The royal transport wasn't a standard wolf pack SUV. It was a sleek, armored dark sedan with tinted bulletproof glass and a custom interior that smelled of expensive leather and polished mahogany.

Leo sat in the leather back seat, entirely absorbed in a high-tech tablet Ethan’s personal guard had handed him upon arrival. His tiny fingers flew across the screen at lightning speed, analyzing the royal estate's network schematics.

"The security encryption on this vehicle is surprisingly outdated," Leo remarked casually from the back, not looking up. "A basic brute-force bypass could crack your door locks in under forty seconds."

Ethan, sitting beside me in the back seat, turned his head slowly to look at the four-year-old. "Kid, that sedan is built with military-grade dwarven-steel plating and anti-magic warding."

"Which is irrelevant if your digital relay runs on an unencrypted sub-frequency," Leo replied primly, pushing his round glasses up his nose. "I have already optimized your firewall. You are welcome."

Ethan blinked, then let out a low, gravelly laugh that echoed in the quiet car. He leaned back against the headrest, tossing me an amused glance. "He's going to run my entire intelligence division by the time he's ten, isn't he?"

"Only if you pay him competitive wages," I said dryly, keeping my eyes fixed on the passing scenery outside.

The foggy, pine-heavy forests of the border lands were giving way to the sprawling, hyper-exclusive estate grounds of the Lycan Royal Keep. Towering stone walls lined with heavy iron gates parted smoothly as the sedan approached, revealing a massive, gothic-style palace surrounded by pristine gardens and heavily armed royal guardians.

This was Ethan’s stronghold. Safe. Impregnable.

The car pulled up to the main stone steps, where a line of armored royal guards instantly snapped into a crisp, synchronized salute.

Ethan stepped out first, extending a hand back to help me down. I ignored his hand, stepping out under my own power and smoothing down my dark rogue jacket. Leo scrambled out after me, clutching his small backpack.

"Welcome to the Keep," Ethan said, standing tall. His aura relaxed slightly now that he was back on his home turf, but the lethal grace in his movement remained. "You and the boy will be staying in the East Wing suites. It is the most fortified section of the castle."

As we walked through the towering double doors of the grand foyer, a tall, elderly wolf in a tailored suit approached with a silver tray. His sharp eyes scanned me and Leo before landing on the King with a deep bow.

"Your Majesty," the steward said smoothly. "We were not expecting guests for the border operation."

"This is Shadow, my head tactical specialist for the Bloodwood audit," Ethan instructed coldly, his tone shifting back to that of absolute ruler. "And her son, Leo. They are under royal protection. Anyone who enters their floor without explicit written permission from me or Shadow will be executed on the spot. Is that clear, Thomas?"

Thomas’s eyebrows twitched slightly in surprise, but he bowed even lower. "Crystal clear, Sire. The East Wing has been prepared."

"Take Leo up to get settled," I told Thomas, turning to my son. I knelt down, looking Leo in the eye. "Stay in the room, keep the door deadbolted, and don't hack into the King's defense grid unless it's an emergency."

"Understood, Mama," Leo said with a solemn nod. "I will restrict my activities to monitoring local police frequencies and reviewing their kitchen inventory."

Once Thomas led Leo up the grand marble staircase, the quiet tension in the foyer doubled.

Ethan turned to me, his amber eyes burning with a sudden, concentrated heat. "Come with me to the war room. We need to review the Bloodwood estate layout before tomorrow night's infiltration."

I followed him down a long, dark corridor lined with historic weapons and royal portraits. The air here was thicker, heavy with the scent of ancient magic and Ethan’s dominant scent—whiskey, amber, and ozone.

He opened a heavy oak door, leading me into a massive room dominated by a glowing digital tactical table showing a three-dimensional holographic map of Alpha Jaxon’s pack territory.

"Jaxon's security layout has changed since you were there," Ethan said, walking around to the other side of the table and leaning his large hands on the edge. "He added an perimeter alarm grid along the western ridge."

