Chapter 8 - Never again

Gamma Dimitri’s POV

I extend my hand to Brooklyn when a growl and the word MINE rings out in the center, I turn my head and watch as Ava stands stiffly and a wide smile curls on her pretty face.  My heart races in my chest as I watch a tall man walk towards her.  I need to leave, allow her to have her moment and the life that the goddess has gifted to her.  I turn and walk through the crowd as everyone is watching the girl that I held in my heart for the last 4 years be swept away by fate.  I step outside and Gamma Gabe calls out my name and waves.  I walked towards him and his hands landed on my shoulders, he has become a good friend, a brother to me really and I know he is only trying to help but right now I need to be alone.  I thank him but I know he needs to go inside and hopefully his night will end much better than mine has.  I walk through the woods heading for our pack house and stick my hands in my pockets, I feel the small box inside and my heart hurts, I shake my head as I pull the box from my pocket and stop myself before I throw it out into the woods, no I’ll keep it, it will remind me never to be stupid again and just wait for my fated, she is the one that deserves this necklace, she is the one that will hold my heart as my Momma told me she would.  I push it back into my pants and continue to walk, my wolf is too silent he is the one that argued with me earlier, telling me I was stupid for doing what the goddess has not blessed, but I know he is right now and my heart is paying the price.

I walk upstairs and remove my suit, placing the tiny box up on a shelf in the back corner of my closet and chuckle, I hope you don’t sit there too long little box.  I pull on a pair of sweatpants and head for the back door, I’ll check on the patrol’s perhaps I’ll run into a rogue or two and get out some of this aggression I feel right now.

I shift into my black wolf and start running, it takes 4 hours to run our borders now, our patrols are large in numbers and constant not only for the rogue wolf that has been sighted but because of the special wolves that lie within them.  Luna Charlie, Nonna Rose, Alpha Abigail, Teresa, Brooklyn and Sofia are all special wolves and have gifts of strength that differ from each one.  Teresa, Brooklyn and Sofia have not come into their power yet, since they’re wolves have not surfaced, but tonight Teresa will shift into her wolf and goddess help us if it is as arrogant as she is.  I can’t help but chuckle at the thought, she will be a force and poor Gamma Gabe, if she is his mate he will need to deal with her antics forever.  My wolf, Maximus cackles in my head, “so will you, she will live in our pack house with us too.”

I shake my head, “you are always the barer of good thoughts Max.”

He howls, “just keeping it real Dimi, but I did tell you she was not ours, that Ava is a nice girl and should have just been a one and done.”

I shake my head at him, “you think they all should be a one and done.”

He snorts, “I am right too, they are not our fated, she will come, you need to be patient, but she will be here and so will you when the time is right.”

I huff and sit back, allowing him to take control and just do a patrol, he is right, I need to be patient, wait until my fate is sealed by what the goddess has blessed me with.  I chuckle, I can still have fun, sow my wild oats and enjoy the company of young she-wolves, just not allow any too close, never again.” 

Alpha Abigail’s voice enters my head, “Gamma Dimitri,” she says softly.

I answer her, “yes, Alpha Abigail, what do you need?”

Her voice stays calm and soft, “are you okay?”

I smile, she is not my Alpha right now but my sister-in-law, she cares and knows how I feel about Ava, “I’m fine, just running a patrol of our borders, you know doing my job.”

“Okay, I’m here for you always, so is your brother, let us know if you have any sightings tonight.” 

I know she is smiling right now, and I also know that Christov has told her to leave me alone, but I’m glad she didn’t listen to him, she has made me smile at least, “thank you, is Gamma Gabe with Teresa?  Has she shifted?”

She sighs, “Teresa is shifting now, we are all waiting.”

I chuckle, “let me know when you find out, I’m praying for him.”

She cackles, “really, I’m sure you are praying she is not his, we will all have to live with her if she is,” then she adds, “I will deny ever saying that to anyone.”

I can’t help the laughter that leave me through our link, “I understand Abi and thank you.”  I cut our mind link as I round our territory.  My brother Christov is lucky to have her as a mate, she is funny and beautiful and that combination is powerful in itself, but she is far more powerful than we ever expected.

I hear a howl in the distance and smile inwardly, she’s shifted now and it’s only a matter of time before we all know if we have a new female Gamma, because if she is I know Gamma Gabe will mark her the second he sees her.   I return to the pack house and feel a little better and pull on my sweatpants.  I’m about to enter when I hear voices behind me and I can’t help but snicker as I listen to her, “my Dad will kill you and me if I don’t return to my own party.”

I hear Gamma Gabe scoff, “he will understand, they all will, if you were their mate they would do the same thing.”

I wait a minute and I hear her moan, than I hear a thud and I spin around and see Gamma Gabe on his naked ass chuckling as he stands up looking into the tree line and her voice calls out, “I’m going back now and if you expect to mark me any time soon, I suggest you follow me.”

I can’t help but laugh out loud at them, he got his fated mate that he has waited for and now will pay dearly.  He turns glaring at me, “what so funny Dimi?”

I shake my head, “nothing brother,” I jut my chin in the direction of the tree line, “you better follow her, or she may get away,” I smile at him.
