“Renee…Renee Jackson.”

Loud gasps erupted from all corners of the hall, everyone turning to see if it was really Renee Jackson who had disappeared a year and six months ago.

Priya held her breath and turned in the direction of the voice.

“Oh my God!”

“Is that…”

“It can't be!”

“It is her!”

There she sat, legs crossed confidently, her black dress long and elegant, framing her goddess-like features perfectly. There was a black fascinator over her head, making her unrecognizable as it covered a large part of her face.

Slowly but intentionally, she took it off. Eyes watched her like a hulk, everyone waiting impatiently for the big reveal.

As soon as the covering was fully removed from her face, Priya let out of breath she didn’t know she was holding and her hand clasped her mouth as she muffled a scream.

“Oh my God!”

“It is really her!”

“Renee is back!”

People whispered loudly from all directions.

Meanwhile, Daniel and the O’Neils looked like they had seen a ghos

SMACK!The sting on Renee’s cheek died as soon as it came. She moved her tongue to the side, touching her cheek from the inside. Her eyes then turned back to face Jane, her eyes filled with rage.Jane couldn’t hide the fact that she was threatened by Renee’s calmness. She didn’t flinch or attach her. Instead, she took slow steps to her, only stopping when she was a step away from her.“This will be the last time you do something like that.” She said in a low, calm voice but, undeniably dangerous.Jane cleared her throat, covering her fear with a scoff. She crossed her arm and blinked. “Or what? You’ll glare me to death?”“I’m not the same girl you used to push around. Don’t make me do something we’ll both regret.” She said, ignoring Jane’s comment.“That’s enough!” Charles said from the side, placing his hand on Jane’s shoulder and shooting Renee a deadly glare.“That’s not how you should speak to your mother!” He scolded.Renee scoffed at his statement. That word and the woman standi

“I never signed the divorce papers, dear wife,” Daniel said with a wide grin.Renee’s eyes twitched and her heart dropped in disappointment. This wasn’t the news she expected.Daniel’s grin widened in expectation. He wanted to see the look of disappointment on her face, maybe a scream or a gasp—any visible reaction but, she did none of that.Instead, she tilted her head and gave him a faint smile. “That’s not a problem, Daniel. I can always make another copy. In my eyes, we are no longer together with or without the divorce papers.” She said and turned to Bryan.“Forgive me, Bryan but we would need to catch up later. I have somewhere important to be.” She said in a razor-sharp tone without smiling and walked away, ignoring Daniel who kept staring at her like a hawk.As soon as she left, he turned to Bryan, fury dancing in his eyes.“I don’t want you talking to my wife.” He said bluntly, his chest heaving.Bryan chuckled slowly and placed his hands in his pocket, his eyes cold and void

Charles shook his head, a cocky smirk dancing on his lips and his wife scoffed in disbelief. “I know you think your position will be secure because of that anonymous helper but I assure you, Priyanka. This time around, the board of directors isn’t messing around. You will be kicked out this time and not even Renee’s ghost can save you.” Jane said and stood up, clutching her purse. Charles followed suit but before leaving, he looked at her one last time. “There’s still time to think about my offer. Don’t make hasty decisions or you might regret it later.” He said and finally exited the office with his wife following behind. Priya sunk into her seat as soon as they left and clutched her head, she was feeling a headache coming. “I can’t continue like this for much longer.” She shook her head. “Where are you, Renee?” **** ONE WEEK LATER (At the Charity Gala) The hall was bustling with people—young and old, all dressed like they were attending a fashion show. Well, it was a

