Violet's POV
The room was spinning!
I could swear everything around me was swirling out of control. I was grateful that none of the objects hit me, even though it felt like I was trapped in the middle of a spinning vortex.
With shaky knees, I made my way forward. I clutched the wall for support as I was too scared to walk without it. My eyes were blurry and in the darkness I could hardly see anything.
Today was my best friend Kiara Hudson's birthday. She was our pack's alpha's daughter. While I'm an omega, I took plight in sharing that I was friends with the most amazing person I've ever known in my life.
Kiara was kind and loving. We met at a funfair organized in the pack. I had gone there with the other kids from the orphanage I was from.
Yeah, I'm an orphan. The warden at the orphanage told me that I was three years old when someone left me sleeping outside the orphanage's gate. They left a letter saying that they were too young and broke to raise a child. And that I was mistakenly conceived, and couldn't be aborted because of no money.
Although I have no memory of my childhood, I know that I was raised like a daughter by the warden of the orphanage who I still visit, Mrs. Edith Johnson.
A trip to the fair was our farewell treat by Mrs. Edith Johnson. While her husband owned the orphanage, she happily helped raise the kids that were brought in. She was a mother by nature and decided to help the kids rather than following her dream, which was to become a painter.
But that doesn't mean she stopped painting. She taught us, the kids at her orphanage, to paint, and I feel honored to share that I was one of her best students. A born painter!
Anyway, we were all taken out by her when we were about to leave the orphanage at the age of sixteen. In my pack, it is considered that a sixteen year old wolf is grown enough to start taking care of his or her expenses. Not to mention that we have plenty of jobs available for the teenage wolves that we can take up to earn for ourselves.
Besides that, there's a hostel facility in our pack that provided shelter for orphans like me and underprivileged kids who were either kicked out of their homes or were simply rogue wolves seized at the border.
Our Alpha, Arnold Hudson, and Kiara's father was a considerate Alpha. He paid attention to young wolves more than the adults. He believed that we were the future of our pack, and if we were provided with the right resources and education, we could be an asset.
Hence, here I'm at the age of eighteen. I have not found my mate yet. But I have the bestest BFF in the world.
I swiped a gaze around the grand hall to look for Kiara. We met at the fair that night. I recall looking at a happy family of three, enjoying ice-cream together with tears in my eyes. The parents were caring for their daughter like she was their treasure, and I couldn't help but stop in a daze and admire their love.
They had made me think about my parents and why they couldn't keep me. I was red and sobbing when I felt a hand on my shoulder.
A girl was standing next to me with a smile and two ice-cream cones in her hand. I had flinched away and bowed in respect as it was none other than Kiara Hudson, the only child of the Alpha and Luna of our pack, the cherished princess. Who wouldn't know her!
Everyone was aware of her as she was seen on television and magazines beside her parents every other day, doing social services. She was being advertised largely for the people in our world to know that she was the future Alpha Female of Blackstone Pack.
I had been utterly scared, assuming that I somehow offended her by being in the fair. What I didn't know was that I influenced her for some reason, and she was more than excited to be friends with me.
And then, we have been inseparable since that day. It's been two years since that night. Two years since I became a princess from an orphan.
Kiara was kind enough to request her Alpha father to let me stay with them. He happily agreed and I got a room beside Kiara's. We were like... Sisters. Kiara didn't do anything without me. I was overly protected and loved by her, and that made others around us bow their heads when they saw me. I was seen as part of the royal family, and Kiara's love made everything seem so natural.
That's right. Everyone looks at me with that gaze of amazement and treats me like a princess.
Because whatever comes in the Alpha's house for his daughter, it comes in a pair. One is for Kiara, and one for me.
That's why the dark blue gown I'm wearing tonight on Kiara's eighteenth birthday is identical to her dark red gown. She insisted we wear matching gowns given that my birthday was six months ago, but because Kiara had been down with unwavering fever, I refused to celebrate my eighteenth birthday. So to make it up to me, she insisted I wear the same dress as her and cut the cake with her too, and I couldn't turn her down.
We've just cut the cake and fed it to each other. Then champagne was brought in. We posed for pictures with our glasses before downing it in one big gulp. For some reason, my champagne felt off to me.
As a person who spent two years in the company of the Alpha's daughter, the heiress of the pack, I was no rookie to the taste of different kinds of drink. And champagne was my favorite.
However, it tasted a little bitter today. Not as fruity and sweet as I knew its taste. And then my head started spinning while Kiara was dragged away by her mother to introduce her to some VIP guests. My knees trembled and I realized something was definitely wrong with my drink.
Still taking support of the wall, I tried to peek over the heads of the excited guests as they hooted and clapped for someone dancing in the middle of the room under the spotlight. My vision was teary and blurry but I recognized the face and the gown. Kiara was dancing with Alpha Arnold. My lips curved seeing her so happy.
Guess I should join them even if I'm a little tipsy. I'm sure once Kiara notices my condition, she will guide me to my room and call a doctor for me.
