Two days later

Maybelline Walter POV

"Did I do the right thing?" Again, I asked myself after I stepped out of the car that had just driven into Mr. Miles's mansion. I was finally moving in with him today after I signed the marriage contract yesterday, but I guess even if I wanted to change my mind, it would be too late. I mean, I already signed the contract so there was no going back for me now.

"This way, Miss," The driver's voice disrupted my thoughts and I turned to find him already carrying my suitcase.

"Oh, okay," He led the way while I trailed behind him.

Again, I took my time to check the beautiful house out and I didn't expect less from him, anyway. It was my second time of being here yet I couldn't still get enough of the place.

"You are here, ma'am?" Mr. Miles's maid, a young lady in her late thirties walked up to me with a warm smile on her face.

"I will take it from here," She went to collect my suitcase from the driver, then turned to me and smiled again.

"Mr. Miles asked me to take you to your room and make sure you feel at home when you arrive," She said to me in the kindest voice she could use, and I pulled a puzzled look. It was Monday today, so I didn't expect to have found him at home, anyway.

"Mr. Miles had an urgent trip to Texas, so he left this morning. He'll be back by tomorrow or next. He said he would call you," She explained to me, and I sighed briefly in relief.

"Come with me. I will take you to your room," She uttered then walked toward the staircase with my suitcase while I trailed behind her.

We walked down the walkway upstairs and she stopped in front of the second room by our right-hand side. She unlocked it with a pass card then pushed the door open and walked inside.

"Here is your room, ma'am. I will come back and arrange your things here when you are convenient with it," She said to me politely after she left my suitcase in the room.

"Call me if you need anything," She bowed slightly and finally walked away while I stared at her until she was out of my sight. All the time she was talking I didn't know what to reply to her with, so I just stared.

A familiar cologne graced me as soon as I walked into the room that looked like a master's bedroom.

"Why am I here?" I mumbled as I looked around the room, and the outline of it already explained to me that it was really a master's bedroom, but that wasn't the problem actually. The room looked like one that had been used or was being used by a man. It couldn't be Mr. Miles's room, right? Although we were married, it was a contract stuff, and no way he would ask us to share a room, right?

I brushed my thoughts away and went ahead to arrange my clothes in the second closet in the room since the first one was tightly locked. I didn't want to bother the maid to arrange my things.

I was soon done with arranging my things, so I went ahead to shower after which I relaxed on my bed, ready to call Lily. I was about to dial her number when my phone started to ring with Mr. Miles's name displayed on the screen.

I rolled my eyes and swiped the answer button.

"Hey, wife!" His voice strangely sounded soft unlike every other day he would sound like he was going to kill me with his voice, and I had to check my phone again to be sure it was him who called me.

"Hmm. Good evening, Sir,"

"I'm your husband now. You can't keep addressing me like that. It's in the contract," He reminded me, and I sighed briefly recalling that we were married now.

'I'm going to continue to pay your salary, but you can't keep working as my secretary while we are married' As much as I was curious why he asked me to be a full housewife, I didn't mind because he would be paying me monthly, so it's fair enough.

"Hmm... Husband," I whispered and my heart flustered.

"I was supposed to come pick you up myself. I'm sorry I couldn't make it. I had to leave urgently for Texas because of a business appointment. I'm sorry," My eyebrows knitted together on their own, shocked that those words were actually coming from my grumpy boss. Was he drunk? I had to ask myself because that didn't seem like him.

"Hmm," I just hummed, unsure of what to say to him.

"Make yourself comfortable and tell Adelie if you need anything. She will get it for you," He uttered.

"Adelie?" I had no idea whose name was that, so I asked him.

"The housemaid. She's Adelie," He explained to me, and I nodded as if he was there.

"Good night," He uttered before the call ended, and I scoffed as I checked the caller again. I was sure that I just spoke to my boss and contracted husband just now, but the personality he displayed over the phone was nothing like him. Why was he suddenly being all nice to me? Is there something he was hiding from me? My curiosity heightened at that moment.

I was still trying to figure things out when a knock sounded on my door and the maid's voice echoed from outside.

"Dinner is ready, ma'am. Are you coming to the dining room to eat or should I bring it for you?" I heard her speak and I was forced to ask myself where that respect was coming from, but then, I recalled that Mr. Miles must have told her that we were married. How crazy.

"I will come downstairs for it," I replied to her, and minutes later I heard her receding footsteps and I presumed she must've gone back.

I returned to my room after I had dinner, and after an hour of staying up for the food to digest even though I was heavily sleepy, I finally went to bed.

I didn't know how long I'd been asleep, but the sound of thick faint footsteps pulled me out of my deep sleep. The bright sunlight penetrated my eyes when I tried to open my eyes, so I closed them back. I felt someone's shadow towering over me and obstructing the bright sunlight that was penetrating my eyes, so I opened my eyes again and I was stunned to find those pair of charming brown eyes staring down at me, shining brightly like they'd never been before. It was Mr. Miles.

"Mr. Miles?" My voice came out in a whisper.

"Good morning, wife," He said to me with a blank expression on his face, and my jaw dropped. It was really him…
