Chapter 2: She's still alive

The whole day went by with Hazel reading a book in her room, trying get her mind off the current situation. she didn't see Damien after breakfast, she guessed he was out working. She finally got tired and decided to take a stroll around the house, she was still trying to find her way around the house... it was just so huge. She wore a white flare dress that reached her knees and headed for the elevator which took her to the ground floor. This time, she let her hair lose, and it fell to her back.

Getting to the ground floor, she was once again amazed by the sight of the cozy looking living room. She walked to the dining area where she and Damien had sat and had breakfast in the morning. Noticing a door at the corner, she decided to see where it led. She opened the door, and was welcomed by a big room that had many utensils. Pots, cookers, fridges, microwaves, even a coffee machine...it was obviously a kitchen.

Walking steadily towards the coffee machine, Hazel stared at it, contemplating whether or not to make coffee for herself... she loved coffee. in the end, she had mad a hot, creamy cup for herself, and steam rose from it. She closed her eyes and inhaled, savoring the sweet aroma of coffee and milk. She was so engrossed, she didn't realize Damien had walked into the kitchen.

He paused, staring at her from afar, he had not expected her to be here. Regaining his composure, he took slow and steady steps towards her. Stopping at the counter, he stared at her, lazily blinking his eyes. She was bent In such a funny posture, inhaling the aroma of the coffee. Taking the cup of coffee, he took a sip.

Feeling something was wrong, Hazel opened her eyes only to see the tall figure standing in front of her, drinking from a cup. Shocked, she lost her balance, falling on her butt.

"Ouch! she cried without tears, rubbing her behind. Suddenly it hit her... her eyes darted back and forth between the cup in his hands and the counter.

"Ah! that's my coffee! she yelled, getting up from the floor.

Damien coolly turned to stare at her before continuing to sip from the cup, seemingly not bothered at all

"give it back!  She yelled stretching out her hand.

"Oh, but I already drank from it " Damien said, his lashes fluttering as he stared at her innocently.

"so what if you drank from it!  Hmph! she said, snatching the cup from him and taking a sip.

Damien froze and he watched her take sip after sip, occasionally licking her lips. She was so engrossed in the drink she didn't realize the figure staring at her. She looked up to see him staring at her with an unfathomable expression.

"what?!  I'm not allowed to enjoy a cup of coffee anymore? she asked

but he didn't reply, he just took a bottle of water from the fridge and walked away.

Rolling her eyes, she went washed the cup.

Soon, it was dinner time. Damien and Hazel ate in silence, and only the clink and clank of their utensils cold be heard. Hazel would steal glances at Damien from time to time. She hadn't thought about what happened in the kitchen until she was in her room earlier. She had shamelessly drank from the same cup as Damien. It was so embarrassing now that she thought about it. Her face was beet red with embarrassment as she stole glances at him.

"do you enjoy staring at me so much?  Damien asked, not looking up from his plate. he continued eating.

"Wah?

He looked up from his plate, staring seriously at her, then he repeated

"I said, do you enjoy staring at me so much?  you've been staring at me since we started eating"

Hazel Froze, she was dumbstruck. Not because he caught her, but because he had surprisingly said so much words than normal. Holy Crap! He actually said so much. Though it wasn't counted as speaking so much normally, but it did count when it came to Damien since he only replies one word to everything you say.

She chuckled unconsciously at the thought. She was lost in her thoughts she didn't realize he'd been staring intently at her. What was funny?  he thought.

Dabbing his mouth with the napkin that laid on his lap, he stood up and left, leaving Hazel alone, smiling to herself.

She soon came back to her senses only to find Damien gone. Her head darted around, looking for him, but he was already gone. She just shrugged and continued eating, stuffing her mouth with everything on the table. it was so delicious.

She ate a lot this time because she was alone.

Finishing the whole food, she slumped on the chair, patting her belly as she groaned.

She headed to her room to change... maybe she would feel better in some loose clothes. But after minutes, her tummy was still not okay, so she decided to take a walk. Getting out of her room,  she walked slowly across the narrow hallway.

Just as she was passing, she noticed one of the doors was slightly open. The door creaked as she slowly pushed it open. She walked in and closed the door behind her. It was just an empty, dusty room...it looked like it had not been cleaned for a while now. There was only a grand piano sitting at the side of the room with a chair along with it. walking towards it, her fingers lazily struck the keys, making music. She smiled. Deciding to play something, she wiped the chair and the piano with her white colored handkerchief.

She just felt this pain in her heart that she wanted to let out. Striking some keys, she played the chords of a song that was buried deep in her heart as she sang along.

"I can still remember yesterday ...

we were in love in a special way...

And knowing that you loved me made me feel, oh, so right...

But now I feel lost...

I don't know what to do...

Each and every day, I think of you...

Holding back the tears...

I'm trying with all my might...

Because I know I'll leave you...

Standing all alone...

And I know I've got to face the truth...

But baby before I go...

I want to say I love you...

Hope that you're listening...

Cos it's true baby...

you'll be forever in my heart... "

Her thin fingers danced across the piano, hitting the keys as she sang the last melody. A tear ran down her cheek. She didn't know why, but she felt like the words matched what she was feeling...what was this feeling?

Standing up, she felt better. She headed for her room where she read a book until she fell asleep.

*Damien's POV*

I stared at her sitting on that chair. She looked angelic. Her skin seemed to be glowing and her hair was let loose, long and silky. I felt pain in my heart as I listened to the song she was playing. Those were words I never wanted to hear, but she had reminded me. My heart ached more as I listened to her. Her brain might have forgotten, but her heart didn't. Feeling the heaviness in my chest, I wanted to shout out loud, but I couldn't... I just wanted to get far away from her.

*Narrator's pov*

Damien closed the door behind him as he walked away, the music fading away.

He sat in his study room with a glass in his hand. He looked pale. His eyes looked swollen from crying, and his lips were red from the wine he had been drinking. He twirled the glass in his hand indifferently as he stared into space.

The knock on the door pierced through his ears, snapping him out of his thoughts.

"come in" he said, his eyes resting on the glass in his hand.

A man came in just as the door creaked open. He seemed to be in his mid twenties, just like Damien. You could pass them off as age mates. While Damien had jet black hair, his hair was blonde, and his skin was paler than Damien's.

He was dressed in a white long sleeves T-shirt and black pants... Something Damien wouldn't wear. Damien was an all black person.

"Sir" Lucas called out, bowing his head

"Speak" Damien replied, twirling the glass in his hand indifferently as he stared at it

"They're currently keeping an eye for any movement, Sir"

"Do they have a lead on where she is yet?

"No, Sir... but they know she's still alive"

"Make sure they don't find out anything else" Damien said, placing the empty glass on the table, giving off a deadly aura. He would not let them find out.

"Yes, Sir" Lucas said before turning to leave.
