Claire's POV

A hand clasped across my mouth as I tried to stop myself from screaming out. It was what I had wanted, all I had wanted. An internship with Maclina's tech company was the stepping stone to the career I had to build.

I had also heard rumours on how I would be made a full fledged staff if I do well enough which I hoped to do. I really wanted to make this work, for that girl who had been told she wouldn't amount to nothing.

Our stories sound alike, although he had wealthy parents, he had struggled to make sure that he created a name for himself and he had done just that. Within. Within the span of two years, Maclina was a giant tech company with major prototypes and patents which they oversaw.

Throwing a fist in the air, I threw a glance at my surroundings, tiptoeing to the balcony which had an infinity pool attached to it. I swallowed, willing myself to be calm as my dream to own an apartment just as fine as this wasn't so far off.

I have seen talks about it, but seeing it in itself was spectacular. The office had tables leaning against the wall, with a keyboard attached to a MacBook.

My fingertips ran on then while I tried to fight the urge to ask where the others were when he strutted in, dressed in navy blue pants and a beige top to match.

I swallowed when he glared at me, piercing through my soul with those Hazel eyes, I threw my eyes away, glancing back at the marble tile not wanting to believe that there was a possibility that he was the one who had been with me last night.

There was no way that was possible, he would be the last person I will ever run into in the streets of Texas, besides we really didn't run in the same circle so that was out of it.

Letting out a gush of air, I listened to what he said. “That is yours, you should be able to handle an iPad, right?” I shoved how condescending his tone was, focusing on the issue at hand.

“Yes,”

“Good, then let's go.”

His gait straightened as he sauntered past me toward the elevator while I was left with no choice than to meet up as his legs were endless and I was painstakingly slow.

I let out a sigh of relief when he halted, just enough for me to catch up with him before he got into the elevator. The air clenched when we were in,in so close proximity to him. I noticed how huge he was, and how I paled in comparison to him.

“Stop staring, that's rude.” He uttered just before the elevator dinged and I stepped out after him.

The car opened with a click and I slipped in after him, trying so hard not to touch the interior. Wales had a fine car but not this fine.

I couldn't bring myself to confront him, maybe I wasn't any better since I had sex with a stranger the night before.

“It wouldn't be that great if you keep zoning out.” His voice drifted out, slamming me so hard.

“Mr. Jerald.”

“Jerald.” He turned to me.

“What?”

“Let's drop the title, call me Jerald and I will call you Claire as well.”

“But why?”

“Enough with the questions. I expect that you will be at your best while we are there. Don't make me regret employing you.”

“Is there something you want me to do aside from taking notes?”

“Watch, ascertain, point out the flaws as well. It is camouflaged as a late brunch, but it's more than that.”

“I get that.”

He drove in, stopping right outside a restaurant which lay on the outskirts of town and I gulped in, wanting to believe it was some kind of luck that seemed to have run out because I frequented this place with Wales whenever he was in a good mood.

He got out, the same time I did, brushing his fingers slightly against mine before we walked in. I stood transfixed to the ground a bit thrown out of place when he gazed back at me.

Rushing after him, I sat beside him when he did, a pale man with salt and pepper hair sat, both hands on a crab as he sucked in noisily on it. I muffled my speech when Jerald greeted, then sat down afterwards.

“Good afternoon.” I greeted after him, wanting to take a seat when a glare from Jerald had me standing upright. So cruel.

“ Jerald, who is this?” His eyes lingered on me, running through me intensely before he wiped his fingers with a tissue.

“My secretary, Claire, Claire, this is Mr. Owen.”

“ A pleasure to meet you, Mr. Owen.” I summoned up the nicest smile I could conjure, hoping that he would buy into it even when I was so displeased. What was wrong with me taking a seat? My legs were beginning to ache.

“Well, well, I never knew you had a secretary this young, why haven't I met her before?”

“She was newly hired, and by me.” Jerald answered. It took everything in me not to throw my fist at Mr. Owen because he was the type who couldn't keep his lust to himself.

I wonder if he knew that I could smell it all the way from here, that he wanted me and somehow, I really hoped Jerald would get him off.

“Well, well, I'm guessing this is going to go easier than I had expected.”

Jerald slipped his phone out, handing it over to Mr. Owen.

“ You asked for this, and that's it. If we come to a conclusion today, I will come over myself to show you a presentation on how it works.”

“You have done that already, Jerald, and there's no need saying the same thing over again, it makes it boring.” His lips curved into a smirk, before he ran his eyes over me once more, ogling at me.

My hands fistened as I tried to get how irritating he was acting out of my mind. My eyes turned to Jerald who I was so sure knew what was happening, but he was silent. What exactly was he doing?

“I am ready to sign the contract right here and now. I will have my assistant make a transfer right now, I know what you are capable of, what your work is capable of.”

“ And?”

“ I am going to save you a whole journey of coming for the presentation and throw in a million if you do what I want.”

The air crackled with tension because before he could say it, I knew, felt it and was sure Jerald did as well because he turned to me, his orbs endless before he tore them away and I found myself wanting to tell him not to do that, not to throw me to the wolves.

