurted out a word.
"Miss Nadine, you don't have to be so polite to me... It scares me."
Nadine laughs again. She realizes now that in the past she was a cold hearted person.
"Then prepare yourself. I'll be more polite from now on."
Jim just let out a sigh again. Hoping that's not a temporary kindness from his young miss.
They arrived at Miller's mansion 20 minutes later. When Nadine wants to get off she sees something that will burn her jealousy, like in the past.
"Oh... Olivia is here too."
Jim looked so nervous seeing the view in front of him.
"Hmm... Miss Nadine should go back to the office."
Nadine just gave Jim a small smile.
"No... I came here not to separate them. I wanna get them back together as lover again."
"Huh? Miss.... A... Are..."
Nadine chuckled when seeing Jim hanging his mouth open.
"Close your mouth Jim."
Nadine comes to look again at that ex-couple. A sad gaze still lingering in her eyes, but she just decided to let Adrian go.
Adrian's eyes look warm when he is around Olivia. He looks frustrated but still so gentle with her. So different when she met him at her office today. Suddenly a stinging feeling hit her, not knowing if it was from her small cut or from her broken heart.
"They look like they suit each other, right?"
Jim didn't have the guts to answer her question and just remained silent. True, they look so good together. But his young miss doesn't look ugly either with him, on the contrary, she is too good for him.
"You look good too, Miss."
Nadine gave him a small smile.
"You flatter me Jim. But I've heard this word somewhere. If you try to ruin other relationship, someday my relationship will be ruined in the same way."
Jim looked a bit shocked by Nadine's statement. He gathered his courage and gave Nadine a question.
"Miss Nadine. Are you sure this is okay?"
Nadine didn't answer his question because, honestly, this was not okay with her.
Not taking a long time, Olivia leaves that place. And then Nadine comes to approach Adrian as if nothing happened before.
Adrian looked a little bit shocked to see Nadine.
"Hello Adrian? Can we talk a little bit?"
"You only have three months to prove yourself on that project."The words were still ringing in Adrian's ears when he stepped into Henry's office to report the deal."Alex is in," Adrian said. "But he wants a fully operational building ecosystem within ninety days."Henry leaned back, something close to approval flickering across his cold eyes. "Congratulations. You tamed a predator my own teams couldn't touch." He gestured toward the door, where Mr. Davis already waited. "Prepare your infrastructure immediately. If you need contractors or architects, Davis has the best archives in the industry."Before Adrian could leave, Henry's tone sharpened. "Don't let this victory make you soft, son-in-law. Case 2 is still bleeding, and I expect a resolution before the month is out.""I won't slack off, Father." Adrian gave a firm nod and left. The office hours bled into the late evening. Nadine, delayed by a last-minute meeting, walked the empty executive hallway and slowed outside Adrian's d
"Focus on the contract, sir. Let's not give him an inch," Davis murmured, falling into step beside Adrian as they crossed the lobby of the downtown steakhouse. Adrian didn't answer. He'd rehearsed this pitch a dozen times on the drive over, and none of the versions had felt like enough. The private room of that high-end restaurant reeked of expensive leather and corporate ambition. Alex Barrett leaned back in his chair, took a sip of his afternoon tea, his suit jacket unbuttoned, watching Adrian approach with lazy amusement."You're late, Adrian." Alex's voice dripped with effortless arrogance.Adrian pulled out the opposite chair and sat without a word, his jaw locked tight, and set a blue folder on the table. "I'm here for the joint venture, not to socialize."Alex chuckled, resting his elbows on the polished wood. "Straight to business. I respect that.""Let's skip the small talk, Barrett. We're here for the Big Step project. Sign the cooperation papers for the mountain develop
Nadine sat behind her immaculate mahogany desk in her high-rise office, her eyes scanning the quarterly ledgers. Her phone chimed sharply against the polished wood.Nadine flinched, her heart hammering against her ribs with cold panic. Trouble. She snatched up the screen, bracing for a disaster alert about Case 1.Instead, a simple, unadorned message stared back at her: I got the deal.A breathless squeal slipped past her lips before she could catch it. The sudden, uncharacteristic sound made Anna flinch violently, dropping a red correction pen onto the audit papers."Miss Nadine?" Anna adjusted her glasses, staring in utter bewilderment.Nadine cleared her throat and typed back. Congratulations. I know you can do it. Report to Father immediately. Almost instantly, his reply lit up the screen: Thank you. I'm on my way to the office.Nadine stared at the glowing screen, warmth melting the ice around her heart. In their previous life, her phone had been a graveyard of unread messa
