LOGINClaire's POV
A hand clasped across my mouth as I tried to stop myself from screaming out. It was what I had wanted, all I had wanted. An internship with Maclina's tech company was the stepping stone to the career I had to build. I had also heard rumours on how I would be made a full fledged staff if I do well enough which I hoped to do. I really wanted to make this work, for that girl who had been told she wouldn't amount to nothing. Our stories sound alike, although he had wealthy parents, he had struggled to make sure that he created a name for himself and he had done just that. Within. Within the span of two years, Maclina was a giant tech company with major prototypes and patents which they oversaw. Throwing a fist in the air, I threw a glance at my surroundings, tiptoeing to the balcony which had an infinity pool attached to it. I swallowed, willing myself to be calm as my dream to own an apartment just as fine as this wasn't so far off. I have seen talks about it, but seeing it in itself was spectacular. The office had tables leaning against the wall, with a keyboard attached to a MacBook. My fingertips ran on then while I tried to fight the urge to ask where the others were when he strutted in, dressed in navy blue pants and a beige top to match. I swallowed when he glared at me, piercing through my soul with those Hazel eyes, I threw my eyes away, glancing back at the marble tile not wanting to believe that there was a possibility that he was the one who had been with me last night. There was no way that was possible, he would be the last person I will ever run into in the streets of Texas, besides we really didn't run in the same circle so that was out of it. Letting out a gush of air, I listened to what he said. “That is yours, you should be able to handle an iPad, right?” I shoved how condescending his tone was, focusing on the issue at hand. “Yes,” “Good, then let's go.” His gait straightened as he sauntered past me toward the elevator while I was left with no choice than to meet up as his legs were endless and I was painstakingly slow. I let out a sigh of relief when he halted, just enough for me to catch up with him before he got into the elevator. The air clenched when we were in,in so close proximity to him. I noticed how huge he was, and how I paled in comparison to him. “Stop staring, that's rude.” He uttered just before the elevator dinged and I stepped out after him. The car opened with a click and I slipped in after him, trying so hard not to touch the interior. Wales had a fine car but not this fine. I couldn't bring myself to confront him, maybe I wasn't any better since I had sex with a stranger the night before. “It wouldn't be that great if you keep zoning out.” His voice drifted out, slamming me so hard. “Mr. Jerald.” “Jerald.” He turned to me. “What?” “Let's drop the title, call me Jerald and I will call you Claire as well.” “But why?” “Enough with the questions. I expect that you will be at your best while we are there. Don't make me regret employing you.” “Is there something you want me to do aside from taking notes?” “Watch, ascertain, point out the flaws as well. It is camouflaged as a late brunch, but it's more than that.” “I get that.” He drove in, stopping right outside a restaurant which lay on the outskirts of town and I gulped in, wanting to believe it was some kind of luck that seemed to have run out because I frequented this place with Wales whenever he was in a good mood. He got out, the same time I did, brushing his fingers slightly against mine before we walked in. I stood transfixed to the ground a bit thrown out of place when he gazed back at me. Rushing after him, I sat beside him when he did, a pale man with salt and pepper hair sat, both hands on a crab as he sucked in noisily on it. I muffled my speech when Jerald greeted, then sat down afterwards. “Good afternoon.” I greeted after him, wanting to take a seat when a glare from Jerald had me standing upright. So cruel. “ Jerald, who is this?” His eyes lingered on me, running through me intensely before he wiped his fingers with a tissue. “My secretary, Claire, Claire, this is Mr. Owen.” “ A pleasure to meet you, Mr. Owen.” I summoned up the nicest smile I could conjure, hoping that he would buy into it even when I was so displeased. What was wrong with me taking a seat? My legs were beginning to ache. “Well, well, I never knew you had a secretary this young, why haven't I met her before?” “She was newly hired, and by me.” Jerald answered. It took everything in me not to throw my fist at Mr. Owen because he was the type who couldn't keep his lust to himself. I wonder if he knew that I could smell it all the way from here, that he wanted me and somehow, I really hoped Jerald would get him off. “Well, well, I'm guessing this is going to go easier than I had expected.” Jerald slipped his phone out, handing it over to Mr. Owen. “ You asked for this, and that's it. If we come to a conclusion today, I will come over myself to show you a presentation on how it works.” “You have done that already, Jerald, and there's no need saying the same thing over again, it makes it boring.” His lips curved into a smirk, before he ran his eyes over me once more, ogling at me. My hands fistened as I tried to get how irritating he was acting out of my mind. My eyes turned to Jerald who I was so sure knew what was happening, but he was silent. What exactly was he doing? “I am ready to sign the contract right here and now. I will have my assistant make a transfer right now, I know what you are capable of, what your work is capable of.” “ And?” “ I am going to save you a whole journey of coming for the presentation and throw in a million if you do what I want.” The air crackled with tension because before he could say it, I knew, felt it and was sure Jerald did as well because he turned to me, his orbs endless before he tore them away and I found myself wanting to tell him not to do that, not to throw me to the wolves. “A night with your secretary, she