Chapter five

After three days, thugs came into our compound caring stick as weapon, they tried to past eviction notice on the door of the tenant, they proceeded to throw away my loads and belongings and started beating me with the sticks in their hands, thank God that Destiny isn't around that day.

 I cried and asked for help but my cries we're wasted because none of the other tenants were around because it was on Saturday. God used the policemen as my helper that day, one of the policemen in our area was passing by and came to my rescue that day. 

"Who sent you to remove this woman's loads?" asked the policeman.  

"We are sent by the lawyer, he told us that this lady has been sent away but she refused to leave" reply by the leaders of the thugs. 

The policeman was so angry and requested for the lawyer including the landlord's children and the matter was settled. But I wasn't feeling okay due to the beating by the thugs, I was quickly rushed to the hospital.

 I stayed there for six days before I was finally discharged by landlords children. landlords children give me some money and foodstuffs as gift. I don't have capacity to do any strength work again, due to the beating by the thugs . 

I only use to go to school during the day and come back home to rest at evening. Destiny is the one taking care of other works, she help the neighbour to do there homework, like sweeping, washing of cloth etc. 

Destiny is now done with her senior secondary school education, she was preparing for final year examination so they went on a long holiday. I am so worried a lot, thinking on how to get money for my daughter, to be able to participate in the exam. So I am struggling to work despite how weak I am, we are able to get little money with this. I paid the examination fee before the school resumed. 

The day school resume, destiny was all dressed up ready to leave for school. I advise her to study well because the examination is about to start and I wish her success in the exam. 

The final year Examination was written, there was a lot of excitement and jubilation in the school premises as final year students were happy and jubilating, I gave thanks to God that day was a memorable me. Tears started dropping from my eyes. The student removed their shirt and blouses to reveal the white shirt which they had written on. Some of the students poured water on others to show how happier they are, that day was full of fun.  

Two weeks after the vacation, it was announced in the school that there would be a debate competition within schools from other states. I was so surprised to see the principal come to our house, he told Destiny to prepare for the debate because she would be among the representatives of the state. Immediately after the principal had left, I asked her to stop what she was doing and to prepare for the competition. 

She has practiced how to speak with calmness and confidence several times in the mirror. She began to watch movies about debate to learn how they spoke, she did this for several days before the competition came. Destiny went to meet her English teacher at home to test her competency and to fix her mistakes. 

When she got there, her English teacher was busy doing house work so she joined her to make it fast. She asks her to begin her debate after they have done the house work and made her children sleep.then she began, the teacher asked her to hold on, she got a pen and papers and set the timer on her wristwatch. 

Destiny began with the introduction and then gave her speech and ended. Her English teacher was very impressed with her delivery but because she was taking her time to express herself, she spoke slower and exceeded the time by five minutes. She taught her how to speak faster while maintaining a tempo and began to hear and understand.
