The moment Kieran's feet touched the deck of the rescue boat, something twisted deep in his chest. An inexplicable chill ran down his spine, making every nerve ending scream that something was wrong.

His heart lurched violently, and he spun around with desperate urgency.

But all he could see was that endless stretch of dark, churning water. The ocean looked like a black void, swallowing everything in its path.

His hands gripped the boat's railing until his knuckles turned white. A cold dread settled in his stomach, growing heavier with each passing second.

"No," he whispered to himself. "She's safe. She has to be safe."

But the unease wouldn't leave him. It clawed at his mind like a living thing.

During the chaos of the evacuation, he could have sworn he'd seen a flash of familiar hair. A glimpse of that face he knew better than his own. For just one terrifying moment, he thought he'd seen me in the crowd of panicking passengers.
