The house was quiet, the scent of roses lingering in the air and the candlelight casting a soft glow in the living room just like she wanted. The maids had done a wonderful job with the décoration.

Everything was perfect just as she had planned.

Today marked another year of her marriage with the love of her life, Daniel Davids. The man she believed would be her forever. In her hands was a bottle of vintage wine which was a symbol of love, trust, and commitment.

She had rushed home early, excited to surprise him. She had texted earlier to ask when he would be returning but he let her know that he would be running late due to some meetings but, Renee didn’t complain. She was in fact happy that she had enough time to prepare for their anniversary dinner.

She made her way to the bedroom door which was slightly opened, smiling from ear to ear but as she neared it, her face fell and her knees buckled.

Her husband, Daniel was naked, his clothes scattered on the ground as he thrusted into a blonde-haired woman whose face she couldn't see. The sound of their skin slapping against each other feels like a blunt knife being twisted into Renee’s heart.

Daniel whispers something into the woman’s ears and she giggles. She then turns around, swaying her buttocks seductively, and finally sits on his legs.

Renee freezes and her eyes widen as the woman’s face finally comes into view and is revealed to be none other than her sister, Chloe.

It was bad enough that her husband was cheating on her but it was a bigger slap on the face that it was her sister and even worse, on their matrimonial bed and their wedding anniversary.

She should have burst in. She should have screamed or broken something. She should have gone in and pulled her sister’s hair like an angry wife but, she didn't. Instead, she stood at the door watching them with tears in her eyes.

Something in her suddenly snaps and she pulls out her phone, taking a video of them as evidence.

A few thrusts from her husband and they both collapse on the bed, coiled up against each other.

“Does Renee know you fuck this good?” She asked with a coy smile.

“Renee? Please don’t ruin this moment by mentioning her. That woman is nothing but bad news.” Daniel ruthlessly says and sits up so he can kiss Chloe.

“You’re all I want to think about right now, Chloe. It's already bad enough that I have to spend the whole night with her.” He added, shaking his head in disgust and Chloe’s smile widened.

“That’s all I want to hear.” A satisfied smile spreads across Chloe’s face and she grabs him by his neck, leaning in to kiss him.

Seeing this, Renee decides that she has had enough and she moves away from the door, her eyes filled with unshed tears.

Leaning quietly against the wall, she wondered where things had gone wrong. She wondered when things went south in her and Daniel’s relationship.

They had made love just this morning and he had confessed his undying love for her, promising to spend forever with her so how did all of that change in seven hours?

“You said you loved me, Daniel?” She sobbed quietly. “Why? Why would you do this? And with Chloe?” Her vision had become blurry and her heart broke.

She loved Daniel.

“You…you said you were happy.”

Or has it always been a lie?

She met Daniel a few days after her eighteenth birthday where it was revealed that her birth parents who died in an accident when she was only six years old, owned a billion-dollar company that had now been passed down to her.

She still remembered his angelic face when he saved her from her bullies at prom night.

That was the night she fell in love with him and since then, she had loved no other!

He was her first love…after her father.

But, like all good things, that didn’t last and her father was taken from her six years after her birth.

After the death of her parents, she was taken in by the O’Neils, her parent's best friends who took care of her and raised her alongside their daughter, Chloe. Because of this, when it was revealed that she was actually a rich heiress, she took it upon herself to take care of all their financial need and make sure they never lacked a thing.

She even used her influence to get Chloe into the modeling industry and help Daniel start his own company. She built their dreams but they shattered her world in return.

Suddenly, something snapped in Renee and she was immediately filled with rage, the feeling of betrayal seeping in more than ever. The hurt and pain in her now that overpowering every good that had been done.

It was only a handful.

She had sacrificed everything for them and was even willing to give her life for them but they repayed her with a betrayal.

A very hurtful one.

Seething in anger, she stood to her feet and walked as fast as her legs could carry her, each step reminding her of the betrayal she had just witnessed. As she walked past the dining room, the candle that had been set up for their anniversary dinner flickered until it gave up.

Maybe that signified the end of their marriage.

Renee didn't stop walking until she was outside the mansion’s gate where she let out a scream she had been holding.

She clenched her fists so tightly, her fingernails digging so hard into her flesh that it almost drew blood but, that was nothing compared to the pain she felt in her chest.

Was this what betrayal felt like?

She was the fool for trusting Daniel all in the name of love. Now, the calm, devoted wife was dead. All that was left was a woman who refused to be broken by the people she loved. She had no business being with a man who could cheat on her so ruthlessly and still fool her by pretending to be a loving husband.

Fingers trembling and tears gushing out of her eyes she took out her phone and dailed the number of the last person she trusted.

“H-hey, Priya.” She sniffed. “I’m getting a divorce. Please help me get the documents ready.”

