ONE YEAR AND SIX MONTHS LATER

Priya sat in her office with a frown on her face. Her eyes were glued to the computer screen where another mail had been sent to her from the board of directors. They were having a meeting to push for her dismissal as CEO of JHoldings and appoint Charles.

This was their fourth attempt to push her away since Renee’s disappearance. Luckily for her, they had failed every time as she was continuously backed by an anonymous shareholder who kept using all of their large shares to make sure she remained CEO.

She guessed that it was Renee but, she wasn’t sure as he hadn’t heard from her in a year. All she got was monthly texts, informing her that she was still alive. No matter how much she called or texted, Renee never texted back.

It was as though she wanted to be deleted from the world.

Priya fiddled with her phone, biting her lips nervously. She was sending another text to Renee even though she knew it would be unanswered.

Charles shook his head, a cocky smirk dancing on his lips and his wife scoffed in disbelief. “I know you think your position will be secure because of that anonymous helper but I assure you, Priyanka. This time around, the board of directors isn’t messing around. You will be kicked out this time and not even Renee’s ghost can save you.” Jane said and stood up, clutching her purse. Charles followed suit but before leaving, he looked at her one last time. “There’s still time to think about my offer. Don’t make hasty decisions or you might regret it later.” He said and finally exited the office with his wife following behind. Priya sunk into her seat as soon as they left and clutched her head, she was feeling a headache coming. “I can’t continue like this for much longer.” She shook her head. “Where are you, Renee?” **** ONE WEEK LATER (At the Charity Gala) The hall was bustling with people—young and old, all dressed like they were attending a fashion show. • Dear Wife, I refuse to divorce you!   Chapter One

The house was quiet, the scent of roses lingering in the air and the candlelight casting a soft glow in the living room just like she wanted. The maids had done a wonderful job with the décoration. Everything was perfect just as she had planned. Today marked another year of her marriage with the love of her life, Daniel Davids. The man she believed would be her forever. In her hands was a bottle of vintage wine which was a symbol of love, trust, and commitment. She had rushed home early, excited to surprise him. She had texted earlier to ask when he would be returning but he let her know that he would be running late due to some meetings but, Renee didn’t complain. She was in fact happy that she had enough time to prepare for their anniversary dinner. She made her way to the bedroom door which was slightly opened, smiling from ear to ear but as she neared it, her face fell and her knees buckled. Her husband, Daniel was naked, his clothes scattered on the ground as he thrusted int

The night’s air was cool but Renee’s blood wasn’t. She sat motionless in her office seat, her eyes bloodshot with tears streaming down her cheeks uncontrollably. The weight of what she had just witnessed crushed her. The scene was still fresh in her mind no matter how much she tried to forget it. She could still see her husband and sister tangled up in her sheets. ‘That woman is nothing but bad news.’ Those words haunted her and drove her to insanity. Her jaw clenched and her throat tightened. With one sniff, she stopped the tears and used the back of her hand to clean them off. She wasn’t going to cry anymore. Not for him…not for Chloe. Her doors flung open and her best friend and assistant came running in. She ended the call immediately after she heard those words from Renee and made her way to the office. When she entered, the look on her face told Renee that she was ready to kill. “Ree! What was that you said over the phone? You’re getting a divorce? Why? What did that son

The morning sun crept through the curtains, casting a golden glow across the room but it was the opposite for Renee. There was no warmth left in her heart and all that was left was resentment and the thirst for revenge. She lay for an extra minute on the bed knowing that today was the start of her reclaiming her life and ending her relationship with Daniel. She slid out of bed and freshed up quickly. The weight and pain that pressed on her chest the night before had been replaced by something sharper- the need to erase Daniel from her life. When she arrived downstairs, she found him sitting at the dining table with coffee in one hand and his phone in another. Noticing her presence, he glanced up with the same sweet smile. He stood up and made his way to her before wrapping his arm around her.“Good morning, Babe.” He greeted them in a smooth voice and leaned in to kiss her lips but she swerved lightly.“Morning.” Her reply was cold and unusual. Daniel found himself wondering what the

After what seemed to be hours to Renee, she finally stepped out of the restroom, her eyes red with pain and her heart shattered. Even though she had wiped her tears, the tears were still visible to anyone who cared to look. She cleared her throat one more time, forcing a mask onto her face to seal the pain. She was going to let them believe she was still clueless but, only for a short time. She walked back into the dining room to see them all laughing and gisting, laughter echoing through the room. Daniel was the first one to sense her return. He turned to her with a bright smile. “You took forever in there. We were starting to wonder if you were giving birth.” He joked and everyone at the table laughed, everyone except Renee. Instead, she swallowed hard and balled her fists, holding herself from exploding. The dinner dragged on for two painful hours, with her foster parents fawning over Daniel and completely ignoring her existence except when Chloe threw a smug comment at her.