ONE YEAR AND SIX MONTHS LATER Priya sat in her office with a frown on her face. Her eyes were glued to the computer screen where another mail had been sent to her from the board of directors. They were having a meeting to push for her dismissal as CEO of JHoldings and appoint Charles. This was their fourth attempt to push her away since Renee’s disappearance. Luckily for her, they had failed every time as she was continuously backed by an anonymous shareholder who kept using all of their large shares to make sure she remained CEO. She guessed that it was Renee but, she wasn’t sure as he hadn’t heard from her in a year. All she got was monthly texts, informing her that she was still alive. No matter how much she called or texted, Renee never texted back. It was as though she wanted to be deleted from the world. Priya fiddled with her phone, biting her lips nervously. She was sending another text to Renee even though she knew it would be unanswered. She hoped for different this tim

Daniel sat in his mini wine bar, a bottle of whiskey in hand and his phone in the other. He had been dialing Renee’s number nonstop with the hope that she would suddenly pick up even though he knew the chances were slim as he had been blocked. “Fuck.” He hissed, gripping his phone tightly out of frustration, and his hands The door soon opened with a bang and Daniel looked up from his drink just in time to see Chloe storm into the bar with a twisted face. “Wow, Daniel. Wow! Things are getting worse yet you have the time to drink.” She clapped mockingly. “This here…this is why Renee left you. You’re completely useless!” She fired. Daniel hissed, having had enough of her tantrums. “Don’t walk into my house and start yelling like a mad woman. What do you want?” He asked nonchalantly and took another gulp from his bottle. Chloe tapped her feet impatiently, her body shaking. “Are you aware that Renee is gone?” He paused. “What are you talking about? She’s staying in a hotel.

THE NEXT DAY AT JHOLDINGS The air was tense in the building as three elegantly dressed individuals stood outside the doors - their behavior and mannerisms a stark contrast from their outward appearance. “Do you not know who we are? Get out of our way!” Jane yelled, trying to get past the security officers whose hands were wide open, stopping them from going into the building. Jane scoffed in disbelief, clutching her designer bag and flipping her hair dramatically. “You all must have a dead wish.” “We are here to see our daughter. Step aside!” Charles stepped in, puffing his chest as a way of intimidating the security officers but, he was no match for the hefty-looking men. “My apologies, Mr and Mrs O’Neil but, we have received clear orders from Miss Renee not to let any family member into the building.” The head guard said politely and their eyes flew open. “What?” Charles cocked his head to the side and raised his brows in disbelief. “That’s impossible! Renee would never

The morning light filtered into the room through the light curtains, hitting Renee’s head. She blinked, hoping to open her eyes but was immediately hit with a stabbing headache that felt like she was being pricked with a thousand needles. With a groan, she blinked again- slowly this time and waited for her eyes to adjust to the light. When she did, a frown crept onto her face as she looked around the unfamiliar room. How did she end up here? She looked around the bed and saw her clothes lying unbothered on the ground. That was when her eyes dropped to her body and a sharp gasp left her immediately. “Oh my God!” She whispered, fiddling with the sheets. She was naked in an unfamiliar room all by herself! She shot up, clutching the sheets against her bare chest as her heart thundered against her ribs. Racking her brain as if her life depended on it, Renee tried to remember how she ended up in a strange room. The last thing she remembered was saying hello to a stranger minutes aft

Chloe’s face paled as she stared at Daniel, her eyes begging him to say it was a joke. “What do you mean she's asking for a divorce? How could you be so stupid and let her find out about your affair?” Charles almost yelled, jogging down the stairs with a terrified look on his face. “H…have you tried calling her? It might just be a joke. We all know that Renee would never try to divorce you. She's too in love with you to do that.” Chloe spoke up. “Well, she did!” Daniel yelled and Charles's head snapped. “Quit yelling and look for a solution! If Renee leaves this marriage, the plan fails. If that happens, we’re all fucked.” Charles growled, seething. “Get your shit together and go get your wife!” **** Dressed in a sleek black dress that hugged her like a second skin. Renee sat at the VIP booth of a five-star club with Priya beside her. She looked nothing like a woman who had just walked out of her husband's life. Her hair fell to her shoulders in long, bouncy curls and h
