11: There's no going back

IN THE MANSION

LAURA P.O.V.

We returned and Margaret immediately greeted us at the door.

"Hello." she smiled at us.

"Hello, Margaret."

"Dinner is ready. I made it especially for you."

"Actually, I'm not hungry. I'll go up to my office." Richard said and left.

I bowed my head.

I didn't know why I felt this guilt.

He was a criminal.

"What is up with him?" Margaret asked anxiously.

We went to the kitchen, made tea and sat down.

Then I told her I had tried to escape.

She didn't reproach me.

She even said she understood me.

I didn't have to feel guilty for trying to save myself.

I didn't feel such guilt.
