11. Engagement cancelled

"Dad," Isla said and dashed up to her father in an instant to hug him. She was in his embrace when tears suddenly began streaming down her cheeks in copious amounts.

"Don't worry love, your papa is here now!" A soothing stroke to the back of her head from Mr Douglas calms down his child.

Seeing how everyone's eyes were penetrating straight into my body, I couldn't help but resist the urge to try to meet the stare of any of them. Considering that I have been highly harsh towards Isla from the very beginning, I have no idea how much of what I said that they heard.

"Take responsibility for your statements and restate what you just said to my daughter!" As he carefully pulled Isla away from his embrace, Mr Douglas gave off the impression that he was beyond himself with rage. I refrained from speaking and simply turned my head away.

"Since you've admitted on your own that my daughter isn't your type, I'm afraid we'll have to call off this engagement!"
