 Chapter 1

“IT WAS NICE TO FINALLY MEET YOU, Ms. Vasiliev.” The Chairman of the Perfecto Security Company said as they shook each other’s hands for a second. She just closed a deal between the company she’s been handling and to the security company who wants to merge with them.

She needed the most successful and trusted security company globally. Though she don’t give her trust easily, at least the background of the company and so as the people working on it are trustworthy and has clean record.

They wouldn’t like what she can do if they try to betray her. She’s Elizabeth Stheno Vasiliev, the owner of the Emerald Empire, daughter of the most dangerous businessman and drug baron in Russia. No one would dare to mess with her.

“Prepare all the documents and files that I have to sign, Mr. Donovan, and let your secretary send it to my villa.” She said in a matter of fact as she bid goodbye and left the company.

“MOMMY, do we really have to go back to the Philippines?” They are currently in their room, packing their clothes and some important things that they have to bring.

They are living in a six unit condominium, far away from her company and to her father’s mansion, for about seven years. Her father offered her to live in the mansion but she declined. Her son might be exposed to her father’s illegal deeds. Her son is still young and innocent but too smart to understand what’s going on. She's been helping her father's illegal business for almost seven years because of the favor she owed to him.

“Di ba napag-usapan na natin ito, ‘nak?” she replied in a sweet voice. Tinapos niya ang pag-iimpake ng mga gamit niya at ng sa anak niya bago niya hinarap ang anak niya na ngayon ay nakatingin sa kanya, waiting for her to explain.

“Look, Ala, remember when I told you that I owe your Grandpa a very big favor?” tanong niya habang sinusuklay ang mahabang buhok ng anak. Her son nodded to her question and listened wholefully.

“He told me to make a deal with someone in the Philippines and I have to work hard to make it successfully. Hindi naman kita pwedeng iwan dito… you know how dangerous this place is, Ala.”

"And besides, your papa Greg misses you so much. Don't you miss him?"

"Of course, I do! But… you said that my father is there.”

She caressed her son’s cheek and smiled reassuringly. “Don’t worry, ‘nak. Are you doubting Mommy’s ability?”

She hugged him back and rubbed her son’s back.

“I will protect you, ‘nak. I won’t let that jerk get near to you or even know your existence.”

AS ELIZABETH stepped out from their private plane, she smiled bitterly as the memory of the past came into her mind. Her personal bodyguard took care of their luggages at maingat iyong inilagay sa likod ng sasakyan.

She let out an exhausted sigh when she sat in the shotgun seat while her son sat on the passenger seat.

“Yes, ‘nak?” she asked and gave a gentle smile to her son.

“Are we going to live in Papa Greg’s house?” her son asked innocently.

“Nope, ‘nak. Mommy bought a subdivision few meters away from your Papa Greg’s house,” sagot niya.

“But I can visit him, right? May bodyguards naman tayo, and I can protect myself too against bad people, Mommy.”

“You can?” She asked, teasingly. “And who taught you to protect yourself… physically?”

“When you’re not around, Ate Enid taught me how to defend myself. Like hitting the weaknesses and special nerves of the enemy but first, we have to think like a genius before we imply the move.”

She didn’t know Enid taught her son those kinds of things. Enid worked as a medic in the Empire, though she was trained in more than just healing, making her dangerous.

But then, maybe it's for her son's awareness.

"So, Mom? Pinapayagan mo na ako?" her son asked, making her sigh in defeat.

"Ano pa ba ang magagawa ko?" She said and her son smiled widely.

Kahit halos pitong taon silang nanirahan sa ibang bansa, she taught her son to speak in Filipino. But whenever she's busy for almost a month, going to business trips, meetings, and other activities related to business, hindi niya namamalayang ginagawa na palang libangan ng anak niya ang pag-aaral ng iba't-ibang lenggwahe that even her can't understand.

She have such an amazing son at nagpapasalamat siya at naiintindihan nito ang pagiging busy niya. Not all children can understand the sacrifices of a parent has made. And she's thankful that her son is an understanding one.

Great, just great. And as the owner of the company, she has to show up.

“Ms. Vasiliev, there’s someone who wants to see you personally…” halata ang kaba sa boses nito kaya pinatigil niya ito sa pagsasalita.

She removed her aviators and looked at her secretary from the eyes. “Hope, chill. Take a deep breath before talking.”

She never shows herself up to her employees in the Philippines or even in other countries.

Hope took a deep breath before talking. “Ms. Vasiliev, there’s this person who wants to see you and threatens me that if you don’t show up, he will sue the company…”

She sighed in boredom. “For what reason?” she asked.

She taps her secretary’s right shoulder. She smiled warmly at her.

“Come on, bring me to that person and let’s see what kind of guts he has.”

Even though this branch is just an extension of her company, malaki at successful naman ang mga shares at income nito. But this isn’t the first time that someone wanted to sue them. Sanay na siya sa mga issueng iyon. And of course, no one can bring her empire down. Maybe someone will dare but they can't.