leaves with me and you get your money, and I get the application and all, what do you say?”Claire's POV One last glance at the mirror had me swallowing my spittle. I wasn't going to have anyone walking me down the aisle, but that was fine by me. They were all assholes anyway. The man who had given birth to me and his brother had turned out to be assholes I could live without, but on days like this, I couldn't help but miss the woman who had given it all for me. The one who wouldn't be here. The door creaked open with Elena stepping in."Oh my," her eyes were wet with tears as she exhaled, taking in the sky-blue wedding gown I had on. One that was decorated with pearls and diamonds."I know that you were going to look exquisite in this, but not this gorgeous." She walked closer, wrapping me in a hug. "Oh my, my baby is getting married.""I'm already married," I whispered to her when she nodded. "Fine, fine, you are, but you never had a wedding, and a wedding is a massive criterion to the public, not that I care." She shook her head. "I am so glad you are doing this, gi
Claire's POV Jerald drove as fast as he could down to the hospital while I kept praying that everything would be okay. Seeing her perfectly fine was going to be everything I could have wished for; at least it would help the thought that had besieged my mind recently. The car finally came to a stop, and when I got out, rushing through the lobby, Jerald had to remind me to slow my pace so he could keep up with me, as I was moving far too fast. I got to the elevator just in time before the door clasped shut, with Jerald sticking a leg in until we were in; a breath of air left my lungs when it clasped shut, making its way up. Eyes glanced at me, and I was going to take that as a result of what I had on and nothing else. When the elevator finally got to the top floor where she was being kept, we both stepped out. Sephon stood, face pale, and my heart sank. Has something gone wrong? I had come just as fast as I could. She stepped aside for us to walk through, not barring us like she
Claire's POV I cackled, amused at the nerve she had to call me that. "An impersonator?" I let out an amused. "That's interesting." I whispered before slipping my fingers, which were covered in red gloves, into my purse, pulling out a slim folder, which I flipped open before placing it on the table. Hums filled the room; silent voices echoed at the name that was on it. Drandy holding shares registry. Stamped, certified, and verified."That is fake," Eldora countered, staring at everyone as she scoffed."You have always been known for being this way, and I thought you might have stopped. You show up here, dressed this way with fake papers, and you think you could make me look fake?"My face stayed blank. "Dress like what? A woman who owns 10 percent of shares in Drandy? One whose signature on any contract would determine its worth?""That is fake." Eldora insisted, staring at Lindsy, who sat watching. The air cracked with tension, sizzling through. "Eldora," my hands leaned agains
Jerald's POV "Why would you even think I would be scared of you?" I planted a kiss on my wife's neck as I asked. I knew it would have been overwhelming for others, especially after what had happened last night, but what I saw was a woman who was making her enemies pay. "Because of last night?" She was helping me fix my tie. "I would never be scared of you, sweet." My head leaned against hers. "There's no way I would be; besides, every woman who is married to any of the Michaels has to be that tough to stay within the family." I explained it to her. "So you don't have an issue with that at all?"I drew in a breath. "I don't have an issue with that. If you killed someone, you should know you can always place a call across, and I will help you dig a grave for that body." She chuckled before nodding. "Does that make us the perfect couple?"I kissed her nose gently. "Yes, it does make us the best because we both have our hands tainted with blood, which isn't a bad thing.""I know you
Claire's POV "You are perfectly okay; your baby is in perfect condition." The doctor explained with a smile lacing his face. I let out a sigh at what I had just been told. At the same time, Jerald squeezed my hands before we got up. "Thank you." He let out a sigh of appreciation before walking out.I drew in breath, knowing everything was over. It was going to be okay. It had to be.Mother stood outside waiting with Elena, and they both stood up, gazing at us anticipating what the report was. "I'm okay; everything is perfect."Mother nodded. "That's perfect. It is the most marvelous news I could have gotten.""I have to leave with Jerald." My eyes strayed to the ICU where Kiara was being kept. Although it has taken hours, she had been brought out of the theater and was certified okay. A weight I had never known was there rolled off at the news. "You should be taking some rest." Elena muttered as she inched closer. "I will be fine. Why don't you go back with Mother and take that
Claire's POV It had happened in the split of a second. Sephon had been busy trying to get the men off barely after letting Kiara go, while I sat trying to get myself out when she had stepped in to help. It had all happened so soon that I had lost count of how many times I had screamed, but I begged repeatedly for her to live. "Kiara," I yelled, hands around her while Jerald punched Henry repeatedly until he was half dead. Sephon, who had been alerted by my cries, flicked her head, her eyes raging at what she saw. "She..." I tried to explain, tears running down in torrents. "She saved me. She shouldn't have done so, but she did. She is always saving me; why would you do that?" I asked Kiara, who had a tiny smile on her face as life faded from her eyes. She had no obligations to do so."You...have...a child...in.... I...couldn't....let...you....lose...it again." She answered before her hands fell slack beside her.Sephon scooped her off me, the ground rumbling as she ran across, m
