Chapter Ten

We just stood in silence for a moment. For the first time in a long time, I was at a loss of what to do. Vampires usually chose their mates, none of this fate nonsense. Oh, but she was beautiful. I could feel the pull strongly, but not nearly as strong as she must be feeling it.

She cleared her throat.

“Hi. My name is Ruthie.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you Ruthie.” I said as monotone as I could. The last thing I wanted to do was lead her on. This must be a mistake. I was here for one reason and one reason only, and that was to make sure Becca was well taken care of.

“Pardon my ignorance, But do...do you...” She stumbled to find the words. She wanted to know if I felt it too.

“Yes, Vampires can feel the pull. Although I’d wager you’re feeling it a lot stronger than I am.”

Her emotions shifted from adoration to anxiety. She was scared I was going to reject her. The thought had definitely crossed my mind, but the thought of causing her pain didn't sit well with me.
