“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dearest Selene…”
Selene laughed when she saw Faye and Calix in their party hats with polka dots design and puffy balls on top, walking towards her with a marvelous two-tier cake on their hand.
They are beside a lake located in one of the forests just meters far from the main road heading to their house. The sun is already dipping down in the horizon, meeting the glistening water of the lake, forming a beautiful sky in purples and oranges above. Calix was able to pitch a tent and set a table filled with Faye’s dishes.
“Make a wish,” Faye said and smiled, putting the cake in front of Selene.
Selene closed her eyes and made a wish, when she opened them, a candle was lit, waiting for her. She blew it and clapped her hands, her eyes felt moist.
“Come o
“This paint is called Tenebris.” Selene’s voice from the mic sounded orotund, she held her script as she tries to stop her hand from trembling. “My inspiration came from a metaphor of person who was struggling to see from the dark, and when she walked over, and over with no sense of direction, no sense of purpose, she saw a dot of light from afar.” Selene walked to the opposite side of the stage. “And when she saw it, she started hoping, she started to run towards it, trying to chase it, all the time that she had been surrounded by darkness seemed insignificant.” The audience was quiet, the spotlight casting on Selene was making her more nervous. “But then, no matter how fast she run, or how long she had been running just to get closer to it, she realized that it was just her hallucination. With her fixation to get out from
“Are you okay? You look very pale.” Sister Bella’s worried look met Selene when she came back inside the parish. Her eyes were all puffy and red and she was still staggering.Selene smiled at the nun and told her she was just praying and got really emotional, she thought that it’s lamest excuse she have ever given to someone in her whole life.“It’s okay to cry, He never judges anyone who’s talking to Him.” Sister Bella’s smile was warm, her laugh lines were eminent on her face but her features showed proof that she was a beautiful woman back in her days. Selene felt comfortable with her.“Are you ready to meet the church people, or do you need more time alone?”Selene shook her head. “It’s fine, Sister. I’ll go meet them,” she said, smiling. They we
Selene woke up to the noise coming from the outside of her window. She grunted in annoyance and covered her head with her pillow, but the laughters and chatters did not stop. Irritated, she sat up, yawning, her neck and back were in pain because she fell asleep in a wrong posture all night. She walked to her windows and her brows straightened when she saw the nuns and helpers decorating the small quadrangle in front of the church. Balloons and triangle banners in different hues of red, blue, and yellows filled the place, tightly tied on bamboos creating borders. Several long wooden tables were lined up and one by one, helpers filled them with snacks and food packed in styrofoam boxes.Selene took a quick shower and dressed in her comfortable clothes, she put her painting materials in one bag and headed downstairs.“Selene!” the priest called her, he was with several n
“Selene!” Selene snapped back when someone held her arm, she looked on Faye, her eyes were worried. “What happened? Are you okay?” she asked, but Selene cannot feel her tongue, her hands started to tremble and cold sweats formed on her forehead. She looked back to the backend of the church and there was no one there. Empty, no sign of life. “Selene Madden, look at me!” Faye grabbed her at her shoulders and made Selene face her. “What happened??” Selene blinked twice. “I-I’m sorry, there was someone..” she trailed off with her words, trying to regain herself. “There was someone back there, I heard someone called my name,” she said. Faye frowned at her. “Look, let’s go. There was no one, okay?” Faye led her to the gate, rushing to get Selene out of the place. They drove off from the parish, and Selene was quiet the whole ride.
Lucas had it all planned. From the time he and Zera went to pay a visit to hell, he knew that Samael is up to something, and when he confirmed that his Father would be making his move to regain his right to be in heaven, he immediately went against it and refused to take his place in hell. But he was not as powerful as his Father was. When his Father threatened him to choose between obedience or the lives of his clients, he was left with no other choice. He was beyond angry, all of his life he was treated like a puppet by his Father. Sending him above was the only thing he liked as this way, he will be apart from him. And now he wants him down again, and with no other choice, he needs to obey him again.Lucas made his way out of Selene’s house. He sighed sharply remembering what happened to Selene back in the exhibit. The painting belongs to him, and he wanted Selene to see it so she would know
He quietly sat on the chair, not far from the exit door. As the hall gets crowded by people in all ages—people whose hearts have been touched by great admiration and by all willingness extended the level of veneration to the artist who stroked the brush and created a story on the canvas. One who possesses great passion within her, not scared by its flame nor the aftermath. One that Selene did. He looked up to the stage, and found his refuge, a woman who taught him that he can be saved from the cruel fate that he has. “W-Welcome, and thank you for coming,” she said. From that moment, he just want to pat her back and tell her that she is the most astonishing woman in the room, and the only woman who deserves to be recognize by her talent, by her pure soul, and by her enormous amount of love; a love he failed to keep. Lucas sent her calmness, with the limitations of his love, this is the only thi
Selene slammed the door behind her. She tried to control her heavy breathing as she collapsed to the couch, shutting her eyes. She can’t believe what just happened back at the hall, she could still feel the ghost of Lucas’s touch on her arm, and the inexplicable burning feeling she felt in her chest when the woman reached to kiss him on his cheek. She rose her head in a swift and quick motion, and her eyes flung open when she thought of something. She needs to get back home and call Calix, she needs to divert her mind and do something to make the burning feeling fade away. She also thought of Faye, who is probably waiting for her in their home carrying the news from the hospital. She hurriedly organized her things on her bag, her movements were fast for the fear that Rico might catch her and not let her go. She stepped out of the backstage room, and tiptoed her way to the back exit which will bring her
A knock came at the door of Lucas’s office, he slightly tilted his head upward and inhaled deeply before resting his back against his chair. “Come in,” he said, raising his voice a little. The door creaked open and a woman in her 30’s entered. Lucas judged her from her looks, which was unnecessarily a bit exaggerated. She was wearing an elegant dress with big puffy sleeves, a knee-high boots and a red fedora hat with a wide brim over her head. She walked to his table in such graceful manner, her little hand bag swinging by the air on her hand. Lucas can feel his frustration creeping up, certain that this kind of client was the least one he’d like to have for today. The woman sat in such elegant and slow manner on the chair, she put her bag on Lucas’s table and took off her fedora hat, resting it on her lap. Lucas noticed she also have excessive gothic make-up that did not quite matched on her bright pink dre
