~Lora~
If I hadn’t turned on the bedroom light tonight, I wouldn’t have discovered my husband’s betrayal… or lost everything. Why did it have to be tonight? On our matrimonial bed. I reached for him, unsure of what I truly wanted to do, but my body moved before my mind could catch up. "Get off me, you slow wench!" Michael exclaimed as he yanked my arms away from him. My ears rang. That word…‘wench’...felt unreal. I tried to regain my composure and pinched myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. "What do you mean by 'slow'? And what’s with the 'wench'? Where is all this coming from, Michael?" I asked as I pursued him once more, gripping his collar tightly. "Didn't you hear him? Back off! Ugh, you're going to make me puke..." Ivy, his secretary, intervened. Thank God I turned on the light; I was able to catch him red-handed. If not, he might claim I had seen things. "Where did I go wrong, huh?" I asked, tears streaming down my face. I glanced at Ivy again, her skin didn’t glow like mine, and her eyes weren’t the grey and hazel colors of mine. I was undeniably prettier. But there was something else... "Why can't you just be up to my standard and class, Lora?" Michael asked for the hundredth time. He had always wanted a more classy and sexily dressed wife, which I am not. "So, is that what this is all about?" I asked, my voice cracking as I stared at the man I gave up everything for. He scoffed, rolling his eyes like I was some kind of burden. "Don’t make this dramatic, Lora. It’s not like I’ve been hiding it, Maybe a month ago… a year or two? I don’t even remember. You were always too busy doing you." My stomach twisted. "You don’t even remember when you started sleeping with her?" Ivy laughed, flipping her hair as she perched on the edge of our bed…my bed. "He remembers how good I made him feel, though. Isn’t that right, babe?" “Don’t call him that,” I snapped. "Oh, please," she sneered. "You should be thanking me. At least now he’s honest." I turned back to Michael, searching his face for even a hint of regret. "And what about us? About everything we’ve built? The vows we took?" "Don’t act surprised, Lora….You were boring to me." "Boring?" I blinked, stunned. Ivy laughed behind him. "He needed someone exciting. Someone who knows how to satisfy a man." "Shut up!" I glared at her. "No, let her talk," he said, smiling towards her. "She’s saying what I’ve been too nice to say." I blinked, trying to stop the tears. "So what now? You're leaving?" He smirked. "No. I’m proposing an open marriage. You do you, I do me." I froze. "You’re not serious." "Dead serious. Maybe you’ll stop being clinging for once." Now it's “clinging” to him. Great. I sniffed, my hands trembling as the envelope from the doctor slipped from my fingers and hit the floor. I didn’t move, neither did he. My eyes just followed, watching it slide under the couch. He didn’t notice. Good. He doesn’t need to know I’m pregnant anymore. I clenched my jaw. "You disgust me." "Right back at you, sweetheart," he muttered, already turning to Ivy. He shrugged, planting soft kisses on her palm. "Maybe we need something new.… we should try it... Ivy doesn’t mind sharing, and you might actually loosen up for once if you had someone else." My mouth dropped open. "You can't be serious? You cheat, and now you want permission?" "I’m giving you a chance to be happy too," he said, hands in his pocket. I blinked again, trying to focus, but my head was spinning. Pregnant… I was pregnant. And now this? Michael crossed his arms. "You never really fit into my world, Lora. Maybe now you can find someone else who does." My vision blurred with tears, my jaw clenched tight. No, no, no, not here. Not in front of them. I turned away, pushing the tears back just for a moment. Just to breathe. And as I did, something in me broke… I didn't know how it happened, but i…just couldn't hold it anymore. "Why betray me like this? What does she have that I don’t?!" I screamed, grabbing his shirt again and shoving her out of his arms. Michael stepped back, jaw tight. "Class, Lora. For fuck’s sake. You're one of the most famous fashion designers and my wife, yet you walk around dressed like this?" He waved a disgusted hand at me. "It’s embarrassing. Haven’t I tried? Look at yourself." I trembled. "Bu..t I've always dressed like this. You met me, fell in love and married me like this.. so why?" He said, loud and clear. “Don't drag love into this.” My heart stuttered, that hurt more than the cheating ever could. “Then what was it? She's not even to compar....” I started, but he cut me off. "Please, don’t embarrass yourself further. Accept it. And no, we’re not getting a divorce. I won’t give you my signature or consent. So let’s end this pathetic show…" He sneered, looking straight into my eyes. "Show?!" I snapped, and before I could stop myself, I slapped him hard across the face. A loud crack echoed, with his cheek turning red instantly. I didn't mean to, it just happened "You…" he growled and shoved me, hard. I stumbled backward, my heels catching the edge of the rug. My body twisted mid-air, and then… CRASH. I landed on the glass table and it shattered beneath me. Everything happened so fast, I felt pain explode through my head. I gasped, but no air came. My chest hammered, my ears rang, and everything blurred. Michael’s voice faded into the background. But then I heard it, a soft scoff….a whisper, close to my ear. “Good riddance, now you'll know your place.” The last thing I felt was the cold bite of betrayal. And then… Nothing.~Lora~Alex didn't pick. I called him over and over again till my legs gave out on the floor. The tiles of the bathroom floor had been freezing, but the fire in my blood was worse. I stayed in the stall until my knees trembled and threatened to buckle, pressing my forehead against the graffiti-covered wall just to feel something cool. I waited until my chest stopped heaving, until I was absolutely certain Michael had given up and left the hallway, before I left. When I finally dragged myself out to the driveway, the open night air hit me hard.Instantly, a wave of nausea surged up my throat, followed by an icy shudder that racked my entire body. It made no sense. On the outside, my skin was goosebumps and shivering… on the inside, I was burning alive. The drug was an aggressive, pulsing current in my veins, twisting my thoughts and turning every nerve ending into an agonizing wire of raw desire. If I didn’t find a way to quench this heat soon, I was going to lose my mind.I forc
