Sally

This was the hundredth time I had sighed today. I was waiting impatiently for my so-called daughters and Davi to get out of the house and get in the car.

We were on our way to Stevens's wedding, and by the looks of things, we might get there when the reception was over.

Four years had passed since my dad died and since Pamela was sent to the asylum. Yes, she had gone insane. And she got worse every single day.

Steven had finally decided to move on and settle down, and now he was getting married to a very nice, bubbly woman. Haven was her name; she was a widow with a twelve-year-old daughter, Zoey.

She was a great woman and took Levi as her own son. The nice little family was finally complete.

Steven was actually glad that his wedding with Pamela didn't come through. That was actually a sign that they were not meant for each other. So now, Levi had a better person to call Mom.

Cisco got tired of waiting for us so he took another car and left. He was Steven's best man and didn't want to get to the church late.

I honked multiple times and kept screaming at the top of my voice, telling them that if they weren't down in three minutes, then I was driving off.

Nora came rushing down a few seconds later. She was wearing a light pink flowing dress with little diamonds scattered around it.

She looked like a fairy but the dress was pretty.

I smiled as I looked at my daughter. She was nine and much taller but also a bit chubby. She was the only one who didn't care about her weight, unlike Iris and Mia.

She entered the car with her shoes in her hands it was then I realized that she had come out barefoot.

"Are you not going to put that on ?"  I asked, my brows raised.

"I will when we get there." She said slumping on the back seat. " The heels would make my feet sore, I can't be hopping when the ceremony has barely begun. "

I chuckled." You're going to be in the car for like half an hour, so how's your feet going to get sore ?"

She shrugged. "I just don't want to wear them now."

I sighed and honked the car once more. "What the hell are they still doing ?"

"You won't believe it if I told you." Nora laughed slyly.

I turned to look at her. "Please, do tell," I asked, feigning curiosity.

She cleared her throat like she was about to announce something very important.

" Well, Iris thought she looked like a grandma, so Davi helped her apply makeup. You're makeup !"

I snapped. " She did what? " I had specifically warned them to stay away from makeup and get used to their natural beauty.

"That's not all. The whole makeover was a disaster, and now Iris looks like a freaking ragdoll."

I eyed her, She immediately whispered a sorry for cursing. "Why the hell is she so bothered about makeup? "

Nora flipped her thick wavy hair to the side and used a Clip to hold it in place. "Apparently, she's scared that Zoey would steal Levi from her with her ravishing beauty."

I almost choked. " Zoey is going to be Levi's stepsister from today ."  For the past few years, I had noticed this thing going on between Lev, Iris and Zoey, but I didn't want to get involved in their teenage stuff.

I wanted them to be able to handle things themselves, but it looks like Levi and Iris are having more than a thing together.

"Iris doesn't see it that way. She sees Zoey as an obstacle." She rolled her eyes. " Mum, I think she's lovestruck."

Maybe I should talk to both of them. They are both too young to be thinking about love and look at what it's turning the iris into.

"Can you just go call them?" I sighed.

"There's no need, they're already coming." She said pointing to the house.

I looked just in time to see Iris in a red dress with what looked like paint on her face. My eyes widened as I stared at my fourteen-year-old daughter.

Her face had been completely transformed and it was awful. She actually looked like a ragdoll, a really ugly one.

She smiled weirdly as she got into the front seat while Mia and Davi joined Nora at the back.

"Iris ?" I said calmly.

She hummed and refused to look at me.

"Iris, what's that on your face ?" I asked, she looked embarrassed and I didn't want her to feel completely downbeat.

The girls started giggling at the back and I glared at them through the rear mirror. Immediately they shut their mouths.

I got out of the car and went over to Iris. I opened the door for her. "Come out," I said, and slowly she came out, still looking down.

I grabbed her hand and gently took her back to the house and into my room.

I sat her down, took a wipe and began willing the mess on her face.

Her eyes were red and it looked like she was holding back a stream of tears.

I sighed. "Iris, you shouldn't be doing stuff like this. You should know better."

She sniffed as a drop of year escaped her eyelid ." I just want him to notice me, it feels like he isn't giving me enough attention."

Picking up another wipe, I went to wipe the eye shadow that was smudged on her face. " We've talked about this, iris. A girl should never chase a boy. Let him do the chasing."

"But, but ..." I cut her off.

"First you're too young. Focus on making a better woman of yourself, build yourself first. Second, know your own value. Don't ever throw yourself at a guy; instead, make yourself hard to get. Don't degrade yourself so much just because you want to get someone's attention. Instead, make yourself stand out and be more distinguished. Have self-respect, and you'll see that he'll come running to you."