I was about to move away from the wall and take a step ahead when a hand came around my mouth, yanking me back. My skin turned cold in fright as I was lifted off like I weighed nothing and dragged in the darkness at the back of the hall.
What transpired next changed my life forever.

39Violet's POV It was rather a quick affair— Giving the Principal, Mr. Richard Kimble the letter and then tests to specify where I stood academically, and in which field do I show more potential to fair. My answer sheets were in the Principal's hands. He was squinting his eyes at my answers as his mouth trembled before it hung open. "This is... Disbelieving! Have you been taking classes in secret, Violet?" I shook my head in a no. Principal Kimble just gaped at me for a long, long minute as a look of utter bafflement befell on his face. "Terrific!" He laughed. "All your answers are right. There's not a single answer that I can hold against you. You’ve got talent across all three fields. But I'll have to say your answers related to medical sciences are very detailed and accurate." He praised. I just smiled. Honestly, I don't know how I was able to do that. It's just that when I read the questions the answers came to me instantly. I didn’t even have to think much because the answ
38Violet's POVThe bus was polluted with ear-splitting chattering and laughter. Girls were dusting their faces with powder and the boys were attacking each other with guns made of their fingers. All that stopped the minute I entered through the door.Laughter died. Girls froze with half their face powdered and the other half looking pale. Boys had been caught in mid-motion, their guns dismantling as their fingers curled in an obvious show of disbelief. If it was any other moment then I would have melted to the floor, never wanting to be seen by these people, who were once my supportive classmates. Thanks to the Anxolia flower that my muscles stayed unshaking, my breaths composed, and the hue on my face only shining brighter. My heart was also surprisingly calm like it was any other day at school."Move out of my way, brat!" I turned around to find Kiara fuming in anger.I observed her dress, and damn, she looked gorgeous. Her skirt was recently stocked in the stores. It was from one
37"I'm not ready. I was never ready. I... I am weak. I'm sorry, mom. Your daughter is weak... And a coward. I can't face them."Auriele licked her lips as she rubbed Violet's arms. She was cold. It didn't look like she could even get to the school bus waiting outside for her (and Princess Kiara), much less get to the school. "You're not weak, baby. You're just nervous. It happens. It's natural for you to feel nervous on your first day of school." Auriele said with a chuckle. She was trying everything to lift her spirits but nothing happened. From the circular window, Auriele saw Princess Kiara down on the gravel path leading to the iron gates of the mansion. The yellow school bus was standby, giving off smoke as it vibrated. Violet had to get into the bus. If not, it would be more difficult to send her to school. Getting into that bus was important for her. She needed to get cognizant with the feeling of being surrounded by other students. That would prepare her to face the sea of
36A few days went by with Violet's nights being busy with different training sessions with the three warrior brothers. She had a training session with Dex tonight. He had just shared some difficult fighting stances and techniques with her, and now she was to repeat it. "That was amazing, Violet ! I've never had anyone learn footwork so fast. You're a born warrior. Good job." Dex patted her back with a wide grin. "Thank you. I don't think I would have been able to do it without your help. You're a splendid teacher." Violet gushed. She accepted the bottle of water Dex gave her as they settled down on the ground. The sky was cloudless indigo and the moon crescent. Night insects chirped eerily but Violet was least bit bothered, although they were in the depth of the woods, training. They had been training after midnight in the artificial woods, after everyone fell asleep. Today was Violet's third night of training, but she was doing better than many Dex had taught. He smiled at her ag
35Violet's face was alight with delight and excitement. It was the second time since Kiara’s birthday that she felt this cheerful— She made three new friends. They were sitting in the woods, sharing about themselves and what they liked. The guy with the tattoo on the shoulder was Soren. He owned a motorbike and had good knowledge for medicines. He promised to share with Violet the knowledge he had gained so far. Then the guy with hairy legs was Dex. He was the best in the army, and trained new soldiers. He was also Alpha Arnold's one of the favorites. Dex had the liberty to do many things without asking the Alpha. He promised to teach Violet to fight.Talking about the guy who was in blue knickers the other night, then he was the most interesting one, Finnik. He was a rule breaker and thus he was often punished by the Alpha. But he was still on the training ground because of his cleverness. He had a mind full of strategies that the alpha always considered during wars; and he was goin
34She squeaked and scrambled away. "You... No! No! Get away from me." She panicked. "Hey, don't fret. I'm not going to hurt you.""No... Get away. Don't come near me. I don't..." Violet crawled away on her hands and knees. This was one of those warriors who had tried to get their ways with her. This one had once held her against a tree in the middle of the night (when she was taking a stroll since she couldn't sleep) and touched her down there. Violet had somehow escaped his clutches but she was completely alone now. She hid behind a tree and whimpered loudly. Those thoughts returned to her— Why did I come downstairs? I should have stayed in my room. This guy was the main cause behind her staying in hiding in her room. He had given her the trauma that haunted her every time she thought about going down to the garden. She closed her eyes as she hoped this was just a dream. "Violet, calm down. I am not going to do anything. I am sorry for the last time but I've realized my mistak
