LOGINDaphne's POV
She told me he had pushed her off a cruise ship after a successful operation.
She made it clear that he was in his senses when he did it.
He must have been blinded by his greed for money.
Did he even think twice that it was his wife?
He just---
It's really a mean thing to be selfish, I think he really deserves death.
Yes he does, and I will be the poison chalice to fulfill that.
He's a lunatic who can't control his lust.
If he couldn't control his desires now, it means they were other women in his life after his wife.
Too bad for him because she survived.
"What are you doing Mr. Alex?" I called his attention as I noticed his lips were drawing closer to mine.
He pulled back immediately and began coughing insincerely.
He let go of my waist and pushed me off from himself.
"Do not do that again" he menaced and pulled his seat backward.
I collected some strands of hair from my face and directed it behind my head to rest at my back.
I heaved a sigh of relief and went back to sit on my chair.
He picked the fork next to his plate and began eating the noodles rapidly.
I doubt if he has eaten a good meal in a while. I wasn't bother though.
We both seem to be avoiding each other's secret gaze, pretending as if nothing had transpired just now.
My intentions seemed to have drastically change from preserving his life for a while.
To be honest, I don't really know if it's because I suspected other women in his life or I was angry of what he did to his wife?
I was trying my best to avoid eye contact with him.
"I know this is all hard for you. The messed up apartment is a lot to take in. But I promise you, I'll send in a cleaner to tidy it later on" he spoke calmly.
Why is he suddenly being polite?
He might try to hide the demon that he is, but I already know what he's hiding beneath his shell.
I'll make sure to pay attention to his secret activities, now that I'm here.
"I'm sorry for entering into your room unnoticed" the words slipped out of my mouth. I never meant to say those words. I just did to break the lasting silence.
"It's probably not your fault, you were only concerned about me. Thank you for being concerned." he replied boldly with gratitude and continued looking into his plate.
I began breathing calmly. Because he seemed to be nice all of a sudden.
And also his strict look didn't appear that way anymore.
I wasn't surprise anyway. Mafias sure have a way of having mood swings.
They could pretend just to get you in their web.
I took out my plates and went to the kitchen to put them there.
"Phew!" I heaved a sigh of relief as I was satisfied with the meal.
Gosh! I seriously need to get my weapons in here.
I've got a lot of hit jobs to do this week.
I paced out of the kitchen and then up the stairs.
I spotted Alex at the bar drinking on my way up.
He was drinking booze and seemed to be lost in it.
I moved further and appeared on the hallway.
While I was going into my room, I remembered that Tiana had instructed me to retrieve a file for her.
The file she spoke about has to deal with transfer of property to her.
She said Alex hides it in impossible locations.
I wonder how she expects me to retrieve such a hidden file?
Do she expect me to tear the place apart to find it?
However, he was currently drinking and from the looks of it, he would be drunk. That simply means, he wouldn't be back any moment.
He might likely just fall asleep in the living room.
I tossed myself into his room at once to see if I could get the file at this moment of opportunity.
It would be easier to get it now.
His room was large and I almost got confused on where to begin my search from.
"Hmm!" I sighed and started from the drawer that stood beside the bed.
There was nothing of such inside. Just a bunch of p**n magazines and a gun.
I pulled out the bed covers and lifted the bed from it's frame.
They was a safe there. It was coded and required a password to open it.
I rolled my eyes and thought all the valuable information lied in there.
Rich people are all the same; they bury themselves in the luxury and forget about those who have helped them.
I dropped the bed back on it's frame and adjusted the covers.
I decided to check out other stuffs in the fancy room.
His clothes were just everywhere and dirty too.
There smell like shit.
I took a walk to his wardrobe and got it open.
His clothes were numerous in his closet.
Beneath his clothes was another deck with shoes and a box.
I opened the box and found drugs in it. There were also a drugs inside.
I put back the box in it's place and closed the closet's door.
Moving on, I was leaving the room.
But then, he opened the door unexpectedly.
I froze in shock while he tottered in.
He slammed the door behind him and moved forward.
"You again!" he pointed at me with a finger that kept shaking.
"What are you doing here huh---You just can't stop chasing after me can you?" he began stuttering which gave me the impression that he was probably drunk.
I was walking out, but then his hand grabbed my arm.
"Where do you think you're going huh?" he questioned, his voice low and cracky. His eyes wide open as though he was confronting a ghost.
"What did you take from my room?" he asked me.
"What are you talking about?" I got confused with his approach and have to pull my arm from his hold.
"You're a---thief aren't you?" he stuttered but wasn't really looking at me.
"I will---" those were his last words before collapsing on the floor.
He is really a headache isn't he?
