~Lora~

If I hadn’t turned on the bedroom light tonight, I wouldn’t have discovered my husband’s betrayal… or lost everything.

Why did it have to be tonight?

On our matrimonial bed.

I reached for him, unsure of what I truly wanted to do, but my body moved before my mind could catch up.

"Get off me, you slow wench!" Michael exclaimed as he yanked my arms away from him.

My ears rang.

That word…‘wench’...felt unreal.

I tried to regain my composure and pinched myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. "What do you mean by 'slow'? And what’s with the 'wench'? Where is all this coming from, Michael?" I asked as I pursued him once more, gripping his collar tightly.

"Didn't you hear him? Back off! Ugh, you're going to make me puke..." Ivy, his secretary, intervened.

Thank God I turned on the light; I was able to catch him red-handed. If not, he might claim I had seen things.

"Where did I go wrong, huh?" I asked, tears streaming down my face.

I glanced at Ivy again, her skin didn’t glow like mine, and her eyes weren’t the grey and hazel colors of mine.

I was undeniably prettier.

But there was something else...

"Why can't you just be up to my standard and class, Lora?" Michael asked for the hundredth time.

He had always wanted a more classy and sexily dressed wife, which I am not.

"So, is that what this is all about?" I asked, my voice cracking as I stared at the man I gave up everything for.

He scoffed, rolling his eyes like I was some kind of burden. "Don’t make this dramatic, Lora. It’s not like I’ve been hiding it, Maybe a month ago… a year or two? I don’t even remember. You were always too busy doing you."

My stomach twisted. "You don’t even remember when you started sleeping with her?"

Ivy laughed, flipping her hair as she perched on the edge of our bed…my bed. "He remembers how good I made him feel, though. Isn’t that right, babe?"

“Don’t call him that,” I snapped.

"Oh, please," she sneered. "You should be thanking me. At least now he’s honest."

I turned back to Michael, searching his face for even a hint of regret. "And what about us? About everything we’ve built? The vows we took?"

"Don’t act surprised, Lora….You were boring to me."

"Boring?" I blinked, stunned.

Ivy laughed behind him. "He needed someone exciting. Someone who knows how to satisfy a man."

"Shut up!" I glared at her.

"No, let her talk," he said, smiling towards her. "She’s saying what I’ve been too nice to say."

I blinked, trying to stop the tears. "So what now? You're leaving?"

He smirked. "No. I’m proposing an open marriage. You do you, I do me."

I froze. "You’re not serious."

"Dead serious. Maybe you’ll stop being clinging for once."

Now it's “clinging” to him.

Great.

I sniffed, my hands trembling as the envelope from the doctor slipped from my fingers and hit the floor.

I didn’t move, neither did he.

My eyes just followed, watching it slide under the couch.

He didn’t notice.

Good.

He doesn’t need to know I’m pregnant anymore.

I clenched my jaw. "You disgust me."

"Right back at you, sweetheart," he muttered, already turning to Ivy.

He shrugged, planting soft kisses on her palm. "Maybe we need something new.… we should try it... Ivy doesn’t mind sharing, and you might actually loosen up for once if you had someone else."

My mouth dropped open. "You can't be serious? You cheat, and now you want permission?"

"I’m giving you a chance to be happy too," he said, hands in his pocket.

I blinked again, trying to focus, but my head was spinning. Pregnant… I was pregnant. And now this?

Michael crossed his arms. "You never really fit into my world, Lora. Maybe now you can find someone else who does."

My vision blurred with tears, my jaw clenched tight.

No, no, no, not here.

Not in front of them.

I turned away, pushing the tears back just for a moment.

Just to breathe.

And as I did, something in me broke…

I didn't know how it happened, but i…just couldn't hold it anymore.

"Why betray me like this? What does she have that I don’t?!" I screamed, grabbing his shirt again and shoving her out of his arms.

Michael stepped back, jaw tight. "Class, Lora. For fuck’s sake. You're one of the most famous fashion designers and my wife, yet you walk around dressed like this?" He waved a disgusted hand at me. "It’s embarrassing. Haven’t I tried? Look at yourself."

I trembled. "Bu..t I've always dressed like this. You met me, fell in love and married me like this.. so why?"

He said, loud and clear. “Don't drag love into this.”

My heart stuttered, that hurt more than the cheating ever could.

“Then what was it? She's not even to compar....” I started, but he cut me off.

"Please, don’t embarrass yourself further. Accept it. And no, we’re not getting a divorce. I won’t give you my signature or consent. So let’s end this pathetic show…" He sneered, looking straight into my eyes.

"Show?!" I snapped, and before I could stop myself, I slapped him hard across the face.

A loud crack echoed, with his cheek turning red instantly.

I didn't mean to, it just happened

"You…" he growled and shoved me, hard.

I stumbled backward, my heels catching the edge of the rug.

My body twisted mid-air, and then…

CRASH.

I landed on the glass table and it shattered beneath me.

Everything happened so fast, I felt pain explode through my head.

I gasped, but no air came.

My chest hammered, my ears rang, and everything blurred.

Michael’s voice faded into the background.

But then I heard it, a soft scoff….a whisper, close to my ear.

“Good riddance, now you'll know your place.”

The last thing I felt was the cold bite of betrayal.

And then…

Nothing.