~Lora~The auction carried on, but the feeling from before came back slowly.I blinked, trying to clear my eyes, but the massive crystal chandeliers above began to blur, their golden light stretching into long, dizzying streaks. What's going on?I rubbed my palm over my face, maybe I was feeling sleepy without realising. But the sudden weakness I felt all over refused to leave. For some reason I was feeling light weight and hot, everything spinning.Instantly it hit me.I was getting dizzy. Why?No, no, no.Please, let it not be what I'm thinking. My mind flashed back to the family dinner.Could it possibly be the same thing? But… How could they get to me here? I looked around, but the faces of the guests were changing into terrifying, distorted shapes."Lora?" George's voice sounded muffled, as if he were speaking through a thick wall. "Are you alright? You look incredibly flushed.""I... I'm fine," I choked out, my voice trembling. "Just a bit warm. I need to use the restroom."He
~Lora~The second I turned, my smile locked into a mischievous, sharp smirk.Standing right there, a half-empty champagne glass gripped in his hand, was Michael. And right beside him, her manicured fingers slipping off his arm the exact second our eyes met, was Ivy.She tried to play it cool, smoothing down her designer dress and adjusting her posture, but her guilty, rigid shoulders gave her away instantly. I rolled my eyes.. Like it's not obvious something is going on between you two."Oh. Wow, Honey," Michael blurted. His eyes scanned me from head to toe, lingering on the expensive fabric of my dress, the curve of my waist, and the sheer elegance I knew I was radiating. He looked utterly shocked. "I didn't know your ‘going out’ plans would be this specific location."I folded my arms, leaning back slightly against the edge of the high display table. "Same here.”“It's so nice to see you can attend such.. functions.” He shrugged, then a short laugh followed.Ouch! One point down
~Lora~It had been three days since the hospital, and for the first time in what felt like forever, life had settled into an uneasy silence. It wasn’t peace, but compared to the chaos of the past week, I’d take it. I had visited Michelle twice, each trip offering a little more hope… the doctors said she was responding well to treatment, and color was slowly returning to her pale face. Christian still blamed himself for everything that had happened, though he tried hard not to show it. Instead, he kept throwing himself into work, proudly showing me the latest promotional campaign he'd designed for one of the collections.Poor kid. I wished I could take away some of his pain.Unfortunately, things weren't going as planned with Ivy and Gareth. Adrian had searched every government database he could access, but there wasn't a single trace of an Ivy Eleanor… no birth certificate, no identification records, nothing. It was as though she’d never existed. Gareth’s trail was equally biza
~Lora~Immediately I saw her face clearly, a cold chill shot straight down my spine.Ivy.For one moment, the entire hospital reception hung in total silence, the hum of the vending machines and the squeak of nurses' shoes fading into nothing.A wave of confusion turned my stomach. Why on earth was she here? When I had walked out of that restaurant, she and Michael had stayed behind together. They were supposed to be having the so-called ‘date’. So why the hell was she standing in the middle of a hospital lobby? Before I could even begin to process it, my gaze drifted to the man standing right beside her.My feet obeyed before my brain did. I stumbled backward, my heels skidding slightly on the tiles before I pressed my spine hard against the drywall around the corner.No. No, please…My heart skipped a beat, suffocating me. Maybe I was mistaking him for someone else. The lighting in these places was notorious for playing tricks on your eyes. And I've had a lot to deal with for on
~Lora~For several long seconds, Christian simply stared at me.It was as though the words couldn't fully penetrate. His lips parted, but nothing came out. Instead, his eyes slowly turned a deep, bloodshot red, filling with heavy tears he stubbornly refused to let fall."Ma'am..." His voice broke, thick and trembling. "I... I don't even know what to say.""You don't have to say anything, Christian.""No." He shook his head quickly, a single tear escaping and tracing a path down his pale cheek. "I do."He drew in a ragged, unsteady breath, finally lowering his gaze to the floor. "Thank you. For the job... for helping a stranger.... and now..."He swallowed hard, his throat tight. "For accepting Michelle."His shoulders shook slightly under his hoodie."I've spent so many years lying awake at night, wondering what would happen to her if something happened to me.. Or If I couldn't protect her anymore."He let out a quiet, breathless laugh. "I never imagined someone else would willingly ch
~Lora~"Why do you still have this?" I jabbed his chest with my index finger. He tensed, his jaw tightening. "Why? Does it bother you that I didn't erase it?""I told you to get rid of the tattoo, Alex. What do you want people to think when you finally meet someone?"“Sssh,” he murmured, leaning in
~Lora~I didn't realise Nicolas had reached for my wrist, just a brush of fingers. But Alex snapped, his fist connected with Nicolas’s jaw before I even understood what was happening. He lifted me like I weighed nothing, arms steady in a way that annoyed the hell out of me My breath hitched as my
~Lora~I made my way to the VVIP lounge, trying to clear my thoughts of everything, especially the feeling that someone was watching me.I took another shot of the whiskey, its warmth against my throat distracted me.Now I regret handing my phone to James, because he was nowhere on sight. And I wan
~Lora~“Mrs. Brown, can you hear me?”A faint voice stirred me from the darkness. I blinked rapidly as everything became clear.“Thank God you're awake”, the nurse said, smiling warmly, relief washed over her.“What happened?” I asked hoarsely, my body feeling strangely light...numb.“You collapse
