Two days later
Maybelline Walter POV"Did I do the right thing?" Again, I asked myself after I stepped out of the car that had just driven into Mr. Miles's mansion. I was finally moving in with him today after I signed the marriage contract yesterday, but I guess even if I wanted to change my mind, it would be too late. I mean, I already signed the contract so there was no going back for me now."This way, Miss," The driver's voice disrupted my thoughts and I turned to find him already carrying my suitcase."Oh, okay," He led the way while I trailed behind him.Again, I took my time to check the beautiful house out and I didn't expect less from him, anyway. It was my second time of being here yet I couldn't still get enough of the place."You are here, ma'am?" Mr. Miles's maid, a young lady in her late thirties walked up to me with a warm smile on her face."I will take it from here," She went to collect my suitcase from the driver, then turned to me and smiled again."Mr. Miles asked me to take you to your room and make sure you feel at home when you arrive," She said to me in the kindest voice she could use, and I pulled a puzzled look. It was Monday today, so I didn't expect to have found him at home, anyway."Mr. Miles had an urgent trip to Texas, so he left this morning. He'll be back by tomorrow or next. He said he would call you," She explained to me, and I sighed briefly in relief."Come with me. I will take you to your room," She uttered then walked toward the staircase with my suitcase while I trailed behind her.We walked down the walkway upstairs and she stopped in front of the second room by our right-hand side. She unlocked it with a pass card then pushed the door open and walked inside."Here is your room, ma'am. I will come back and arrange your things here when you are convenient with it," She said to me politely after she left my suitcase in the room."Call me if you need anything," She bowed slightly and finally walked away while I stared at her until she was out of my sight. All the time she was talking I didn't know what to reply to her with, so I just stared.A familiar cologne graced me as soon as I walked into the room that looked like a master's bedroom."Why am I here?" I mumbled as I looked around the room, and the outline of it already explained to me that it was really a master's bedroom, but that wasn't the problem actually. The room looked like one that had been used or was being used by a man. It couldn't be Mr. Miles's room, right? Although we were married, it was a contract stuff, and no way he would ask us to share a room, right?I brushed my thoughts away and went ahead to arrange my clothes in the second closet in the room since the first one was tightly locked. I didn't want to bother the maid to arrange my things.I was soon done with arranging my things, so I went ahead to shower after which I relaxed on my bed, ready to call Lily. I was about to dial her number when my phone started to ring with Mr. Miles's name displayed on the screen.I rolled my eyes and swiped the answer button."Hey, wife!" His voice strangely sounded soft unlike every other day he would sound like he was going to kill me with his voice, and I had to check my phone again to be sure it was him who called me."Hmm. Good evening, Sir,""I'm your husband now. You can't keep addressing me like that. It's in the contract," He reminded me, and I sighed briefly recalling that we were married now.'I'm going to continue to pay your salary, but you can't keep working as my secretary while we are married' As much as I was curious why he asked me to be a full housewife, I didn't mind because he would be paying me monthly, so it's fair enough."Hmm... Husband," I whispered and my heart flustered."I was supposed to come pick you up myself. I'm sorry I couldn't make it. I had to leave urgently for Texas because of a business appointment. I'm sorry," My eyebrows knitted together on their own, shocked that those words were actually coming from my grumpy boss. Was he drunk? I had to ask myself because that didn't seem like him."Hmm," I just hummed, unsure of what to say to him."Make yourself comfortable and tell Adelie if you need anything. She will get it for you," He uttered."Adelie?" I had no idea whose name was that, so I asked him."The housemaid. She's Adelie," He explained to me, and I nodded as if he was there."Good night," He uttered before the call ended, and I scoffed as I checked the caller again. I was sure that I just spoke to my boss and contracted husband just now, but the personality he displayed over the phone was nothing like him. Why was he suddenly being all nice to me? Is there something he was hiding from me? My curiosity heightened at that moment.I was still trying to figure things out when a knock sounded on my door and the maid's voice echoed from outside."Dinner is ready, ma'am. Are you coming to the dining room to eat or should I bring it for you?" I heard her speak and I was forced to ask myself where that respect was coming from, but then, I recalled that Mr. Miles must have told her that we were married. How crazy."I will come downstairs for it," I replied to her, and minutes later I heard her receding footsteps and I presumed she must've gone back.