LATER THAT DAY Daniel walked into the house late at night after having dinner with Chloe at a hotel. He was ready for Renee’s questioning about why he was late. His excuse of course was always that he had a business dinner and she believed him… every time As he kicked the door shut, he noticed a sudden quietness. Usually, Renee would be in the kitchen heating his meal after hearing his car in the driveway or, she would be seated in the living room, waiting for him. This time, there was no sound from the kitchen and there was no one in the living room. Frowning, he dropped his keys on the glass table and loosened his tie. “Renee?” He called out, walking towards the kitchen. “Honey, I’m home.” He announced. There was no answer. ‘Is she still mad about yesterday?’ He scoffed, chuckling under his breath. He rolled his eyes and climbed the stairs, making his way to the bedroom. “Come on, Renee. You’re too mature for this. Don’t tell me you’re still making a fuss about that even afte

Chloe’s face paled as she stared at Daniel, her eyes begging him to say it was a joke. “What do you mean she's asking for a divorce? How could you be so stupid and let her find out about your affair?” Charles almost yelled, jogging down the stairs with a terrified look on his face. “H…have you tried calling her? It might just be a joke. We all know that Renee would never try to divorce you. She's too in love with you to do that.” Chloe spoke up. “Well, she did!” Daniel yelled and Charles's head snapped. “Quit yelling and look for a solution! If Renee leaves this marriage, the plan fails. If that happens, we’re all fucked.” Charles growled, seething. “Get your shit together and go get your wife!” **** Dressed in a sleek black dress that hugged her like a second skin. The morning light filtered into the room through the light curtains, hitting Renee’s head. She blinked, hoping to open her eyes but was immediately hit with a stabbing headache that felt like she was being pricked with a thousand needles. With a groan, she blinked again- slowly this time and waited for her eyes to adjust to the light. When she did, a frown crept onto her face as she looked around the unfamiliar room. How did she end up here? She looked around the bed and saw her clothes lying unbothered on the ground. That was when her eyes dropped to her body and a sharp gasp left her immediately. “Oh my God!” She whispered, fiddling with the sheets. She was naked in an unfamiliar room all by herself! She shot up, clutching the sheets against her bare chest as her heart thundered against her ribs. Racking her brain as if her life depended on it, Renee tried to remember how she ended up in a strange room. The last thing she remembered was saying hello to a stranger minutes aft

Daniel sat in his mini wine bar, a bottle of whiskey in hand and his phone in the other. He had been dialing Renee’s number nonstop with the hope that she would suddenly pick up even though he knew the chances were slim as he had been blocked. “Fuck.” He hissed, gripping his phone tightly out of frustration, and his hands The door soon opened with a bang and Daniel looked up from his drink just in time to see Chloe storm into the bar with a twisted face. “Wow, Daniel. Wow! Things are getting worse yet you have the time to drink.” She clapped mockingly. “This here…this is why Renee left you. You’re completely useless!” She fired. Daniel hissed, having had enough of her tantrums. “Don’t walk into my house and start yelling like a mad woman. What do you want?” He asked nonchalantly and took another gulp from his bottle. Chloe tapped her feet impatiently, her body shaking. “Are you aware that Renee is gone?” He paused. “What are you talking about? She’s staying in a hotel.

THE NEXT DAY AT JHOLDINGS The air was tense in the building as three elegantly dressed individuals stood outside the doors - their behavior and mannerisms a stark contrast from their outward appearance. “Do you not know who we are? Get out of our way!” Jane yelled, trying to get past the security officers whose hands were wide open, stopping them from going into the building. Jane scoffed in disbelief, clutching her designer bag and flipping her hair dramatically. “You all must have a dead wish.” “We are here to see our daughter. Step aside!” Charles stepped in, puffing his chest as a way of intimidating the security officers but, he was no match for the hefty-looking men. “My apologies, Mr and Mrs O’Neil but, we have received clear orders from Miss Renee not to let any family member into the building.” The head guard said politely and their eyes flew open. “What?” Charles cocked his head to the side and raised his brows in disbelief. “That’s impossible!
