Serena's POV

3 days later

The tears came in waves, each one carrying memories I desperately wanted to forget but couldn't escape.

Dad teaching me to ride a bike, his steady hands on my shoulders. "I've got you, sweetheart. I'll never let you fall."

His laugh echoing through our small kitchen as he attempted to flip pancakes, flour somehow ending up in his dark hair.

Now I was about to marry the man who had stolen all of that from me.

I curled into a ball on the bed, my wedding dress, if you could call this mockery a wedding, hanging like a specter in the corner. The white silk seemed to mock me, a symbol of purity and joy when all I felt was darkness and despair.

A soft knock interrupted my spiral of grief.

"Serena?" Alec's voice was gentle through the door. "May I come in?"

I didn't answer, but he entered anyway, his footsteps careful on the hardwood floor. The bed dipped as he sat beside me, maintaining a respectful distance.

  • Curse of the Alpha demon   You killed her father

Ryker's POVThe memory played in my mind like a broken record. The man who had tried to hit on Serena stumbling backward into the shadows behind the mansion, his face a mask of drunken arrogance even as I pinned him against the stone wall."You touched what's mine," I had growled, my hand around his throat."She's just some whore," he'd gasped, his breath reeking of alcohol and stupidity. "What's the big deal?"The rage that had consumed me in that moment was unlike anything I'd felt in years. My wolf had surged forward, demanding blood, demanding justice for the terror I'd seen in Serena's eyes. My claws had extended, pressing against his jugular until I could feel his pulse hammering against the razor-sharp points. One more second. One more ounce of pressure and he would have been nothing more than a memory. But I had stopped. At the last possible moment, reason had prevailed over instinct. Because killing him, would have meant war. And with Serena not yet officially my mate, not y

  • Curse of the Alpha demon   Trip

Serena's POVThe tension in my body was unbearable. I couldn't stand there another second, pretending everything was fine while Ryker looked at me with that cold, dismissive expression. Without waiting for him to say anything else, I turned on my heel and walked toward the exit, my hands shaking with a mixture of anger and residual fear from my encounter with that man.The cool night air hit my face as I stepped outside, but it did nothing to calm the storm raging inside me. I spotted the car waiting in the circular driveway and practically ran toward it, desperate to get away from this place. The driver, opened the door for me without a word. I slid into the backseat, my breathing still uneven as I tried to process everything that had happened."When is Ryker joining us?" I asked as the driver got behind the wheel."Alpha Ryker instructed me to take you home, Miss," he replied, starting the engine. "He said he would follow later."My heart sank. Of course he would stay. Of course he

  • Curse of the Alpha demon   The strange man

Serena's POVThe man eyes gleamed with interest as he leaned closer, his cologne overwhelming in the confined space near the bar. "So, what brings you to our little gathering? I don't think I've seen you at one of these before."I forced a polite smile, taking a small step back to create some distance between us. "I'm here with someone," I said diplomatically, hoping to discourage whatever he was building up to."Ah, but that someone seems to have abandoned you," he said, his gaze roaming over me in a way that made my skin crawl. "A beautiful woman like you shouldn't be left alone at a party like this."His hand moved to rest on the bar beside me, effectively trapping me between his body and the marble surface. I could smell alcohol on his breath now, strong and sharp, and realized he'd had far more to drink than I'd initially thought."I'm perfectly fine on my own, thank you," I said firmly, trying to sidestep around him.But he moved with me, blocking my path. "You know," he said, h

  • Curse of the Alpha demon   The meeting.

Serena's POVI stared at Ryker's retreating figure, fury boiling in my veins. How dare he just walk away like that? How dare he make decisions about my life without even giving me a chance to respond? My hands clenched into fists at my sides as I watched him disappear down the hallway, every muscle in my body screaming with the need to chase after him and tell him exactly what I thought of his high-handed attitude. But before I could move, Alec's voice cut through my rage."Serena, I'm sorry."I turned to look at him, my anger momentarily forgotten in the face of his obvious distress. "What?""About the other day," he said, his voice quiet and strained. "I know you’re still awkward about it. That’s why you don’t want to talk to me."The genuine remorse in his voice made my chest tighten with guilt. Here I was, furious at Ryker for his presumption and control, while Alec was apologizing for something that had been entirely my fault. I had been the one manipulating him, using his feelin

  • Curse of the Alpha demon   Falling for My captor

Serena's POVThe late afternoon sun was streaming through my window when I finally stirred awake, my body heavy with exhaustion and something else I didn't want to name. The sheets were tangled around me, and for a blissful moment, I felt nothing but the warmth of sleep clinging to my consciousness. Then the memories came flooding back.Ryker's hands on my skin. His mouth claiming mine. The way I had responded to him, the way I had begged him not to stop. The things I had whispered to his ear, the way my body had moved against his.I buried my face in the pillow, mortification washing over me in waves. What had I done? How could I have let myself be so weak, so stupid? I was supposed to be planning my escape, not falling into bed with my captor like some lovesick fool. The worst part wasn't even that it had happened. The worst part was how good it had felt, how right it had seemed in that moment. How even now, remembering the way he had looked at me, the way he had touched me like I w