Tears were already falling from her eyes now ."I'm sorry, Mum. I was so stupid."

I hugged her. " It's alright to be stupid once in a while."

She chuckled."really?"

"Of course! I've done thousands of stupid things in my life." I said, thinking back to when I was younger.

"Don't worry, mum. I promise from now on to focus on making myself a better woman, and then Levi will have no choice ." She said, wiping the tears from her face.

It was now replaced by firm conviction and determination.

I rolled my eyes ." Seriously, Levi again?"

She blushed lightly.

Jeez, why is my daughter so into him?

Sally I placed both hands on her shoulder. Her face was finally rid of makeup and now back to her natural state. " What have I always told you ?" Her shoulder slumped, but the next moment, the determination was back in her eyes ." Make a name for myself and people will fall at my feet. " I smiled and winked at her. "People, including Levi." She blushed a little and wrapped her hands around me. I returned the gesture and hugged her back. "Thanks, Mum. I think that's what I wanted to hear ." She whispered in my ears. "Your dress is pretty by the way." I chuckled. Immediately she jumped up and twirled. " I think I'll be in the spotlight today." She giggled. I threw the used wipes into the trash can as we both walked downstairs." the spotlight is meant for the bride and groom and that's certainly not you." She shrugged."I guess I'll have to create my spotlight." We both laughed until we got to the car. We wasted a lot of time and missed the church service. Now, we only had t

SallyI shifted closer to him and took in more of his scent. "Are you still not going to open it ?" He spoke just when I was about to drift into sleep.I knew what he was talking about. I opened my eyes, and my line of sight landed on the envelope on the bedside table. I had told him about the envelope after Dad died. I couldn't bring myself to open it after his funeral. I got up and grabbed the envelope. If I didn't do it now then it was never. "Do you want me to go .....I could just .." He insisted. "No, it's fine. I'm going to read it out loud anyway." Taking a deep breath, I opened it and began reading. My sweetheart, I should probably be dead by now. I asked Uncle Taze to give you this after my will has been read, so if you are reading this, then it means that I must have passed away. I'm writing from my hospital bed, I know that I'll get better. But if I don't then I want you to have this. I've not been a good mother to you, and I'm so sorry. I'm sorry for

  • Dark Twists    Chapter 78

Sally Dad's funeral went well. There were a lot of people and it was even broadcast on the news. I never expected to see that many people; that only proved how popular my dad was. I received hundreds of messages and letters, some from people I didn't even know. In all, it was comforting and I really appreciated their effort. My dad left a will, he gave each of the girls separate businesses. And they were to take over when they turned eighteen. As his only child and heir, I took over the remaining corporation. Cisco became president and I, the president's wife and owner of our group. I stood on the balcony watching Cisco and our girls play under the cherry tree. Winter was drawing near so the ground was partially covered in snow. Cisco said that in a few days from now, it would be too freezing to go outside, so they wanted to enjoy the time they had left. I was glad because ever since my dad died, he had managed to make us smile. Nora and Mia were r

SallyI don't know what was wrong with me. It wasn't like I wasn't aware that he cheated. It had been months since he married Pamela, almost a year even. I thought that I had gotten over it, even after he apologized. I had forgiven him...I told myself that I would let go and start over. But since my dad died, I have felt nothing but emptiness, pain and rage. I started having thoughts of just taking my children and leaving him. Letting go suddenly felt so painful and hard. I knew that I was still grieving, and maybe that was why I was feeling this way. But after hearing those things from Pamela, it opened up a fresh wound in my chest. I told myself not to let her get to me; this was what she wanted, but I just couldn't.It hurt; it hurt a lot. Other women would have divorced him no matter the situation, but why can't I just be like them and not think twice about divorcing him? Was I too stupid and blinded by my love Do I even still love him or was I doing this to s

  • Dark Twists    Chapter 76

SallyTwo weeks later, I watched as Pamela was brought to me in chains. She was chained from her hands to her legs which indicated that she was a chronic murderer. She had been sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labour, While her minions were sentenced to life imprisonment as well. What could I say, her new status befitted her. Cisco had been against my coming here. He said she already got what she deserved so there was no need for me to see her. I knew he did not want us to fight like we did when they were getting divorced. We didn't actually fight, I beat her up because she refused to sign the papers. She literally did not want to sign the divorce papers, claiming that she was being treated unfairly. It was so not like me to beat someone up; it was against my principles. I didn't even know I had the guts to beat a fellow woman up. Cisco, on the other hand, did nothing to stop me, mostly because he would receive all the blows instead of her,
