B. NEW YORK - 1

I feel a strange thing with my body. Like something stuck to my face. My legs feel stiff even to move my toes. I try to open my eyes slowly, even though it feels heavy.

I can see the light from the ceiling. But somehow it was shining brightly. Even though I turned off my lights while going to sleep.

“Call Mr. Min Junho,” exclaimed a woman who seemed to be beside me. Strangely she uses English.

My eyes finally opened wide. I can feel and see there is a breathing apparatus attached to my nose.

Am I dreaming? Certainly. This may be the effect of an accident I've been in. The image of being treated in the hospital still filled my mind even when I was in my subconscious. I heard the sound of the door opening loudly and several shoe steps sounded.

“Is it true she has awakened?” asked someone like a man to the woman beside me.

My head still feels heavy to move, so I just squinted my eyes trying to find the origin of the sound. But no need, because the man is approaching my bed and I can see his face.

Feels strange and foreign. That was my first impression. I felt like I had never seen him. Then who is he?

“Kim Hana,” exclaimed the man, looking at me.

Does my name change when I dream?

“You finally woke up after a long time,” said the man holding my right-hand tight. Just like that woman, he also speaks English.

I work as a translator and have majored in English literature, making me familiar with the language spoken by both of them. I tried moving my left hand. After several attempts, I was finally able to lift it. Immediately I took off my breathing apparatus which was then assisted by a woman who seemed to be standing beside me.

This man is still holding my hand. The look on his face was sad and happy. But strangely he did not smile.

“Who are you?” I asked in English too. I try to adapt even in a dream.

The man looked dumbfounded as if my question was something he never expected to hear. “What happened to her?” asked him then turned to stare at the woman beside me again.

Meanwhile, I looked around the room. The size of the hospital room I occupy may be like my apartment. An exclusive room that cost will be very expensive for one night, if you are in Seoul.

“Miss Kim Hana, can't you remember anything?” asked the woman to change her position standing in front of me.

I can see the white robe she wore. Indicates that she is a doctor.

I smile. “It's not like I don't remember, it's just transitory,” I said thinking that everything was just a dream.

The man frowned in confusion. “Kim Hana, tell me if you really can't remember or there are parts of your body that hurt?” he asked worriedly.

I try to sit down. Even though it was hard at first, I managed to do it.

“You know that you are in a coma, don't you?” asked the man looking at me.

I nodded. “Of course, I was in a coma for two years, right?”

The man shook his head. “Four years.”

I laughed softly thinking about how funny dreams really are. Things change irregularly, even with regard to reality.

I wiped my hair back but it felt smooth. Then grabbed it and it wasn't choppy like before. I have slightly wavy hair, not straight. Even the color that was previously brown has turned black.

“Can you give me a mirror?” I begged.

The woman then took out something from the pocket of her doctor's coat. “Use mine.”

I looked at my unchanging face. But somehow it feels foreign. Although the shape and color of my hair have changed, there are things that are different.

I turned to stare at the large, draped window. “Can you open the blinds?” I asked again.

This time a man wearing a black suit opened it for me. I also realized that behind the man who was still holding my hand were three other men wearing black suits.

I noticed something, that my room was on the top floor. Looking out the window of some skyscrapers that don't seem like they are in Seoul. An atmosphere that looks like abroad.

“Where is this?”

“New York.”

I covered my surprised mouth with my two hands. Make the hand that was grasped to be released naturally.

“How did I get here? From South Korea,” I muttered more to myself.

I try to catch my breath. I looked around once again, especially the man who sat beside me who seemed to never take his eyes off of me.

This felt too real for a dream. I raised my hands and looked at him. What happens to me?

“Min Junho,” I remembered that the female doctor had asked Mr. Min Junho to be called.

“Do you remember me Kim Hana?” asked the man who seemed rightly named Min Junho excitedly.

“Kim Hana, my name is Kim Hana?”

I'm really confused, so shocked now. I want to wake up soon and tried to pinch my cheek, but only the pain I felt.

“Doctor, what's wrong with her?”

Min Junho sounded worried about my behavior, so I stopped before thinking I was crazy.

“What time is it now?” I asked, wanting to confirm something.

“One o'clock in the afternoon,” replied the doctor after checking the clock on his cell phone.

“Can you check what time it is in Seoul now?” I asked.

The doctor seemed to raise an eyebrow and then looked at Min Junho. But I saw that he just nodded his head as a sign for the doctor to comply.

