“The number you’re calling cannot be reached at this moment. Please call back later,” the phone said as the nurse dialed the number.

She frowned and tried again.

“The number you’re calling is currently switched off.”

Letting out a soft sigh, the nurse glanced at the paper again. Then she stood up, looked around the hallway, and scanned the area, hoping to spot the man who had given her the number.

Holding the paper tightly, she stepped away from the desk, calling out gently while checking each direction, “Sir? Hello? Are you still here?”

But there was no sign of him.

“So happy you decided to come see your aunt after so long,” a chubby Italian-looking woman said as she placed a cup of tea on the table.

Kristen nodded, feeling grateful that the woman had accepted her into her home. She glanced down at her phone, still trying to turn it on.