~Lora~“Why can’t you learn to control your wife?”Those words hit me before I even reached the table. I didn’t need to look up to know it was Michael’s mother.Around the table, the air felt heavy. Every relative sat frozen. They looked like they wanted to hide under the table just to escape her mean spirit.Perfect. Her irritation is my main target tonight.A slow smile pulled at my lips as I walked towards them.“There you are,” I said to Michael, my voice was bright and loud.Micheal’s head snapped toward me with dark eyes. His jaw was locked so tight I thought his teeth might break. “Where the hell have you been?” He didn't say it, but I saw the rage in the lines of his face.“Good evening, everyone,” I said, acting like I didn't feel the heat around. I moved to the empty seat beside him, my dress brushed against his suit.He didn't say hello, just stared. “Ahem.” My father cleared his throat loudly. “My dear, it has been a long time. And you show up this late? What will y

~Lora~If I wanted to shake Michael off my back for good, I needed something much bigger than whispers this time.Everyone in our world knew that George and Alex were leagues above Michael when it came to raw power, influence, and respect. And sitting across right George tonight? People would notice.I lifted the wine glass to my lips, taking a slow sip as a laugh slipped out of me at another one of George's jokes. Honestly… setting everything else aside, he was surprisingly easy to be around. He was comfortable. And that almost made this whole thing worse.“You have a really pretty laugh, you know that?” George said suddenly.I blinked, looking up over the rim of my wine glass. “What?”His lips curved faintly, his gaze locking onto mine. “There it is again.”An unexpected heat rushed up to my face, turning my cheeks pink. God.I needed to keep my head straight.George reached across the small table then, his movements slow and deliberate. Before I could flinch, his thumb brushe

  • Dear Husband, Let's Have An Open Marriage    Chapter 19: Hope?

~Lora~Thirty minutes later, I finally turned my phone off. I slipped it deep into my purse, like I was burying the chaos attached to it. Out of sight, out of mind. At least, that was the lie I told myself. The moment I stepped into the restaurant, the heavy air of the city vanished. Warmth and soft music wrapped around me, crystal lights glimmered high above, casting a golden glow over polished tables and expensive smiles. The entire place smelled faintly of rich food, fresh roses, and heavy money. It was beautiful, and expensive. My eyes scanned the crowded room once before landing on him.George.His dark hair was neatly pushed back, exposing the sharp, clean lines of his jaw. He wore a brown tuxedo that hugged his broad shoulders, making him look softer somehow.Less intimidating than he usually did at the office. More charming. He sat near a corner window, one arm resting against the white tablecloth as he checked his watch. He looked calm, but there was a slight tension

  • Dear Husband, Let's Have An Open Marriage    Chapter 18: Please Hate Me!

~Lora~He didn’t strike back, didn’t even look angry.Instead, Alex slowly touched his lip, looking at the blood on his fingers with a dark, fascinated sort of wonder. Then, he did something that made my breath hitch… he sank to his knees. He knelt right there between my bound legs, looking up at me like I was the only thing in his world.“I’m sorry,” he whispered, and he actually sounded like he meant it. He added, his voice cracking. “I’m so sorry I had to hurt you, Pookie. I hate these ropes on you. I hate that I’m the one who put them there.”He reached out, his touch trembling as he stroked the skin on my thigh. “I just wanted you to listen. I just needed you to stay.”Before I could process the apology, his eyes shifted. The vulnerability vanished, replaced by that dangerous flicker.“You want to go?” he asked, his voice suddenly stone-cold.Without waiting for an answer, he reached behind the chair. I felt the ropes loosen as he sliced through it with a pocketknife I hadn't

  • Dear Husband, Let's Have An Open Marriage    Chapter 17: Bound To You

~Lora~“What do you want with me?” I mouthed, thrashing against their grip.Twisting and pulling until my muscles burned, and my strength was fading. When the last of it drained away, I went limp.Rough hands forced my arms behind my back, the rope biting deep into my wrists. They shoved me into the back of a van, the metal floor cold against my skin. My legs were bound next, tight enough to ache.A wave of cold panic crashed through my chest. Then, immediately a strip of silk was yanked over my eyes. The world vanished, with darkness swallowing me whole and suffocating. But one thought spun in my head, over and over. Who took me?Did Michael find out about the scheme? Why? Or… was this a different nightmare entirely? If it was Michael, why such tricks? Why the blindfold?Time seemed to lose its shape after that. The only thing I heard last was my own heavy breathing. The next time I woke up, I felt a rough pattern of wood. I was sitting on a wooden chair. My wrists were

  • Dear Husband, Let's Have An Open Marriage    Chapter 16: Before The Family Dinner

~Lora~The heavy, humid air brushed against my face the moment I stepped out of the hospital. I stopped for a second, stretching my stiff arms with a quiet groan that felt like it had been trapped in my lungs for days.I turned back, staring at the sterile white building behind me. Thank God I was finally out of that place. But the relief felt cold somehow.Michael never showed up to pick me up.He’d sent a text claiming he had an "important meeting"....the same excuse he’d used a thousand times before. A lie, obviously. I was almost certain he’d gone off to celebrate the "good news" of our open marriage with Ivy.My jaw tightened until it ached.Speaking of Ivy… maybe it was time I stopped seeing her as just the enemy. Maybe I should make her an ally instead. After all, it’s easier to survive when your enemies are close enough to watch.I caught my reflection on the dark screen of my phone and nearly winced. God, I looked terrible. My skin was pale, my eyes looked dark and ti