“Two in the morning,” replied the doctor.

My brain is digesting. what is going on? That means I fell asleep for two hours and dreamed afterward.

“Don't tell me it's the twelfth of July 2019?,” I asked, trying to remember today's date.

“Right, that's today's date.”

This time it was Min Junho who answered. I took a deep breath and then wet my lower lip. Anxious immediately climbed into my body. What really happened?

“I think you need further treatment,” said Min Junho, holding my shoulder.

I shook my head. “I don't think I'm Kim Hana,” I said and then tried to leave the bed. But my feet seemed numb and I fell.

Min Junho then lifted me back up the bed. “You were in a coma for four years, you need therapy to walk normally,” he said.

My eyes started to water. This is too absurd and too far from being a dream. But it is common if there are shocking things happening in dreams, don't we automatically wake up? Then when you fell earlier why didn't it happen?

“Calm down Kim Hana, you'll be fine. You may be confused because four years passed just in bed,” said Jun holding my face.

I can see his beaded eyes. I have to admit that Min Junho is a very handsome guy. But I shouldn't think about it now.

“What is your relationship with me?” I asked, making him let go of his hand on my cheek and take a step back.

“I am your husband.”

My eyes widened. Now everything is so absurd and turned into a situation I've never experienced.

I'm Lee Umji, who has never dated before, then turned into a married women with the name Kim Hana.

Wait, if the time and date are the same and different only places. Is my soul residing in someone else's body?

No, my face hasn't changed. But having the same face even though you are not siblings also happens a lot of right?

“You are my wife, Kim Hana.”

I really don't know about everything. After several doctors came from various specialist fields to examine me. I was taken to the further examination room and returned to my original ward.

Min Junho always accompanies me like a husband who accompanies his wife. Even today.

“Kim Hana, I want you to focus on recovery first. Don't think about anything at this time, even about the problems that existed in the past,” Jun said holding my hand again.

It felt strange and foreign when the skin touched Min Junho's hand. That strange feeling seemed to strengthen that I was Lee Umji who was trapped in the body of a Kim Hana.

Time is running like in South Korea. It's totally different if you dream that always jumps in time and space. I chose silence. Asking questions would make a Kim Hana look like she had forgotten memories and it would be hard to accept the truth if I told him the truth.

“I want to rest,” I said to Min Junho.

"Okay."

Min Junho got up from the seat beside me and then came out of the room. Leave me alone. After about thirty minutes of closing my eyes, I couldn't fall asleep even though I had injected some medicine in my infusion.

I opened my eyes again and sit down. Then I changed my position sideways, ready to stand up. I glanced at the door worried if Min Junho came in and saw me.

My feet touch the floor. I tried to strengthen my feelings as Lee Umji who can walk normally. And it worked. I can stand without holding anything.

Slowly my feet stepped towards the window pane. I looked up at the view from above. The hustle and bustle of New York was clearly in front of me. Too real and structured if it's just a dream.

I really realized that Kim Hana was not a fake thing. She is a woman just like me. Then where is her soul? So, I  was trapped in her body.

The open door makes me turn around. Bring out Jun and a woman who is dressed very fashionable. They both looked surprised to see me.

“Kim Hana,” exclaimed the woman closer to me.

I looked at her. Confused what to say. I don't even know her name. “You just came?” I asked as if questioning its existence when I was aware.

The woman was crying. “I really couldn't believe that a miracle happened until Min Junho called me and said that you were sober.”

“Kim Hana, I'm sorry,” continued the woman cupped her hands.

Min Junho drew closer to the two of us. His gaze turned sharp. “You've met and apologized. Now go away.”

The woman's expression turned to annoyance and anger. “You can't just kick me out Min Jinho. I need to explain everything to Kim Hana about why Hansung went there that night.”

I can see the head of Min Junho's hand. Realizing that there are problems in Kim Hana's life. Can't I get out of all my problems? Even my life is tiring too.

“No! Kim Hana needs to rest.”

After saying firmly, Jun without saying anything immediately lifted my body in bridal style and then carried me to the bed.

“Fine, but I'll be back here. See you later Kim Hana.”

Finally, the woman left and Min Junho was still standing next to me. Looking at me deeply, but I felt that the look in his eyes was not anger, but regret and fear?

I tried to close my eyes again. Thinking of the best way out of this problem, this body and everything goes dark.
