Astrid’s POV

I was lead to a room after a long walk by a maid. I was tired. Bone-deep and soul-hollowing tired, but my body refused to settle.

The room Ethan had shown me to was quiet, dimly lit, and far too large for someone with a mind this loud. It was painted royal blue and gold, with art design patterns around it. It was as if it was for seen that I will be spending a night here, because the colour happens to be my favorite. I almost chuckled in disbelief as I think that Ethan knows the little things about me. I trace my hands across the design patterns, noting the distinct and unique pattern they are drawn. I’d folded the duvet back and slipped beneath it an hour ago, but sleep was nowhere near. It wasn’t even teasing me from a distance. My thoughts had barricaded the door.

I turned again, this time facing the wall, the sheets tangled around my legs. I stared at the gray shadows the lamp carved across the floor and let my jaw tighten as Scarlett’s voice echoed in my head.

Scarlett's POV I didn't need anyone to tell me to tell me that Ethan wasn't turned on for me. I hate to think that somehow, he just have seen Astrid and got turned on. I had to act like I was enjoying the whole process. Don't get me wrong, Ethan was really good in bed, but he wasn't just for me.I guess he felt it too because he quickly finished and almost left before I trapped him with my question.I asked him if he believed me, and he faltered. I knew deep in my bones that he doesn't trust me, and I could leave by it. *****The door clicked shut behind Ethan, its sound echoing louder than it should have in the stillness of the room. I remained seated on the edge of the bed, the warmth of his touch lingering on my hands, now cold and empty. He said he believed me. The words were there, but the conviction was absent. I saw it in his eyes—the hesitation, the doubt. He didn't believe me.I rose slowly, crossing the room to the mirror. My reflection stared back, composed and poised, b

Astrid's POV The bathroom was bigger than I expected. Too big, honestly. It had this pristine coldness to it, like no one had used it in months. The lights were warm-toned, the tiles spotless, but it still didn’t feel like mine. Nothing here really did.Still, I stood at the door for a moment, eyes sweeping over the sleek tub tucked against the wall, the silver fixtures glinting beneath the overhead light. A bathtub. A real one. Just a bath. And suddenly, that sounded like exactly what I needed.I stripped slowly because my limbs were sore and heavy, and my thoughts heavier. I peeled off each layer like they were made of memory—reminders of every second of the last twenty-four hours. The lies, the tension, Ethan’s silence, Liam’s reassuring eyes.I folded my clothes and placed them neatly on the small stool beside the sink. It felt stupid to care about wrinkles, but order helped. Folding things helped. It was something to do with my hands that didn’t involve pointing a finger or rais

  • Deceitful Twin:A sister's shadow    Chapter 54: — Seeing through it all

Ethan's POVScarlett lied. No matter what she said, she lied and attempted to cover up her lies.First, she accepted that she birthed Liam. Next, she's giving us reasons why she must have stolen him from Astrid, like we were supposed to nod and pretend it all made sense. Like it was normal to shift a story that drastically and expect no one to blink. Every word out of her mouth was carefully chosen, meant to distract. She played it so smoothly, just enough truth sprinkled into the fiction to keep the room tilted in her favor. But I saw it. I saw the cracks. The flickers of guilt behind her eyes she thought I wouldn’t catch. The way her hands twitched slightly when Astrid spoke. The way her voice tightened when River’s real name came up. She was trying to rewrite the truth, slowly, steadily. One version at a time. First, she was the grieving mother. Then she was the victim. Then she was the one who loved him the most. But none of that explained why she kept changing her story. And n

  • Deceitful Twin:A sister's shadow    Chapter 53: Scarlett's Lies

Astrid's POVI hate her guts. I hate everything about her.The way she tilts her chin, pretending the world owes her something. The way her lips curve in that smug little smile that people somehow still believe. I’ve seen liars. I’ve heard lies. But Scarlett? Scarlett breathes them. She stood there like nothing touched her. Like she wasn’t the reason I spent years hiding my son. Like she hadn’t looked me in the eye just now and called him her child. She even called him Calen.I curled my fingers into fists at my sides, my sharp nails digging into my palms. It was the only thing keeping me from lunging across the table and wiping that painted look of sympathy off her face.Liam stood just a step behind me. His silence was a wall between my rising anger and the urge to shout. And Ethan—he stood off to the side, arms crossed, eyes locked on Scarlett. His jaw was tight, but unreadable. No one spoke at first.Liam finally stepped forward. “There’s a way to prove it. Call the seer.”Scarlet

Scarlett's POV “No,” I said. “I didn’t know.”His gaze flickered over my face. Searching. Testing. Waiting for something to crack.I didn’t blink, to avoid breaking. It was only when he finally nodded once and stepped back that I felt my knees nearly give out beneath me. I held my stance, refusing to crumble. But inside, my heart was hammering.I had survived worse. I could survive this too.But something had shifted. And I wasn’t sure if I was the one still holding the knife.I actually thought they’d summon me formally. Maybe send someone. Maybe let me walk in with enough dignity to hold my head high. But instead, the door was cracked—just enough for me to step in and feel the air shift.I paused at the threshold.Ethan stood with his back to me. Astrid sat across the room, her expression unreadable, posture too calm for someone who’d barged into my territory like she still belonged in it. Liam stood at her side, arms folded, jaw clenched tight like the sight of me alone made his s