"Alex Barrett wants in on the presentation."Andrew's voice crackled over the line. "His team spent the afternoon hounding the owners of the Grove and the Dairy. They refused to take 'no' for an answer."Adrian adjusted his glasses, his jaw tightening as the shadow competition crept over the mountain. "And you're letting him join?""It's only fair to hear both proposals side-by-side," Andrew replied with a low, testing growl. "Tomorrow morning, 9 AM, at the timber mill. Don't be late, Adrian."Morning mist still clung to the peaks when Adrian and Mr. Davis arrived at the Whitfield farm. Adrian knew the land was tied to Barrett Corp, but he needed to see the enemy's footprints himself. Mr. Davis stood silently beside him, silver-rimmed spectacles catching the early light."Mr. Whitfield, I'm not here to renegotiate," Adrian began, extending a hand to the weathered farmer. "I just want to understand why you chose Alex's retail logistics over our eco-resort."The farmer looked at his
"So, Miss Angel's name is Olie?"Nadine stepped through the heavy front doors of the Merrick Estate, still turning over the collision of Alex and Olivia in her mind. The foyer was dim.Adrian arrived almost the same moment she did. They met at the front door."You're late, Nadine," Adrian said, his low baritone cutting through the silence of the hall. "A business meeting ran long, and I lost track of the hour," she replied, firm and practiced. Adrian's gaze dropped to the grease-stained parchment bag clutched tightly in her hand. "Why did you buy that?" Adrian asked, his tone sliding into a dangerous, suspicious register. "That's the signature snack from the East District market stall." He stepped closer, his broad frame casting a shadow over her as he searched her face for a lie.Nadine's heart skipped. She looked at her husband and saw a man who still, underneath it, viewed her as the enemy. "I was passing through the district and felt a craving," she lied, her voice softer than
Miss Angel. The name kept surfacing in Nadine's mind like a stone she couldn't stop turning over, even as the city lights blurred past the sedan's windows and Jim steered them toward Olivia's home.Where did I hear that name…"Nadine?" Olivia's soft voice broke through the silence. Nadine turned from the window, her expression smoothing. "I'm sorry, Olie. I was lost in my own thoughts for a moment.""Who was that man in the café, Nadine?" Olivia asked, her clear brown eyes searching for answers. "He seemed so… intense."She tapped her chin, thinking it over. "And energetic." A giggle escaped her. "You should have seen how messy he was."The sound of it, light, unguarded, faintly delighted, caught Nadine off guard.Don't laugh about him like that, Olie. Don't talk about him so fondly.Nadine's resolve hardened all over again.I won't let that light laugh turn into a mesmerized gaze, or worse, into tragedy for the Angel of these Starry Skies."An old friend from high school," Nadine s
"Miss... We have arrived." Her driver's voice makes her wake from her past life memory. "Oh... Thank you Jim."His driver looked so shocked and gave her a question that would make Nadine laugh very hard. "Miss?" Nadine stopped her hand from opening the door. "Yes Jim, does it matter?" Jim loo
"Whaaaat!!!" In disbelief, she checked her phone again. Still not satisfied with that. She checked the message on her phone. "God... This must be a joke!" She ran to her door and went around her big house. Every time she meets her housekeeper she will get the same answer. "Are you sure?"
"Sorry... I still can't help you to get out of that jerk's mansion."Her red burnt cheek looked so painful. But she was still smiling sweetly at him. "My husband's house, Adi.."He suddenly felt a little bit relaxed hearing that name coming from her."Adrian... Don't call me that."That woman stil
"Yes father... Yes... I still need to recover."Her father continuously talked and ranting. She can barely hear what he says. Her body still hurts everywhere but what hurts her most is her loneliness. Her father's shout made her head spin again. "Father....."She tries to make her father stop talk
