Tiffany’s POV

My palms were damp and my heart beat loudly as Andy drove us to his family home. I was anxious, partly because I didn’t know what to expect, but mostly because of the conversation I’d had with Rosie that afternoon.

She called me when I got back to my clinic.

“Sorry I haven’t called you earlier, Tiff, my day has been crazy.” She said breathlessly. “About Tim, turns out he fell really sick that evening and had to be taken to hospital. Doctors suspect appendicitis. So he’s out for now, but don’t worry, I’ll find you someone before the wedding.”

“Thanks, but it won’t be nessecery.”

“Don’t tell me you’re giving up?”

“No. I’ve found someone already.”

“Who? When? How?” She asked rapidly.

“Andy Harris.” I said reluctantly.

She reacted just the way I knew she would. Squealing, laughing, and talking a mile a minute. As usual I had to shout to be heard.

“Calm down! We aren’t getting married. It's just a fake date. Untill we both get want we want.”

“But what’s wrong if you were? You both look cute together.”

“Not a chance. I have not, and will not forgive his crimes in high school. I'm only going through with this because the stupid paparazzi forced me to.”

“You said you’re fake dating?” She asked.

“Yeah.” I told her about the deal.

“I don’t know Tiff, are you sure it’s going to be that easy to back out? What if you end up falling in love with him? And vice versa?”

“Not happening. The only feeling I’ll ever feel for that Neanderthal is hate.”

But now as I sat beside him, I didn’t really feel the usual hate, if anything I felt excited, as if I was really going with my fiancée to meet his parents. And judging from the way he’d looked at me, I had a feeling he was feeling something too. My eyes drifted to his groin and I pretended not to know what the bulge there was. But I couldn’t help noticing how big it was.

How did it look without clothes? I thought.

Focus Tiffany! He's the enemy, remember?

Andy broke the awkward silence.

“We better get out stories straight before we get there.”

I nodded in agreement .

“First I’ll give you an idea of what to expect. There’s my bitchy stepmom Glenn, my asshole half brother Justin, and his nasty wife Kelly. Don’t be fooled by their smiles, they’re all hateful jerks who love –“

“Making your life miserable.” I finished for him. “Say no more, I have such demons in my family.”

He smiled a little. “Guess we are more alike than we think.”

“Guess so.” I smiled back.

We realized we were smiling at each other and quickly stopped.

Andy began telling me our cover story and I listened intently. Finally we arrived at Chestnut Hill, where the family mansion was located.

A maid let us in. Glenn, Kelly, and Justin were In the luxurious living room. Glenn gave me a hug as I came in.

“So nice to finally meet you.” She smiled. “You look beautiful. Dinner is almost ready. I made a special dish just for you.”

I smiled politely, but I wasn’t fooled. I’d been around too many snakes not to recognize a viper.

“Nice to finally meet you. Tiffany right?” Justin said, shaking my hand. “Wait, Tiffany Baxter? We were in high school together, remember?”

“Sure I do. You were on the tennis team.”

“And you used to show what a dumbass Andy was.” He laughed.

Andy frowned, and I looked uncomfortable.

Justin hadn’t changed much since high school. His brown hair and eyes were the same, and he wasn’t as tall as Andy, or as good looking, but he was still well dressed. His suit looked expensive. Kelly smiled politely at me, but her dislike was clear in her dark blue eyes.

“Andy, with your reputation how did you bag this beauty? Or did you hide your ugly past from her?” Justin smirked.

“Tiffany knows all about me and she’s very comfortable about it.” Andy snapped.

“I doubt that. She’s human. Only an animal would be comfortable with your lifestyle.”

Kelly laughed lightly. Andy’s jaw tightened. I tensed, wondering if I should get ready for a fist fight, at that moment Andy’s dad, Jake Harris walked in.

“Andy you’re here. And this must be your fiancee? She’s beautiful.” He looked me over in admiration, I blushed in embarrassment.

“Thank you Mr. Harris, it’s nice to finally meet you too. Andy has told me a lot about you.” I said smoothly.

“Yet nothing about you. How about we change that over dinner?” He said.

“Goid idea, everyone to the dining room.” Glenn announced, leading the way.

Behind me I heard Jake say to Andy,

“Good job son, you're definitely going to be Harrisco CEO.”

Justin heard it too. I saw his jaw clench in anger.

I took a deep breath and braced myself for an awkward family dinner.

