Chapter 6: Damien smiled

The sunlight peeked through the space between the curtains, casting thin rays onto her face. She stared on the bed as she rubbed her bleary eyes, groaning. Opening her eyes, she stared up at the white ceiling, recollecting the event that happened yesterday.

Putting the thoughts aside, she took a bath and got dressed in a black oversized long sleeve t-shirts and black cargo pants. She tied her hair up into a messy bun and headed to the ground floor where she sat on the table waiting for breakfast to be served. Soon, breakfast was served, and Damien was nowhere to be found. He must have went to work by now, she thought.

Picking up the utensils, Hazel began to eat . She wondered what she could do for him...a mere thank you was definitely not enough. Racking her brain for ideas, she decided to cook for him. He would've gotten hungry by lunch time. She would ask Arman to take her to the Gray industries.

Finally done eating, she dabbed her mouth with a napkin and headed for the kitchen where she began her task for the day.

By the time she was done, it was already afternoon.

She prepared a couple of dishes and some dessert. She didn't know his favorite, so she just prepared anything that came to her mind.

Staring at her handiwork, she smiled, feeling pleased. Sweat tickled down her forehead which she wiped with the back of her hand.

Freshening up, she got dressed in a knee length off shoulder flare dress and then tied her hair up into a messy bun. She dabbed her face with a little powder and applied a strawberry flavored lip gloss.

Finally dressed, she headed to the Gray industries.

Staring at the huge building, Hazel took a deep breath before walking in, carrying the basket.

Walking in, she was stopped by the receptionist dressed in a formal attire. She was average height with red hair and brown eyes

"How can I help you, ma'am? She asked as she scanned hazel from head to toe

Turning to look at the woman, Hazel smiled slightly

" umm...I'm here to see Damien Gray " she replied

Damien Gray, the receptionist thought. Did this woman know who Damien Gray was?

How could she just say his name like that?

"Do you have an appointment with him?

" No, but you could just tell him it's Hazel... I'm sure he knows me" Hazel said, smiling slightly

Snorting, she stared at hazel degradingly. She was probably one of those women who come to seek favour from the boss, the receptionist thought.

"You can't see him without an appointment"

"you could just tell him it's Hazel...he knows me...I really won't take much of his time" Hazel tried to persuade the woman, but she wasn't having it. In the end, she had returned to the Gray mansion feeling dejected. If only she had a phone, she'd have called Damien to inform him she was at his company. That bully had left her without a way to contact him.

Returning home, Damien freshened up and went down for Dinner, hoping to see Hazel, but she never came down for Dinner.

He stared expectantly at the stairs She mostly loved using the stairs.

Noticing the look in Damien's eyes despite his cold demeanor, Yara stared at him with light in her eyes.

Sir" yara called out, bowing

Turning, he stared at her, waiting for her to speak.

"Madam had went to bed early" She finally said.

Waving his hand, Yara left.

Picking up his utensils, Damien ate in silence, seemingly not bothered by her absence.

Done eating, He headed to his room.

The next day, Damien left for work early as always. Reaching the company, he overhead some employees talking, it had piqued his interest.

"A woman came looking for the Boss? One of them asked in surprised

" So I heard, but Julian had humiliated her by sending her away"

"You think it might be his woman?

One of them asked

"Probably. She was dressed simply tho. Nothing special. But I heard she had a basket with her"

"The boss is so handsome, who wouldn't fall for him.She even brought him a gift from her heart" one if the women said, squealing.

They hadn't noticed Damien all the while.

"A woman came looking for me yesterday?

Damien asked, his eyes narrowing at the woman standing opposite him as he sat in his chair.

" Yes...yes, sir...She said her name was Hazel, but I figured she was one of those gold diggers so I sent her away" She said, hoping to make the boss proud of her.

"Did you tell me about it first? Damien asked, his eyes cold as ice as he stared at her. She stood frozen to the spot, scared by his oddly calm demeanor despite the coldness in his eyes.

Not waiting for a reply, he said...

" You're fired"

"Sir, please" She begged, a tear running down her cheek

"I need it to provide for myhelf and my brother" She continued, sobbing uncontrollably but Damien paid her no heed.

He ordered the guards to kick her out, no one is allowed to mess with his things...especially not people he loves.

Getting home from work, he changed into a simple black Long sleeve t-shirt and head to Her room. Knocking on the door, he heard her affirm to go in. Pushing the door open, he walked in, taking slow and steady steps towards the chair she sat in...she was reading a book.

"May I disturb you? His voice pierced through her ears, jolting her. She stared at him, her mouth agape as he stood there, smiling faintly.

It was the first time she saw him smile, and she had to admit... It was really beautiful.

Shaking her head to get rid of the thoughts, she stared speechlessly at him.

Not waiting for her to reply, he placed something on the table, and then turned around, his footsteps fading away as he closed the door behind him.

What was that all about? She asked herself.

Staring down at the table, she picked up the phone he had left. Turning it on, she found a number had been saved in it...must be his, she thought, her lips curling up into a smile. Damien smiled.