“A night with your secretary, she leaves with me and you get your money, and I get the application and all, what do you say?”

Jerald's POV I had taken the car for a spin because I knew I had to calm myself down. I hadn't been expecting that, at least not when I stepped out of the office intending to make sure that we get better. I had promised myself to put in the work but how was that possible when I had been bombarded with questions immediately I got back in?I should have expected the paparazzi to get an idea about this, or maybe it had been Eldora herself who had instructed that the photos be taken, but the problem lay with the angles they had been taken from, and that was all that mattered because to Claire, it had seemed as though I was talking to her amicably and possibly trying to get her to come back to me, but we both knew that was far from it. We were the only ones who knew that the only reason I had been there was to warn her to stay away from Claire, but why was it that I hadn't gotten to say a word? Maybe it was how chaotic it had all been, everything had happened too soon that I had barely

  • Daddy's little princess    Collapsed

Claire's POV When I saw the picture, I wanted to believe that there was no way he could be the one. That there would never be any way he would do that, but now, I didn't know what it was I was to expect anymore. He had given his words and I wanted to believe them, but the more I tried to, the more it hurt. Was it that he had been with her all of these times and that was the reason why he had been unable to come see me?It had been weeks, weeks and I had been there. Was he.... I swallowed, with her? Giving his body to her even after he had told me that his body was mine? Had he gone back on his word?I had tried everything not to think about it, and I meant everything, but it kept coming up, maybe it was because I had gotten hurt recently by his actions or possibly how apart we were, I needed all of these to make sense and to do that, I had to face him. I was here finally, after staying at the shared apartment with Elena because to me that was what was right, it was what I had to do

  • Daddy's little princess    Confrontation

Jerald's POVI have thought of what to do, something that would be painful to Eldora, and it had been difficult to come up with, but I have finally been able to determine what it would be for her and her family. No one hurt my fiancée and got away with it. I couldn't bear it. I had tried everything I could to step in and see her, but I wasn't able to do that. Not when the guilt had settled in so deeply that I was unable to tell what it was that I was supposed to do anymore. But I knew that there was no way I was going to stare into her face without blaming myself for having done that to her. That I had hurt her, which was the truth. I gulped in, peering into my iPad. Today was her final exam, and afterward, she was to head home. I had decided to do better, maybe try to make us work. There was a chance to do that, only if I wanted it; that was what I kept telling myself and what I was going ahead with. My eyes settled on the packages I had planned for her: possibly a house on the

  • Daddy's little princess    Uncertain

Claire's POVIt hurt. It hurt so bad that I thought I would pass out, and maybe I would have if only I hadn't been biting on my lips just so I would still be conscious. " What the hell happened?" Jerald's mother questioned as she ran in, her eyes glaring furiously at Eldora like she knew she would be telling lies. " She walked down that path when I told her not to. You know it always has pointed edges and one slashed through her arms, please can you help her? She is losing a lot of blood and I can't... I can't watch this happen anymore, not when she seems to be in so much pain." Jerald's mother crouched beside me with her hands on her arms while she leaned her phone against her ears, speaking into it. A man looking short and stoic appeared shortly afterward to take me home. I winced in pain while I was being carried out, knowing that this wouldn't have happened if Jerald had insisted that he was going to take me home. " Shush child. You will be fine." Jerald's mum kept whispering

  • Daddy's little princess    Pretence

Claire's POV He left. Jerald left, and the only thing that told me that was the car that had zoomed off, leaving its trails behind. I swallowed, my eyes parched knowing that he had left me with his mother. How was it possible that he had somehow come to know where I would be? I was running away not to get away from him, but for myself. I was leaving because of my father. I had given him the money he had requested, and thereafter, he had insisted that he needed another, but not at that moment. He asked me to be on standby because he would place a call to let me know when next he needed me to send another over, or he would give the juicy news about who I really was to the paparazzi and how my mother had been someone who sold her body, even going at length to let me know he had contacts of those who were ready to buy at a click. He had shown me all of those, and I knew the only thing was for me to leave. I hadn't been able to sleep a wink, not even when Jerald kept peering at me as he

  • Daddy's little princess    So much love to give

Jerald's POV "So you think bringing me here is the solution? The only one that you could think of?" She asked. I had both hands on my waist while I stared at her, knowing that there wasn't anything that I could do or could be done aside from this. "Since you don't seem to be listening to whatever it is I am willing to say, maybe staying with my parents will aid you better." I explained as I made my way in, giving orders to have the bags brought in. "What the hell do you think you are doing, Jerald?" Mother questioned when I showed up at the door. Her eyes are staring into me. "Your daughter is here. I thought you would be elated to have her with you?"" And why are you here with her when she is supposed to be with you? In your house? Don't tell me..." Her eyes squinted before she turned to Claire, who hadn't moved an inch. "Did he touch you, child?""What? Why would you think I would place a finger on her? You should know me better than that."Was that how she looked at me? Some