I took a step closer to the map, my eyes scanning the blue holographic structures. A cold, cynical smile touched my lips.

"He didn't add that," I said quietly, pointing to a specific junction box near the main mansion. "I designed that layout five years ago. He just copied my old schematics and slapped a new power source on it. Jaxon never had an original tactical thought in his life."

Ethan stayed completely still, his eyes locked on my face rather than the map.

"You built his defense strategy?" Ethan asked, his deep voice carrying a strange edge.

"I built everything that kept his pack alive," I said bitterly, my fingers tracing the digital boundary lines. "I managed his supply chains, drafted his guard rotations, and fixed his economic books. And when he found out I was his fated mate, he realized an Omega strategist was a threat to his reputation. He wanted a pretty, compliant Luna like Clara—not a girl who was smarter than him."

Ethan’s jaw clenched hard, a low, dangerous growl vibrating deep within his chest. The temperature in the war room seemed to plummet as his royal wolf reacted to the mention of my past.

"He was a fool," Ethan growled softly, taking a slow step around the table toward me. "A blind, arrogant fool."

"It doesn't matter," I said, stepping back slightly as he approached. "Tomorrow night, I slip into his private study, extract the financial ledgers that prove his illegal silver smuggling, and plant the digital backdoor for your strike team. Then you strip his title, and I walk away."

Ethan stopped right in front of me, his massive frame towering over mine. He reached out, his long fingers hovering just inches from my jaw, as if he desperately wanted to touch me but was forcing himself to exercise control.

"And what if I don't want you to walk away, Aria?" he whispered, his amber eyes burning into mine with an intensity that made my breath catch in my throat.

My heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped bird. "I don't play royal games, Ethan. I survived one Alpha. I won't be owned by another."

"I don't want to own you," Ethan murmured, his voice husky, dropping to a low, velvet purr. "I want to stand beside you."

Before I could answer, the red emergency light on the war room console began to flash violently, an alarm chiming through the quiet room.

Ethan’s head snapped toward the display.

The screen read: UNAUTHORIZED BORDER CROSSING DETECTED – BLOODWOOD PACK ENFORCERS APPROACHING ROYAL OUTER PERIMETER.

A dark, lethal smirk spread across Ethan’s face as he looked back at me.

"It seems your ex-mate couldn't wait for the summit," Ethan said, his voice laced with cold promise. "Jaxon is already at my gates."

The journey back to the Royal Northern Keep took three days through the howling, snow-choked mountain passes of the Frost Ridge.Unlike our desperate subterranean infiltration into Fortress Kronos, our return was a slow, triumphant march. The twenty-four rescued border civilians were bundled in heavy bear-fur cloaks provided by Captain Kael’s rear guard, riding safely in the supply wagons. At the head of the column walked Ethan and me.The freezing northern wind howled across the white glaciers, biting through leather and iron, but Ethan’s hand wrapped around mine remained as warm as a lit furnace. He walked without his heavy royal mantle, his massive chest visible beneath his battle-torn tunic, his bare skin radiating the soft, golden warmth of his fully awakened Lycan bloodline.Beside us, Leo sat comfortably atop a tactical supply crate inside the lead wagon, wrapped in three layers of wolf-fur blankets, his glowing tablet held in his gloved hands as his small fingers tapped rh

The earth trembled beneath our boots as the subterranean foundation of Fortress Kronos began to implode.Thick columns of black smoke and roaring violet flames erupted into the night sky, tearing through the jagged, obsidian mountain peaks of the Southern Desert. The shockwaves of the dwarven charges detonating deep within the power core shattered the surrounding valley ridge, sending thousands of tons of stone cascading down like a dark, thunderous avalanche.I scrambled out from the drainage outlet at the base of the ridge, pulling Leo up onto the icy stone ledge behind me.My tactical armor was torn, covered in soot, wet mud, and dry blood. My right wrist throbbed with a dull, burning ache, but I barely felt it. I shoved my hair out of my eyes and spun around, staring up at the burning fortress courtyard five hundred yards above us."Ethan!" I screamed into the freezing night wind, my voice raw and desperate. "Ethan!"The comms channel was dead—melted into static by the massive voi