*****I returned to my room after I had dinner, and after an hour of staying up for the food to digest even though I was heavily sleepy, I finally went to bed.I didn't know how long I'd been asleep, but the sound of thick faint footsteps pulled me out of my deep sleep. The bright sunlight penetrated my eyes when I tried to open my eyes, so I closed them back. I felt someone's shadow towering over me and obstructing the bright sunlight that was penetrating my eyes, so I opened my eyes again and I was stunned to find those pair of charming brown eyes staring down at me, shining brightly like they'd never been before. It was Mr. Miles."Mr. Miles?" My voice came out in a whisper."Good morning, wife," He said to me with a blank expression on his face, and my jaw dropped. It was really him…Chapter 46 May POV "Aren't you coming inside? I should offer you juice to take," I bent over the car window once I alighted from the car. Lily had just come to drop me off at the front of the gate. "It's late already. Let's make it some other time. I need to head home early so I can wake up early for work tomorrow," She reminded me, and I nodded. "That's fine. When are we going to see eachother again?" "I don't know yet, but I'll find a way to see you during the week or by the weekend. Bye! And don't forget to make progress with my in-law. Stop being so guarded," I rolled my eyes as I straightened my back. "Bye," She chuckled as she wined up the glass. I turned and headed inside once she drove off. It was already 7:30pm, and everywhere was dark. I was just about to head to the entrance door when my phone started to ring, and I checked to see that the caller was Miles. This was the fifth time he was calling me in thirty minutes, asking where I was. Since I was alread
Chapter 45May POVLily's familiar car approached as I stood in front of the gate, waiting for her to show up and pick me up so we could leave already. She soon pulled over in front of me, then wined down the glass and crooked her neck out with a warm smile on her face."Have I been keeping you and my godchild waiting?""You bet," I rolled my eyes as I walked over to the other side of the car and hopped in the front seat with her."Be careful with that, please. You don't want to hurt my godchild," She gasped sharply and teased me as I struggled with the seatbelt."Thanks for your concern, but shut your mouth," I rolled my eyes at her and relaxed on the chair once I was able to fasten my seatbelt."So, tell me... What did you say you wanted to tell me? I came down here because of that, so don't keep me waiting," She turned her attention to me with an anxious look on her face like she was desperate to hear whatever gist I had for her, and of course, I knew she was desperate for it. Tha
Chapter 44After a long ride, Lilly arrived at the hospital and pulled over at the parking lot."Ugh! Finally! I thought I was never going to get here," She breathed out tiredly as she removed her car keys, tossed it inside her handbag, grabbed the small plastic bag beside her, and stepped out of the car."Hey, Lily. You look good as always," Lily couldn't hide her excitement when he colleague complimented her as soon as she stepped into the hospital."Thank you," She smiled and proceeded to her office."Hey, Lily," One of the male nurses smiled at her as he walked toward her in the opposite direction."Hey, Donald,""Wow! You're looking beautiful as always. Is there any special occasion? You look different," Donald raised his eyebrows after he checked her out. Although she has always been a gorgeous young lady, but she looked really different. Unlike every other days she would go to work with no makeup on, it was different today. Her appearance was evident that she really took her ti
Chapter 43"I know I was too harsh on her, but why would she say that to me?" Miles ran his fingers through his hair frustratingly as he paced restlessly in his room."I mean..." He paused and slumped on his bed, his fingers sinking into his hair."I'm not that bad, am I? Is she just mad at me or am I really not her type?" Thinking about everything she had said to him earlier really hurt no matter how he tried to push it away. "But I already apologized to her that I was sorry for saying those words to her. Why would she be so harsh on me?" He muttered and breathed in and out.'You started it all, Miles. You shouldn't be complaining' His subconscious mind reminded him, and he groaned as he dragged himself up to his feet and dashed out of the room.A few minutes later, Miles was standing in front of the door, contemplating on whether or not to knock on the door. What if she was still mad at him for saying that? What if she really didn't want to see him?'She already paid you back. She
Chapter 42May Walter POV'I'm resigning soon, and I need you to take over my companies as the new CEO' Mr. Williams's words played in my head as I stood at the side of the road, waiting for a cab to take me home. Many questions popped up in my head. Why me? Does he not have other kids? How could he trust me when we just met? Just because I'm his daughter doesn't mean that I'll be good to him, don't you think so?'I will have my driver go drop you off' He had offered earlier, but I declined immediately before I left his house. Maybe I should've agreed to it because it's really difficult to get a cab here since it was close to an estate. My phone beeped, and I hesitantly checked to see that it was a text from him.'Hoping to hear from you soon' I rolled my eyes and kept my phone away after I read through the text.My phone vibrated in my my pocket a few minutes later, and I cursed out silently as I reached for it, thinking it was Mr. Williams calling me yet again, but I quickly swiped
Chapter 41May Walter POV"Wife, I made breakfast. You should come to the dining let's eat together," Miles's voice sounded from outside a few minutes after I stepped out of the bathroom."Alright. I'll be there in a couple of minutes,""I'll be waiting," I heard his receding footsteps afterwards, and I presumed he must've gone back. It's been five days since we did the DNA test thing, and we were supposed to get the result today. For the umpteenth time, I picked up my phone and checked to see if my acclaimed Dad had sent me a text, but he didn't. I was grateful he didn't text me all this while just as I had demanded, but I was nervous since the result will be out today."Don't be nervous, May. You'll get over this," I assured myself and took a deep long breath before I walked out of my room and headed to the dining room to join Miles. My mouth salivated as the aroma of food welcomed me downstairs."You're here... Come have a seat," Miles didn't cease to be the sweet husband that alw
