Ch. 18

FIONA

“I couldn't believe what I had just heard, was Alpha Sergius trying to play another stupid trick on me.” I stepped back, still trying to let go of his grip. 

“It cannot be possible. You won't come around here and play stupid tricks with me and try to act smart and tell me you are cursed and you can't have an heir. This is not another of your plans, right? Because whatever you do, it won't work on me,” I said to him, finally forcing my hands away from his grip.

I turned around, about to rush off because at this point, I wouldn't want this conversation to prolong in any way or in any matter, but I never expected what he did next. I guess he tried to pull me by my waist and touched my belly.

I almost gasped in shock but immediately pretended I shifted away from him, giving us enough distance that even if he tried to race toward me, I would still be able to avoid his touch faster than expected.

He looked at me like his eyes were about to bulge out. “It can't be,” he said as I looked confused.

“It can't be what? I am going, and I don't think we still have to keep going on with this conversation. I am already tired of talking to you, and I am not going to go with you no matter what you do or what you say.” I said to him angrily and began to race as fast as I could.

“Fiona!” I heard my name from behind. I could tell he was chasing after me, but clearly, my beta had stopped him. 

“Fiona, we have to talk. You have to explain to me what I had just touched.” He said, but I still did not stop till I got into the palace. I closed the door and rested my back gently on it as I breathed out heavily. 

“He almost caught me. He almost caught my lie. He almost found out about the pregnancy, and now he's telling me he's cursed. Does that mean that he can't have an heir and my child is his only heir? If he finds out about this, he will find every way and any way to take that child away from me, and I will not accept that or even allow it to happen.”

One of the maids soon saw me as she was passing and stopped. “Luna, is there any problem? Do you want to get some fresh air?” she said to me as I shrugged.

“No, I don't. I'm fine,” I said to her and faked a smile to reassure her as she nodded and then left. I immediately went back to my chambers and laid on my bed, trying to calm my nerves down, trying to cool down that temper I felt talking to Sergius. 

“I hope we don't get to meet again because I don't even know what to say to him at this point.” 

At that moment, a knock came to my door. My heart almost jumped out of my chest as I tried to calm my nerves before allowing the person in.

“Come in.” The door slowly creaked open, and Alpha Cyprus poked his head in with a smile on his face.

“Can I?” he said. I nodded, and almost immediately, he made his way in, and I saw he was carrying a basket. It had fruits and candies in it.

“I thought you would need this, actually, I was told you would be interested in things like this, and I just want the best for your baby,” he said. I tapped a space beside me as he sat down. 

“Thank you. I thought you wouldn't want to talk to me,” he said as I laughed.

“Alpha Cyprus, why would you always keep thinking such things like I would not want to talk to you? Of course, I will talk to you anytime. Even if I'm not in the mood, I still have to talk to you. You know why? I owe you everything,” I said to him as he nodded. I guess he was already reassured at this point.

“Thank you. I just wanted to stay with you. I kind of got too choked up in my office having to deal with all those paperwork, and then Sergius not still going. It's really frustrating me knowing he's camping around and not even ready to make a move. It's so annoying.” 

He said this as I smiled uncomfortably. What would he say when he finds out that I actually went to see his own brother behind his back?

“I thought you were sleeping,” I said, realizing his brother had told me he was actually sleeping.

“Oh yeah, I was sleeping, and then I kind of couldn't sleep because I knew I had a lot of things to sign, and besides, I wanted to have alone time with you, so I thought getting rid of the jobs that would obstruct me later would give me more chance with you, and I kind of finished on time, so I decided to come and be with you.” 

He said this as I laughed.

“Thank you. Thank you for always coming to be with me, even when I don't deserve your attention. I also felt a bit bored, and that was why I hadn't slept yet,” I said to him.

“Did you go out on a stroll?” he questioned.

“Huh?” I said, puzzled. 

“Your coat. You are putting on a coat, and your room is not cold, which meant you went out, right?” he said. 

I immediately slapped him on the shoulder playfully and smiled before adding a laugh to it to lighten up the awkward atmosphere because actually, I had no response to that.

“I kind of—yes, I wanted to take a stroll, but then I was tired, you know, pregnancy and change of mood. I just didn't want to go anymore,” I said to him and laughed again. 

He laughed with me, and everywhere soon went silent.

“Oh, if you want to take a little fresh air, I can escort you now. I'm actually very much less busy, and we'll be less busy tomorrow. I just want to be with you if that is what I have to do,” he said and then held my hands.

I never wanted to be this way. I never wanted to act like this, hiding things from Cyprus. What would he think of me? He would really see me as a bad person who was worth being chased away from her pack when he finds out. 

“I have something to say to you, and I don't think I can keep it away from you for long.”
