FIONA The splash of cold water jerked me out of my sleep. I should be used to the inhumane way she woke me up, because she always used a bucket of ice water on me every morning, but I still shivered uncontrollably as I sat up on the bed. “Get up, you useless girl,” My mother shouted at me, as I tried to blink water from my eyes. “You are already late for work!” She continued nagging as I tried to put myself back together. “You always go late to work…” I stood up from the bed. “Third count of laziness and I am sure that they will fire you…and you cannot get fired, we need the money…” I slipped my feet into the bathroom slippers that were by the side of the bed. “ Your siblings came home from school, earlier this morning, they said that they were not allowed to enter the school grounds because of lack of school fees.” Hearing those words made me topple over an overflowing bucket of water that caught the water leaking from our rotting ceiling. That was the third strike this week,

SERGIUS I woke up chained to a bed. Again. I violently rattled at the chains and a shaking servant went out to call the healer. The healer unshackled me and I didn’t bother asking why or how. The last two times I had woken up bewildered and they had to explain to me. “This will heal in two hours,” The healer nodded to the bandages. “You are a strong Alpha.” This time I just stood up took the painkillers for the blinding headache and dull ache in my bandaged fingers and went out. I also didn’t bother asking why my hands were wrapped thick with bandages, I knew that I must have beaten someone or something out of rage and I didn’t want to relive it. I didn’t even want to live. Right now, I badly wanted to be a coward, drink my sorrows away, and forget about my impending doom. When I looked out the windows, it was pitch black. I have been knocked out for an entire day, leaving my kingdom without a ruler for a full day. Something that has never occurred since I was coronated. I decided

FIONA I was wobbling in pain when I got home. My mother opened the door for me and she saw my state but could not be bothered, she only told me to quickly bathe and eat so that I could resume my work at 9am. “Mother, I am not going back there again.” I leaned on the wobbly dining table, trying to catch my breath. “Why?’ She snapped, her eyes burning with fire. “Look at the state of your father!” she pointed to his pale body lying discarded on our patched-up sofa. “His condition worsened throughout the night. We will lose him if you continue to be lazy Fiona.” I retrieved the stacks of hundreds and thousands of dollars from my bag and laid them on the table. Her mouth opened in shock. “I don’t have to work for up to six months if we can properly manage this money better. Also, Lisa and Sam can resume school, while Dad can be treated better. Her fingers massaged the crisp dollar bills. “Where did you get this amount of money from?” My mind flashed to the passionate sex from l

FIONA I grunted in pain as my mother roughly pushed me to the center, in front of the eight pairs of judgmental eyes that belonged to our pack’s council. “Here she is,” she spat on my face. “Mother,” I tried to reach out to her but she slapped my hands away. The way she looked down at me in disgust made tears form in my eyes. “So this is the rebellious teenager.” I heard an elder mutter. “Fiona Akida” Thorne’s voice echoed off the vaulted ceiling. “You stand accused of bringing shame upon our pack through unlawful conception outside the sacred mate-bond. How do you answer?” I bowed my head in shame as the rest of the hall erupted in whispers and chatter. How would I explain to them that the Alpha King of the Northern Territories was my fated mate? And that he slept with me at a seedy hotel in our pack slums, and that he rejected me and left me pregnant? Who would believe me? Instead, they would execute me for slander and blasphemy, so I just stared at my dusty feet, tears splashi

SERGIUS Was this what it felt like to be so enraged knowing things were not working out for you? I slammed my hand harshly on the desk, my anger evident on my face as all my pack mates who were standing in a corner shivered in fright while the guards, trying to act all cool, were also scared. Standing in front of me was the fourth wife I had taken just within a few months. Just six months, and I don't even know what is wrong with me. Each time I try, each time I try to find a good way to make them worthy to sleep with me, things keep getting ruined. “What is wrong with you, Ariel? I don’t know what else to do for you. How did you do it? How did you lose such an important pregnancy? That child was supposed to be the heir of this pack. Do you even realize the risk? Do you even realize what you are doing? You are supposed to keep yourself protected and strong. If the maids are too stupid to protect you, then at least you should have some dignity and protect yourself. You have a r

