Michal’s POV

It’s just past noon when I set up the blanket near the waterline, the edge tucked under a sloping tree that offers enough shade to keep her from overheating.

The sun filters through the branches above in streaks of gold, painting the rippling surface of the lake with its rays. The kind of scene that belongs in a damn painting. If we weren’t who we are.

If the world hadn’t nearly blown apart just days ago.

Sabrina walks over slowly, one hand resting on the little curve of her belly like she’s cradling it. Her movements are cautious, careful.

She’s been sick all morning, and I know every step costs her energy. But her expression is soft, relaxed even, as she looks out over the water.

The breeze pulls at the edges of her flannel shirt—mine, technically—and carries the scent of pine and the distant hint of wildflowers.

“You really dragged me out here with the promise of soup?” she asks, eyebrow raised.

“It’s not just any soup,” I say, pulling the thermos

  • Craving My Mafia Obsession    Chapter 73

Sabrina’s POV The morning of the gender appointment arrives quicker than I could imagine. It’s strangely quiet at the mansion today. The kind of quiet that feels pregnant with meaning no pun intended. The air outside the windows is warm and still, sunlight painting soft stripes through the sheer white curtains draped across the mansion’s tall windows. Even the usual muffled sounds of Sebastian’s men downstairs are distant today, it’s kind of strange if you ask me. I’m already dressed by the time Michal walks into the bedroom, still towel-drying his hair. He freezes in the doorway, blue eyes sweeping over me. “You’re glowing,” he says, voice still gravelly from sleep. “I’m anxious,” I counter, running a hand over the soft knit of my sweater. It’s pale pink not on purpose. Not really. I just grabbed it without thinking. But now that I see myself in the mirror, I wonder if it’s my subconscious manifesting. Michal steps behind me, sliding his arms around my waist. “Yo

Sabrina POV It’s been a whole week since the lake. A week since the night Michal and I lay beneath the stars, wrapped up in nothing but each other. We came home two days after that, slowly, reluctantly. Our home felt.. loud. Jarring, even. Concrete instead of pine needles under my feet, sirens in place of birdsong, glowing streetlights instead of fireflies. But strangely, I haven’t hated it. Not like I thought I would. Because regardless this is home. Where Sebastian and Shelly live as well and some of the mafia family. I feel different. Not just physically, though that’s true too—my hips ache more now, and my stomach has the faintest curve to it, barely noticeable unless I wear something fitted. But inside? Like I’m slowly becoming the kind of woman I never thought I’d get to be. The kind of woman who’s building something beautiful, something whole. The kind of woman who lets herself hope. I’m curled up on the sectional couch, wearing one of Michal’s black hoodies,

Sabrina’s POV Later That Night The sky is velvet. The kind of dark that isn’t empty, but endless painted with so many stars and lightning bugs. I’ve never seen so many stars, scattered like secrets waiting to be whispered. There’s no city glow to mute them out here. They shine so brightly it’s like the whole galaxy came closer just to bear witness. The lake is still now, barely rippling, a smooth pane of silver where the moon brushes its fingertips across the surface. The breeze has quieted to a whisper, brushing lightly through the tall grass and carrying the scent of pine, smoke, and the faint sweetness of the cookies Shelly baked earlier. And so am I. We’re alone again. Shelly and Sebastian turned in about an hour ago, their laughter fading as they disappeared into the cabin, barefoot and sun-drunk. The wooden boards creaked under their weight as they went upstairs, and then the house fell silent. Even the insects seem quieter now, the occasional chirp of

Sabrina’s POV The water laps softly at my ankles like it’s welcoming me home. I stand just at the shoreline, Michal’s hand wrapped securely around mine, the breeze playing with the hem of my shirt and the smell of pine and summer wrapping around us like a familiar blanket. It’s the kind of day that lives in childhood memories—sun-warmed skin, distant laughter, and a stillness that settles deeper than words. I shift my weight and glance down at my belly. The small swell is barely visible beneath my loose cotton tank top, but it feels monumental to me. I rest my free hand there, instinctive now, like I’m protecting something sacred. Because I am. “She’s quiet right now,” I murmured. Michal leans down to press a soft kiss to my hair. “Probably soaking it all in.” “Or judging me for the breakfast I fed her.” “You mean the dry toast and ginger tea?” “And a bite of that blueberry muffin,” I say, a little sheepish. He grins. “You earned it.” I smile, and it surprise

Michal’s POV It’s been maybe an hour since Sabrina drifted off against me, her body curled into mine, her hand resting over the small swell of her belly like she’s cradling a secret. The late morning sun has warmed the blanket beneath us, and the breeze off the lake has gone from crisp to comfortable. I don’t move. I barely breathe. She needs this. I need this. It’s the longest I’ve seen her sleep without jerking awake, thinking her body had failed us again. It hasn’t. It’s holding. She’s holding. And I’ll hold her together until we’re past the storm. The porch door creaks open, cutting through the quiet like a twig snapping underfoot. I glance toward the cabin and see Sebastian stepping onto the steps, arms crossed, his sharp eyes scanning the woods like a man who doesn’t know how to be still. Shelly follows a beat later, barefoot with a towel slung over her shoulder and a woven basket in hand. I don’t have to say anything. They clock the scene—me lying back on th