I walked back to his drawer and took out his gun.
Returning back to where he laid on the floor, I cracked the gun and pointed it at his head.
As soon as I kill him, I would get paid handsomely by my mistress Tiana.
I can finally claim my son Nathan from that lunatic Drake.
I would be with my son again.
How I've longed to have him in my arms again.
It's been awhile since I've seen him. Three months to be exact.
I sniffed in and tightened my grip upon the gun, ready to kill a hit.
ALEX'S POVThe house was quiet when I walked in. I found Daphne in the kitchen, her back to me, phone pressed against her ear. Her voice was low, urgent."—can't keep doing this. You need to tell me the truth. I deserve to know what's really going on." She whispered to the person at the other end of the call.It was her business and I had no right to butt in but I had this sickening feeling in my guts that it had to do with me.Trust me, my intuitions never lie.She must have heard my footsteps because she spun around, her eyes going wide and she looked guilty."I have to go," she said quickly and ended the call then she tucked the phone into her pocket."Why do you look scared?" I asked, while loosening my tie."I don't—I'm not—" She began to stutter which heightened my suspicions. Daphne never stuttered. "You're home early.""Who was that?""No one,” She had this fake smile plastered on hrt facr. “It was just a friend who you know was checking in. Why?"I wanted to push, but I didn'
ALEX'S POVThe moment I was sure that Daphne was gone after she'd closed the door, I grabbed my phone and dialed Levi.I'd sent him on an errand and he wasn't supposed to be back nor was I supposed to call until an hour later, but this was injury time and I couldn't stall for long. He picked up on the second ring. "Boss?""Leave whatever you're doing and go over to Lindsay's house, now.” "Why? What's going on?" He inquired."Lindsay didn't show up for work. No call, no text, nothing. That's not like her." I replied. I feel like something has happened to her. There was a pause. Levi knew what I wasn't telling him. People who disappeared without a trace—if they were related to me were usually already dead."I'm on it," he said, and the line went dead.I stood up and started pacing. The death threat email was still open on my laptop, mocking me while there was nothing I could do. I had tried to trace it using every program that my tech guy Marcus had provided me with but I met a wall.
Alex's PovAs a man who studied people carefully before letting them anywhere near me, I could tell that Daphne was lying through her teeth. How did I know that?If she was being dishonest, she'd always stutter and would find it very hard to always maintain eye contact, so ....when she said that she didn't hear shit, I knew she was lying.“What are you doing here?” I demanded and she held up a food bag to my face.“I brought you breakfast.” She replied.“Why?”“The driver wasn't home so I decided to bring it to you, myself.” Daphne replied.“My apologies if I offended you in any way.”“That's not an excuse for you to show up at my office unannounced,” I retorted. “You could have waited for him to return.”“The food would be cold and it would be way past breakfast time by the time he'd return.” Classic Daphne always had an answer for whatever question you threw at her. Intriguing if I may say so myself.I walked back to my desk, took a seat and beckoned her to step forward which she d
Daphne's POV The moment the front door closed, I let out a deep breath. For a second there, I thought Alex was going to remember what had happened last night. “You really have to be careful,” I said to myself as I took my sit to eat breakfast. He'd not even bothered to even stick around to eat the meal I'd taken time to pre—The abrupt ring of my phone cut off my tirade of thoughts. One look at the screen and my entire mood and morning was ruined. Tiana was calling, why?Preparing myself for her tongue-lashing, I picked up the phone, tucking it between my chin and shoulder as I packaged Alex's food.“Why did it take you so long before you answered my call?” Tiana demanded in her annoying birdlike voice that itches one part of my brain.“Good morning Miss Tiana,” I greeted. “I was busy with breakfast.”“Breakfast?” She asked.“Did you make breakfast for Alex or it's for yourself?” I'd be stupid if I told her I'd made breakfast for Alex.If she had her way, she'd slap me through the p
Alex's PovDrinking yourself to stupor the night before work was definitely a bad idea.I sat up in bed, holding my head in my hand like Uefa had decided to have their matches in my head.Hold up, I pushed the covers back and I stared down at my half naked self.Daphne, that lady had guts, I had to give her that. She was the only one who could do something like that. At least she had the decency not to take off my trousers. The door creaked open and Daphne poked her head into the room.“Good morning Mr. Alex, may I come in?” She asked.“You're halfway in,” I muttered while pressing my fingers to my temple.“What do you want so early in the morning?”She did come in, in her hand was a tray with a plate that was covered which she set on the bedside drawer. "How do you feel?""Why do you care?" The headache seemed to increase with every word I uttered.“You drank yourself to stupor last night so I brought you this.” She uncovered what she had in the tray and the foul smell of garlic , or
