THE LETTER

I closed the door as it banged, its echo leaving a hollow feeling.

My heart thudded erratically against my chest as I stared at the letter in my hands.

What exactly was inside? And who had sent it to me? Why?

Questions filled my head from different angles. I've heard of cases where girls receive an anonymous letter telling them lies and secretly kidnapping them if they happen to fall for the trap.

I held the envelope, which suddenly felt heavier than before.

But of course, how else was I supposed to know if I didn't open it?

I tore the letter open, and a white paper wrapped and tied with a blue silk ribbon sat inside the mail.

Clean. Untouched.

LEA was boldly written with their symbol at the side [an eagle stretched out, ready to fly].

No way. I whispered in my head. I hit my face twice to make sure it wasn't one of my numerous dreams.

But the letter still lay cold in my hands; my fingers tightened around it, and I did the only thing I could.

I laughed, but then it broke into something louder. I was screaming.

I fucking screamed because this was a miracle.

The letter read:

I fell slowly to the floor as tears streamed down my face in waves.

She still remembered and still cared even when she was gone. I could feel her presence.

Flashback

“Elena, why can't I go to the same school as Rachel? Their uniform is lovely, and I also like the school setting,” I pouted.

“Jordan! It's Mother, not Elena, and how many times do I have to tell you to stop talking while eating?" my father barked.

“She can call me whatever she likes, dear. Jordan?”

“Yes, Mom," I smiled.

“You will go to LEA when the time comes; it's a promise, ok? And then you and Rachel can always be together,” she said and drew me closer as she kissed my cheek, patting my head.

End of flashback

I wailed loudly as I fumbled to the floor, my tears a mixture of joy and sorrow.

Receiving a reminder of her supposed death was a harsh blow to my fragile heart. My legs trembled even as I walked to the couch to get a better hold of myself.

Hours later

I woke up as the sun hit my face, the sound of a car horn blaring loudly.

I must have dozed off from exhaustion.

I quickly jumped down from the bed as I rushed downstairs, and my father was back.

And so were Lillian and her followers.

“Oh my… it feels so good to be home, Lillian Love,” he smiled as they kissed each other. Lillian smiled like a perfect wife.

“Ohhh Jordan,” he said as he hugged me.

“You never grow, do you?” he teased.

“No, I never do, Dad," I smirked.

"Oh, of course, you know how short she is, darling. It's inherited,” she said to my hearing.

Unfortunately, my dad had passed me by on the way to the dining table. Tyler and Taylor surrounded him like birds.

They probably wanted to ask for their monthly allowance.

“Damn it, Lilian, you always seem to amaze me with your food,” he laughed.

“You know me, Monroe, always giving the best,” she laughed.

I scoffed as I walked to the kitchen. I could finally eat as I wanted.

Not for long, though.

Lillian strolled into the kitchen with a sly grin.

“I must say, good job, Jordan,” she smirked.

“Anything for you, sweet Mom," I smiled, and I brushed past her shoulder, leaving the kitchen as I walked to the dining room.

We were seated eating in the dining room, but my mind wasn't there. It kept going back to the letter burning a hole through my pocket.

I didn't know if I should tell Dad or not. I still couldn't run away even if I wanted to. I would get caught before I could say Jack.

“Jordan…

“Jordannnn…” I heard my name as I jerked out of my thoughts.

“Pfft… Pathetic,” Tyler scoffed silently.

“Jordan… What's going through your mind?” Lillian asked as she caressed my face, smiling.

I shook my head in amusement.

“Is something bothering you, dear sis?” Taylor asked with a smirk.

“No,” I whispered.

“C’mon, Jordeey… your mom and sisters care about you, can't you see that?” Dad said as he held Lillian's hand.

“I don't know what I would do without you, Liliian." He smiled, and the witch smiled in response.

I wanted to wipe that smile off her face so bad.

“I got mail!” I said.

Taylor and Tyler shared a glance and burst into laughter.

“Girlssss… keep it down,” Lillian barked.

They continued with their giggling, but Lillian knew something was off. She kept on pressuring me to speak.

Her eyes had a faint look.

“Who’s the mail from?” Dad asked.

At this point, the table went silent.

“LEA,” I smiled in triumph as I saw the look in Lillian's eyes.

"C'mooonnnn Jordannnn,” Taylor screamed in laughter.

“You don't know how to tell jokes, do you??” Lillian said, laughing, but I could see the fear in her eyes. Her hands betrayed the posture she was trying so hard to maintain.

“Silence!”

Dad's voice had always commanded silence.

“Let me see,” he asked, and I brought the mail out, still neat and clean.

The look on my stepsisters' faces faded.

They knew I wasn't lying.

“Oh dear, this is great news. Calls for a celebration,” Lillian said, her eyes flaring, but of course Father didn't notice that.

“Your mother had always remembered even the little things,” he whispered.

He missed her. I knew he did. Lillian rolled her eyes. “We can't possibly let Jordan go, darling,” she said, caressing his beard.

“Yes, Dad, she's doing better off with the tutor. Mr. James is a professional dad."

Taylor said, her breath hitching repeatedly.

Tyler just kept a blank face staring at me in silent shock. One never knew what she was thinking.

Lillian and her daughters kept arguing, trying to convince Dad I wasn't good enough to go.

"Dad, she can't, girls like her…

“Shut your fucking mouth, Taylor. I'm older than you guys, and I have a right to speak. Thank you.” I stood up, hitting the table.

“Sit down, Jordan,” Lillian tutted.

“Noo… I'm going to LEA, and no one's stopping me. You don't get to make the decisions. You're all…

“Enough!!” he yelled.

