Kiera

I squeezed my eyes shut, bracing for the end, as the cold edge of the steel touched my skin, drawing a thin line of blood.

The cold steel bit into my skin. A bead of blood welled up, hot and stinging and I squeezed my eyes shut, my breath hitching in my chest, waiting for the final, severing blow.

But It never came.

Instead, there was a sound like a thunderclap, a sickening crunch of bone, followed by a scream that wasn't mine.

I opened my eyes, gasping for air, waiting to see the new met

Kiera PovThat night, after Seline’s attack and Alistair’s promise to send a warrior to help me train, I had a weird dream that hit me like a physical blow.I was standing in a thick, suffocating mist, the air freezing cold against my skin. And In the center of the void… was a woman I had never seen before.I was sure that I had never met her before, yet I had a weird certainty that I KNEW her somehow. It was almost like seeing a family member you hadn’t seen in a long time even though I knew that we hadnt ever met before. Then to make matters worse…She was standing haunting, familiar eyes stood weeping, her hands clutching at her chest as she cried out a single name into the dark: "Alistair..." I could feel that her sorrow was so heavy, so agonizingly raw, that it felt like it was tearing through my own chest. And the more she cried, the more my pain grew until suddenly--I bolted upright, gasping for air, with sweat clinging to my skin. My heart hammered against my ribs like a tra

KieraThe sound of Alistair pulling his sword was like a screeching alarm in the room. Before I could even process what was happening, he lunged. He didn't even yell; he just went straight for Seline’s throat.I gasped, stumbling back. "Alistair, wait!"Seline screamed, a high, panicked sound, and scrambled backward. She was fast, way faster than a werewolf, and yet she barely dodged him. His blade sliced deep into the velvet of her couch, sending stuffing flying everywhere. He didn't stop. He turned, his face twisted in a look of pure, cold rage, and swung again. Seline was tripping over her robes, sobbing, crawling toward the corner of the room."Alistair, no! Please!" she shrieked, backing into the stone wall. "I'm sorry! I won't do it again!"He raised the sword, his knuckles white, ready to finish it. He wasn't playing. He was actually going to kill her.I didn't even think in that moment, I just moved. I lunged forward and grabbed his arm. His muscles were like iron, and he was

He moved in front of me like a blur, or a shadow detaching itself from the night. He grabbed the masked attacker by the throat and slammed him against the practice post with enough force that the wood splintered. The attacker’s blade clattered to the ground."How dare you touch her?!" Alistair’s voice was a low, guttural growl that made the very air vibrate. He didn't wait for a response or waste an more tim

Kiera povThe feeling of being watched didn't go away. Even after I returned to my room and locked the door, I felt like eyes were boring into my back. But that wasn’t even why I couldn't sleep. Elara had told me that the she overheard that the nobles had begun planning the trials so I had sent her to spy on them and was now waiting for her reply.I now was pacing back and forth in my room, the floorboards groaning under my boots. Every time I looked at the walls, I felt like they were closing in. I had barely rested, and my head was pounding. Finally, the door burst open. And Elara stood there, with her chest heaving, looking like she’d just run a marathon. Her face was ashen."They just posted the schedule," she blurted out, gripping the doorframe. "The first trial start next week. And Luna Kiera… it’s combat. It’s physical combat against the other Lycanwomen."I froze mid-step. The air seemed to leave the room. "Combat? You mean training?" I whispered"No," Elara said, her eyes wi

Kiera’s povSusan and I spent the next two days buried in the palace archives. Elara had sneaked us in, her hands shaking the whole time, terrified of what would happen if we were caught. But I didn't care about being caught. I cared about staying alive. What we found about the women who participated in the last trials made my blood run cold."Look at this," Susan whispered, pointing to a dusty ledger from fifty years ago. "Another one. 'Lady Isolde, died during trial phase three. Cause: Accident.' And here, thirty years ago. 'Lady Mara, died during phase two. Cause: Drowning.'"I scanned the pages. There were names, dates, and causes of death that were clearly lies. It wasn't just a competition; it was a graveyard. "There are no investigations," I said, my voice tight. "No one ever gets charged. It’s like they just wipe the slate clean and start again with a fresh batch of girls.""It’s not just an accident," Susan muttered, looking pale. "It’s murder, Kiera. And the court just watch

Rafael’s povThe gold Alistair had given us was sitting in the vault, the new territories were under my name, and the pack was supposedly under my complete control. I had everything I had planned and plotted for, everything I had wanted when I decided to push Kiera aside. So why did I feel like I’d been robbed?I paced the length of my office, the luxury of the room feeling more like a cage than a throne. I should have been celebrating, but instead, I was staring at a stack of reports that made no sense."You’re brooding again," a voice drawled from the doorway.I looked up to see Alice lounging against the frame, wearing a silk robe that cost more than a month’s worth of pack supplies. She looked bored. She always looked bored."I’m working, Alice," I snapped. "Something you wouldn't understand."She rolled her eyes and walked over, pouring herself a drink from my decanter. "Working? You’re staring at papers. Since when does the Alpha do paperwork? Isn’t that what you have subordina