SERGIUS I looked puzzled at what he said. "What do you mean? I need to. I need to beg. Who? Why do I need to even apologize to anybody? I don't owe anyone an apology." I said, puzzled, as he laughed and continued his incantation. This time, he was louder than usual. "You are joking around, huh? You really think this is a joke? This is important. It is important that you do this. You need to do this or else you wouldn't be able to get the good news that is waiting for you." He said as I laughed. "At this point, nothing can be good news to me. Except if you tell me that my heir is going to arrive very soon. That something good is going to come out of everything. One of my wives is in a serious position. She had a miscarriage, and I don't plan on making it happen again. I don't care what the good news is. I need an heir. Do you even know how important it is? As your Alpha, I am commanding you to find a solution." I said angrily as he laughed. "You can't command me here, Alpha. You

FIONA I opened my eyes and looked around me. "Oh, I forgot I was rescued and now I am being treated like a princess. Isn't that so frustrating?" I sat up gently and saw a maid at the corner. She was fast asleep, but I immediately made one more move. She stood up and looked at me with a wide smile on her face. "You are finally awake. Thank goodness. I thought you were slowly falling into another illness. The Alpha is so worried about you." She said as I looked away. "I don't understand. Why am I—why am I falling sick again and again? I don't understand what's wrong with me." I said to her, puzzled, as she looked around even though the room was clearly empty before rushing towards me. She sat beside me and held my hands so gently as she whispered in my ear. "You are pregnant." She said as I laughed. "Oh. Oh. So you just realized. Well, news flash. That is the reason why I was chased out of my Pack. Because I was pregnant, and I couldn't bring the father of my child to the p

SERGIUS I was still puzzled, sitting in my study room alone. It was already midnight, and yet I couldn't find the right place or how to contact her. I pushed her away for no reason, and now she is the only one who can help me, but I don't even know where she stays. I know nothing about her, and she is my mate. The elders must not hear about this because I don't even know how they would react. They've been on my neck for ages, telling me to find my true mate. I found her, and I pushed her away out of bitterness or out of ego, thinking I was better than her and that she wasn't worth my time. Meanwhile, she was worth every minute and every second of my time. I tapped my hands on the desk furiously. "She has to be somewhere. She can't just vanish just like that. She can't. She can't just run away." At that moment, I heard a loud knock on my door. "Okay, can I come in. I have news," he said as I nodded. "Get in, get in," I said. He brought in some files and spread them on my desk. I

YVONNE I never felt this anxious in my life. I waited patiently for him to give me his response. “If I find my true mate, you know what that means, right? You guys are just going to have to respect her because she will become the overruled Luna, and there's nothing you can do to change that.” He said as I slowly let go of him, walking to his front, my hands folded, a fierce frown on my face. “You mean you’re going to push me aside for her? Funny enough, that’s why she doesn’t exist, and that’s why you can’t find her because your greediness is going to show,” I said angrily, walking towards the door as I held onto the handle, about to open it. “Yvonne,” he said, as I smiled. Of course, he wouldn’t let me go without an apology. “What?” I said, annoyed. “Where exactly do you think you’re going without clearing the air? Why do you keep forgetting that I married the four of you because I needed something and none of you gave it to me? If it’s not a miscarriage, it is a fake pregn

Ch. 10

FIONA After Alpha Cyprus had assured me that I could stay and he was ready to accept my pregnancy, even provide everything I need if needed, he’s going to give me a good position where everybody is going to respect me. And he has already made the maids who know about my pregnancy swear to keep it a secret and make it seem as if we had nothing connected, just to protect my dignity. I sat under my bed, so excited as I squealed in happiness. “Oh my God! I feel like I was chased out for a good reason. Because now I finally found the person who wants me for who I am, and I am finally free from my family. They won't be able to follow me anywhere, bother me, or disturb me. Instead, I would be free to do whatever I want, decide whatever I want, do anything I want to do.” I never knew I could feel this excited over such little news. While still being engulfed in my excitement, the door creaked open as a young maid stepped in. She could be clearly around my age, but she seemed so innocent,