Tiffany’s POV “You’re scared of heights?” Andy asked skeptically. “Yes I am. And if you’d bothered to ask, you’d have known that.” “But in high school I remembered you once climbed an elm tree to retrieve my jacket.” He reminded me. “That was because you would have gotten into trouble without the jacket.” I snapped. He looked surprised. “You hated heights but climbed anyway because of me?” I felt like a deer caught in the headlights. “No. Of course not. I climbed to prove a point. You said I couldn’t, so I wanted to prove I could.” “Really?” He smirked. “Yes. Really. And don’t change the subject. I'm not going hot air balloon riding tomorrow.” “Please Tiffany, Aunt June loves it and wants us to join her.” “Tell her to forget it. Courtesy demands you should have asked me first.” He sighed. “You’re right. I’m sorry. Please would you come? It’ll be good for our happy couple image.” I rolled my eyes in exasperation. “If I get air sick I’ll do it down your shirt

Tiffany’s POV Andy looked confused. “I don’t know –“ he stopped. “You don’t?” I asked skeptically. “Actually I do. Bethany was in the car this afternoon-“ “Is that so?” I asked coldly. “Look it’s not what you think. I met her outside my office and she asked for a lift, so I dropped her off. Nothing else happened.” “Yet you didn’t think to tell me, and probably won’t have told me if I hadn’t found this here?” “I would, it just slipped my mind.” “What else slipped your mind? The hotel room you both got?” I spat. His eyes widened in embarrassment. “We didn’t get a hotel room. I just gave her a lift. There’s nothing going on between us.” “I don’t care. Just remember she’s no different from Justin, whatever she’s up to it isn’t good.” “I told you I just gave her a ride. Nothing else.” "Whatever.” I said and stepped out of the car. “Let me walk you to your apartment.” “I can find my way.” I snapped. I walked into my apartment, still mad. This was the second ti

Tiffany's POV The auction began and I looked around, wondering who would bid on the sculpture I'd fallen in love with. “Are you bidding?” I asked Andy. “No, why do you ask?” “Nothing. Just wondering if you wanted to acquire something, like that sculpture.” I said, pointing to it. He grimaced. “Why the hell would I want such a thing?” “Because it’s beautiful.” He laughed. “It has teeth, sure you’d find it beautiful.” “It is.” He kept laughing. “Go to hell.” I hissed, turning away from him. I should have known he’d be an ass about it. “I need water, do you need anything?” He asked. “Yes. For you to jump off a bridge.” I snapped. Grinning, he walked out. The bidding continued. I occasionally caught Kelly, Glenn, and Justin giving me smug glancing and I shifted uncomfortably in my seat. Andy came back as bidding for the sculpture I’d been eyeing was about to start. But to my surprise it stopped abruptly. We were told It had been bought by a pers

Tiffany’s POV At work the next day I couldn’t stop thinking about last night, when Andy had walked me to my door. He’d almost kissed me, I was sure of it, and I smiled whenever I thought of it. “You’re imagining things,” a part of my mind whispered to me, "you hate him, remember?” I would have said yes, but now I wasn’t so sure, especially now I could see how sincere he was in keeping the promises he’d made last night. My thoughts were interrupted by Lynn announced Fred was here to see me. “What? Why?” I demanded. “He won’t say.” I wanted to tell her to ask him to leave, but changed my mind. “Send him in.” Let me see what he wants, I thought. “Hey Tiffany, you look great, as usual.” He said walking in. “What do you want Fred?” I asked angrily. “To see you, why are you mad?” “Because I don’t want to see you." “Please hear me out.” “Start talking.” “It would be a lot better if we could go somewhere and talk. Please Tiffany.” “If you thin

Andy’s POV I waited nearly ten minutes before Tiffany joined me in the car. As usual she looked beautiful in a green evening dress. But I also noticed she looked worried. “Everything okay? You’re unusually late.” I said. “Everything is fine.” She murmured. “Are you sure? You look worried. Did that jerk Fred Castle bother you?” She raised her eyebrows at me. “Jealous?” She asked. “Of him? No. Of course not.” “You sound jealous.” She said, smiling mischievously. “Well I’m not. I just want to know why you looked worried. This meeting is too important for you to be distracted by anything.” “So your concern for me is because of the meeting?” “Sure. What else?” Liar! A small voice screamed at me, but I ignored it. She glared at me. “Good, because I don’t need your concern.” She said. “But something is on your mind,” I said softly, “tell me.” “I”m just a little nervous. I’ve a reputation to protect. I don’t want this job to ruin it.” “How?” “I

“I can’t believe this,” Cynthia exclaimed, “so the bitch is truly dating Andy Harris?” “I thought she was lying, especially since she kept postponing the dinner.” Sophia sighed. “This is so disappointing. I was hoping for a chance to make fun of her.” It was a Wednesday morning and the four women, Cynthia, Sophia, Penny, and Bethany were in the Baxter mansion discussing Tiffany’s visit. “The engagement may not even be real,” Bethany put in. “I know they hated each other in high school. Andy won’t date Tiffany unless he was paid.” “Maybe she’s paying him to pretend to be her boyfriend.” Sophia suggested. “With what? Platinum?” Cynthia asked sarcastically. “Andy Harris is Jake Harris’s son. They’re worth billions. What does that wretch have to offer him?” “She managed to open a clinic. She may be doing better than we thought. Which isn’t fair. She was supposed to be miserable.” Bethany pouted. “She will be, I promise you I’ll make sure this happily ever after is over fast.