The air in the subterranean extraction chamber detonated into violence. The two Null-Guard captains charged down the iron walkway, their seven-foot-tall frames clad in heavy black void-armor that hummed with dark purple kinetic energy. The twin void-blades mounted to their gauntlets crackled with dark, anti-magic fire, leaving trails of black lightning in the humid air."Kael, get the civilians into the drainage tunnel! Move!" I shouted, dropping low into a tactical crouch as my mind instantly accelerated into combat calculation mode."Understood, Warden!" Kael roared, drawing his broadsword to cover the rear as the freed border wolves began scrambling back into the circular floor grate toward the underground exit shaft. The first Null-Guard captain leaped from the raised walkway, bringing a six-foot double-edged void-blade down toward my head with enough force to split a stone pillar in half.I didn't try to block it.I kicked off the slick stone floor, sliding directly between his o

The subterranean supply tunnel beneath the border ridges was cold, damp, and reeked of ancient rust and stale groundwater. For three miles, we moved in near-total silence through the pitch-black stone shaft, illuminated only by the faint, low-frequency red optical bands built into our tactical helmets. The water ran ankle-deep, splashing softly against our armored boots, carrying the faint, bitter metallic tang of unprocessed silver ore from the abandoned northern mining shafts above.I walked in the lead, my twin dwarven daggers drawn, sweeping the tunnel ahead with cold, methodical focus.Behind me, Ethan moved like a giant shadow—his towering frame taking up half the narrow stone corridor, his royal Lycan aura pulled tightly inward to avoid triggering the southern thermal sensors embedded in the rock walls. Captain Kael followed close behind, carrying our heavy breaching gear, while Leo walked in the center of our formation, his tablet sealed inside a waterproof tactical case mount

  • Crowned in Ash : The Alpha's Ultimate Regret   Chapter 20- The Gathering Storm

The peace was a fragile thing, brittle as winter ice under a heavy boot. For three days, the Royal Keep enjoyed an uncanny, quiet calm. The soot was scrubbed from the Grand Pavilion walls, the broken floor tiles were replaced with polished white marble, and the northern lords had returned to their respective territories under new, strict royal directives.I spent most of my mornings in the High Warden's office on the fifth floor of the Keep—a massive, vaulted room with floor-to-ceiling windows that looked out over the entire snow-draped valley.I leaned over a heavy oak desk covered in digital schematics, supply manifests, and territorial maps of the eastern district. My dark dwarven tactical armor was half-unbuttoned at the collar, my twin blades resting on the edge of the desk beside a half-empty mug of black coffee."The eastern mines are operating at sixty percent capacity, Mama," Leo said, sitting in a velvet armchair near the window with a small tablet balanced on his knees

The mountain fog did not clear; it thickened, settling into the jagged crevasses of Iron-Pass like a heavy, cold shroud. The acrid stench of ozone, burnt alloy, and scorched stone hung thick in the night air, mingling with the bitter, sharp scent of pine from the lower ridges. The ruined courtyard of Outpost Four was quiet now, save for the rhythmic, metallic clinking of Captain Kael and his secondary royal guard detail securing the captured southern equipment.I stood at the edge of the shattered observation balcony, my hands resting lightly against the cold granite railing. My twin dwarven daggers were cleaned, oiled, and securely strapped back into their rib holsters. Below us, the vast expanse of the Southern Obsidian Desert stretched out beneath the bruised crimson sky, an endless ocean of rolling dunes hidden under dark, shifting clouds.A soft, heavy footstep sounded behind me.Ethan walked out onto the balcony, his tall, imposing frame blocking the biting wind. He had rem