The smell of fresh coffee and waffles filled the kitchen as the sunlight poured in through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Renee sat across Bryan at the glossy marble island, stirring her tea absentmindedly. She hadn’t said much since she woke as her mind was still adjusting to the new environment and reality. The smell of fresh coffee and warm pastries drifted through the open-plan kitchen as sunlight poured in through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Renee sat across from Bryan at the glossy marble breakfast island, stirring her tea absentmindedly. She hadn’t said much since waking up. Her mind was still adjusting to the new environment, the silence around her, and the man who, in a matter of days, had gone from stranger to partner-in-pretend. “I got an invitation last night,” Bryan said, breaking the silence as he slicked into his waffle. “An invitation?” Renee looked up. “A party. The host is an investor at my company. Can’t really remember what he wants to celebrate but, I did get

Renee followed the security team after giving Bryan a call to be sure they were sent by him. After they were done packing her things from the hotel, they left the hotel. There was a black SUV waiting for her outside. The ride there was twenty minutes long with Renee’s heart beating drums as she realized how real it was. She was really moving in with Bryan! Soon, the car slowed down and she stepped out, her designer boots clicking against the smooth pavement as the security guards began unloading her luggage and walking into the building. Her eyes lifted to the building in front of her and her brows knitted in confusion. This wasn’t what she expected at all. Instead of a flashy mansion, she had expected a man as rich as Bryan Taylor to live in, a tall glass building stood before her. It looked almost like a penthouse except that he was the only occupant. “Is everything okay, Ma’am?” One of the men asked and she nodded slowly. “Yes.” She smiled and followed him into the house. N

“I’ve missed you, Danny.” Chloe purred, her perfectly manicured fingers grazing his shirt. “What are you doing here? And how did you even get in?” Daniel asked but remained seated, his tone anything but harsh. As much as he hated to admit, some of him still wanted Chloe. Maybe it was the loneliness… “I’ve always had your passcode, Danny. You gave it to me, Remember?” She shrugged and walked to where he sat, and made herself comfortable beside him. “Well, you look a mess.” She sighed, pushing her hair backward as she took a good look at him. His hair was disheveled, and he was dressed in a pair of black sweatpants and a blue tank top on a weekday. He looked…unemployed. “What are you doing here, Chloe?” He repeated, ignoring her comment. Chloe sighed and leaned into the chair, scooting closer to him. “I’ve missed you.” She whispered. Daniel paused, internally conflicted. His body wanted her, but his mind told him she was in trouble. “No. We’re not together anymore.” He forced

Renee stared at Bryan; her eyes widened in both shock and disbelief. She blinked rapidly as if she hadn’t heard him correctly. Then, she burst into laughter, shaking her head in disbelief. “You’re good! I didn’t know you were funny.” She said, still laughing. “But this isn’t the time to be joking.” She finally looked up, and her laughter died slowly. He wasn’t smiling. His expression was still serious, almost as if he was wondering why she thought he was joking. “Wait.” She frowned. “You’re serious?” Bryan gave a slight nod. “Dead serious.” Renee gasped and stared at him for a while. “You really want us to be in a pretend relationship? Us?” Bryan nodded again. “We would be clipping his wings. He won’t be able to pursue you publicly if you’re in a relationship with me. It’s going to be even worse if we let the whole world find out about our relationship.” She bit her lower lip. The idea was fantastic, she had to admit. As ridiculous as it sounded, it made sense. The only pro

Renee sat behind the wheel, her fingers tightening around the steering. She had wiped her tears and focused her attention on putting Daniel in his place. When Bryan asked her to come to his house and texted her the address, she didn’t hesitate. She didn’t even care that she probably looked a mess. She was now driven with fury and the ache of betrayal. Fifteen minutes later, she pulled up at the gate of a quiet apartment in the heart of the city. As soon as she got down from her car, she was spotted by security, who walked down to her. “This way, Miss Jackson.” The blonde-haired man said, and Renee figured Bryan must have informed them of her arrival. She walked through the reception area, which was meant to be a waiting area, and entered the elevator. Something told her he lived on the last floor, and when the security punched the numbers, she knew she was right. As expected, he lived in a penthouse, and from the exterior, she could already tell it cost close to a million dollar

Renee’s hands trembled as she slammed the iPad onto the bed. Her entire body shook, not from fear but from rage. “That fucking bastard!” She hissed, her hands gripping the sheets tightly. Priya sighed, pacing the room with the iPad in hand. “This is bad, Renee. I’ve been getting nonstop calls since the post went up this morning by 3 am. At Freaking 3 am! Reporters, TV stations…everyone wants the truth.” She stopped pacing and turned to Renee, lowering her voice. “People are starting to call you the liar, Ree. They think you made up the divorce as an excuse to fire Daniel. Some are even suspecting that you are having an affair, which is why you traveled for almost two years and left your husband.” Renee covered her mouth, her heart racing with both shock and anger. She looked around, searching for her phone, and as soon as she spotted it by the bed stand, she grabbed it and dailed Daniel’s number with shaking fingers. It rang and rang, but there was no answer. “Answer the ph