She shrugged and walked with poise towards the man wearing a business suit and prepared her smile.

“Good afternoon, Sir. My secretary told me about your certain issue, so I came here to settle this down. I don’t want this simple matter to become big.” She stretched her hands to offer a professional handshake to the man who’s wearing a black ray-ban sunglasses and a black mask, covering the half of his face.

The man stood up, making her look up.

“Let me formally introduce myself to you.” She smiled professionally. “I am—“

“Eliza Villanueva… nice seeing you again, my love.”

16Parang nabingi si Alaister sa sinabi ni Elizabeth. Nilukob ng katahimikan ang buong lugar. The sound of the waves didn’t matter anymore. It seems like she had just spoken a language that he couldn’t understand. And suddenly, everything makes no sense anymore. Not the sea around them, the silence between them, and even the image of his father he had looked up his whole life.He opened his mouth, but no words came out. Elizabeth’s voice, though calm and controlled, felt like a cold blade, piercing through his chest. “Sinubukan ko namang kalimutan yon e, I tried counseling. Meeting different psychiatrists and psychologists. For years, I tried living through those painful memories. I kept convincing myself that it didn’t happen. Na baka bangungot lang ‘yon. Na baka makakalimutan ko rin ‘yon. But I just can’t.” Her voice cracked.“But how do you forget the smell of the burning flesh, Alaister? The screams of your

15“WHERE’S MY DAUGHTER, Leon? I told you to keep an eye to her.” May pag-aalalang mababakas sa boses ni Leonid. Elizabeth has been off grid for days. She was untraceable. The last place she was still on the grid was on her house, and it stopped there. “Sorry, sire. I lost track.” Tipid na sagot ni Leon, looking down.Leonid clicked his tongue. “Any updates on the General?”“He's been hunting and tracing Elizabeth down for days but didn’t succeed.” Leonid turned his swivel chair and faced Leon, one of his empire’s most treasured and skilled people. He grew up in the empire, his parents got killed also by someone in the government. Leonid trained him and equipped him with all he knew. Looking at the man in front of him, it seems like he’s looking at a man with a lot of secrecy. He watched him grow pero parang ibang tao na ang kaharap niya ngayon. He can feel Leon is hiding something.“You’re like a son to me, Leon. Don’t ever disappoint me.” Makahulugang sabi niya dito. Leon didn’

14ELIZABETH was stirred from her sleep when she heard a noise. The sun is already high, rays spilling through the windows and dancing on the floor. Judging by its brightness and hotness, it was already afternoon. Yesterday's talk with Alaister made her mind shut down on its own. Her body finally gave in to exhaustion—mental, emotional, and physical. She blinked and stared at the door, trying to remember her bearings. The slight rocking of the yacht reminded her that she was still at the sea, in the middle of nowhere, with Alaister. Moments later, the sound came again. It's not that loud but her ears are trained to hear even the slightest noise. Her muscles are slightly sore from her deep sleep and maybe from her awkward posture. She slowly stood up and walked.Naglakad siya palabas ng kwarto ng nakapaa. Sinundan niya kung saan nanggagaling ang tunog. Walang ingay siyan

13DAY ONE of sailing to nowhere with Alaister is quite calming but the worry kept resurfacing in her chest. She stared at the sea for a long time, feeling the breeze of the air hitting gently on her face. So calming. No land. No noise. No signal. Only the waves gently rocking the yacht as if cradling her into a temporary peace. The first day with Alaister was bearable. Quiet. Distant. It's obvious that he's giving her some space after that little talk. Alaister didn’t attempt to ask or pry. He’s been keeping his distance to her, she can tell. It was only them in the yacht. Alaister is the captain himself. No maids or any workers, just them. Hindi niya din tinanong kung saan sila papunta, all she knew is that they’re in the middle of the sea. Thinking about the situation, if Alaister is really being honest of him protecting her against his father, that would be a relief but if not and this was all just a trap, then she really is in danger. But everything is calculated and expected,

  • Dealing with the Ruthless Mafia   CHAPTER 12

12 ALAISTER woke up early, feeling happy and satisfied, seeing Elizabeth laying down beside him, wrapping her arm around his waist. This is the best day of his life, he can say. It’s been years since he last experience this kind of happiness. And that was with Elizabeth. Only her can make him feel that way. His happiness was replaced by worry seeing Elizabeth's calm state. What if she leaves me again? “Of course she’ll leave me, there’s nothing important about me for her to stay.” He took a deep breath and calm his nerves. Negativity is slowly eating his whole being. But a bad lu

It's already 12 PM! She took a bath, brush her teeth, and wear something comfortable before going out from the cabin. Her feet automatically walks towards the kitchen only seeing Alaister preparing the table for the two of them. "Anong ginagawa mo?" Anong