Once again the table was silent. Only our breaths were heard.

“I’ve made my decision.”

“And darling, remember…” Lillian tried to interrupt.

“She’s going."

  • Dangerous Obsession   NO ONE GOES HOME

ALEXANDER’S POVI had never been this mad and disappointed at myself—a feeling that I hadn’t had in a long time.Resurfacing.I hated what I felt right now. It was wrong. Weakness.Dad’s words kept repeating in my head: weakness, weakness, weakness.I punched the wall hard as wood splintered beneath my knuckles.Pain shot through my hand, but it wasn’t enough. It would never be enough.Blood trickled down my fingers and dripped onto the wooden floor.I should’ve known Jordan Monroe would never listen when she had her mind set on something.“Fuck—” I whispered as I snatched my jacket from the chair. The door opened as Sara ran in, dried tears on her face, obviously from crying all night, but I looked at her with an indifferent expression. She had one task—just one: Don’t let her slip past you. And just that one, she couldn’t fulfill.“How’s it going outside?” I asked, my voice void of even the slightest emotion.“They’re still searching,” she burst into tears as she fell on the bed, he

  • Dangerous Obsession   CAMPS AND SECRETS VII-DAY THREE

On the third day of camp, make sure to never face an unknown figure alone. —-------------- Sara stared at the photograph again. Then at my necklace. Then back at me. Neither of us spoke for a long time. “So you’re saying someone’s following you and you found this in the forest?” Sara questioned, her voice laced with sharp disbelief. I nodded, still in shock, but my hand kept twisting and caressing the necklace gently. “...This is huge if it’s real—” “It is real, Sara!” I bemoaned, standing up with more force than necessary. “Fine, fine. It’s real. How does this person know you? Follows you down here? Oh my God,” she held her head between her hands. “It’s my duty to find out, and I’m going to find out tonight—or either way, before we leave for school,” I said with a calm and unknown certainty that I didn’t know where it came from. She raised both hands in surrender. “Fine. Fine. It’s real.” She sighed. “But how does this person know you? How are they following you all the w

No! No! No!Alex wouldn’t do this. Alex wouldn’t do this.I muttered mentally even as I stared at the evidence in front of me.“I’m gonna kill him–how dare he?” Sara screamed even as she rushed to hug me.The look on my face pitiful.I couldn’t feel my legs. I fell like a lump of clothes on my bed. This isn’t coincidence. No it wasn’t.“First is a Coincidence. Second is pattern and third? Third is fate,” I recited last Alex had said last night. Just before the video popped up.“The last time, he was the one who didn it right… he did it himself… said–said it was to get everyone to see and believe now this?”I sobbed, my voice coming out in broken sound.Sara held my face in between her hands and stared straight into my eyes which tears were threatening to fall out from.“Look at me Jordan, I think Alex is using you. We have to stop this now!”The video wasn't on the school blog, how come it was sent privately to us… who else was it sent to??”I nipped. “That’s true,” Sara frowned.I qui

  • Dangerous Obsession   CAMPS AND SECRETS VII-DAY TWO

On the second day of camp is surely not a time to get a life threatening message and a video of you and your worst enemy with his head in between your legs while you shook and shivered in tangled sheets moaning his name sexily according to him. The sun peeked through the curtains quietly like a calm wind that breaks through tension. I opened my eyes letting it adapt to the surroundings and the muscular body staring at me. Last night flooded in like rain in my thoughts. Jordan would have ran away but right now, I didn't feel like running away. I wanted to stay, his arms suddenly felt protective and…. Safe. Both of us kept quiet, no one wanting to break the silence that followed last night’s aftermath. Alexander's hand moved to my hair, stroking it gently, so slowly it felt illegally pleasurable “And this is the second time this should be happening ” he whispered. I swallowed before replying. “No, the first – and the last” “, Hopefully ” I whispered to my hearing only. “It’s th

  • Dangerous Obsession   CAMPS AND SECRETS VI

A dark figure slipped silently between the trees before stopping near one of the cabins. My heartbeat slowed for just a second as I tried to make out who it was.The moonlight shifted through the leaves, giving me a clearer view of the cabin.Alex’s cabin. The figure glanced around cautiously before moving closer to his door.Every instinct in my body screamed that something wasn’t right.Without thinking, I stepped off the path and quietly followed.I hid behind a tree while the figure rounded the cabin, stepping a foot on a black path. He looked around and walked away, disappearing slowly into the night as his cape flew with the wind.Making sure the path was clear and no one was around, I walked to the exact spot he had pressed his foot down, putting my leg on the same spot—but nothing happened.“Strange,” I muttered. The door suddenly clicked. My heart jumped in fear. The knob slowly turned and it opened.Alex stood shirtless, staring down at me with a not-so-good face.“What are

Angela and her crew were waltzing down into the arena with extremely short knickers. “Tsk.” Sara clicked her teeth. “They’d do anything to get the attention of everyone around.” I shrugged. “Might as well leave them the fuck alone. I want to enjoy this island to its fullest.” I added except I got paired with the fucking witch in a cabin. Sara took my hand as we walked down to the wooden stools gathered round the fire. “Isn’t it too early to start a fire?” A voice recoiled as sand whipped around my legs. The one time clumsy Brooklyn. “Hey Brooks.” I drawled slowly and sarcastically. “Oops!! Sorry girl. I didn’t see you there.” she pouted, dusting the sand off my body. We were all seated waiting for Miss Maya to come start whatever we were going to do. This camp was actually beneficial, we talked to people we didn’t talk to in school. Everyone got to know each other and– Wait, what? “What’d you say?” I asked Brooklyn this time not mentally. “Tell me about you and Alex.” she
