The glow on the field increased in intensity as fires were lit sporadically. They were lit close to the posts in preparation of any new tortures that were about to happen to the males that were not going to be kept alive as prisoners. All in the name of satisfying Corbin’s morbid curiosities.

Basically, any male that was strong enough to fight back, or those too old to change the mentality of, was led to the unsuspecting posts that previously seemed to have been placed for no apparent reason by Corbin’s men. But, as the reason for them dawned upon me, it stirred a new pain in my heart at all the loses yet to come. My tears dried up, and my mind seemed to be shutting down, numbing me as it went into shock.

I was lost.

A place that I had grown up in and was as familiar with as the back of my own hand, was now an unrecognisable, dull hellhole and I just stood paralised, unable to focus yet alone move even a toe.

I watched as my pack mates were separated and tied to posts. Others we

I could hear howls from within The Moonlight territory once again; some of them were full of sorrow, others signaling attacks or defeats as I looked to the sky, over the gently swaying trees, as though it would help me to see what was happening elsewhere. Each cry sent a pang of fear to my heart for my pack members as I worried about their safety. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see dark figures emerging from the forest; some in wolf form, and some in human, each of them moving at different speeds. Some charged their way out of the thick darkness to surprise nearby enemies and fight, whilst others moved more stealthily further into the bloody battle going on around them as they tried to get to wolves that had already been restrained and attempt to free them. Panic surged through me as I tried to think of what I could do to help. I watched as Pops ran to a woman panicking on the ground and assisted her to stand, then urged her to run. “Enough! That will fucking do!” Corbin was

I saw the moment that Reid decided to initiate his attack. I observed as his muscles went taut; they constricted just a split second before he pushed off from the ground and moved weightlessly through the air towards Eli, with all the power, agility and speed that his muscular frame provided him. Years of intense training was evident before he even landed his formidable strike on an unaware Eli, yet alone when his balled-up fist connected with its target with effective precision. It sounded like a sharp crack of lightening had clapped in the skies above us, deafeningly loud and momentarily stilling the battling figures on the ground, utterly stunned at the shocking sound. The noise was the sound of Reid’s fist connecting with Eli’s cheekbone, throwing him off-balance, along with the rolling waves of his Alpha aura. He staggered backwards, away from the crowd of stunned wolves that had been trying to force his submission through brute force, until they were knocked-for-six b

As a new void descended upon the area; it overshadowed the natural darkness that surrounded during the night. It had changed to a dull, lifeless, never-ending abyss that waited to swallow us all into an eternal pit of emotional turmoil, torture and unrest. The smell that now came from Elliot was not the scent that I recognised when I thought of him from before tonight. His usual scent of musky familiarity was long gone and would forever be replaced by the heave-inducing smell of blood. I could no longer smell just the peaceful nature that surrounded us; it was now intoxicated with a mixture of crippling fear, salty tears that had fallen from almost every single eye of the assembled wolves, sweat from both the faction that worked with Corbin and all of us that had been forced here. It all permeated the once-fresh air and made it too bitter to focus with my stupid enhanced wolf senses. The usually mild dirt scent was stronger from the many wolves trampling the lush grass, whilst the e

There were many gasps of shock as Corbin revealed his plans for Elliot, but there was also just as many hushed murmurs as the other wolves here questioned what a Blood Eagle was and just what that entailed. The sounds of shuffling as wolves twisted and turned to each other gossiping reached my twitching ears from my position at the front of the confused and terrified group. There was one noise that differed from the typical gasps and whispers of the group that stood out to me, as if it had been highlighted and the volume turned up. A random whimper of understanding and fear had my stomach reaching with sympathy and grabbing my attention. It had been mum letting the involuntary sound slip from her lips as Corbin had finally informed us all his plans for our youngest Alpha Heir, my brother, her son. Her wolf’s need to protect its pup was most likely in full force, eager to attack Elliot’s captors and free him before anyone attempted this barbaric torture, the Blood Eagle, whatever it i

I did not have a clue on how I was supposed to react, other than defensive on my brother's part. “You can’t, he doesn’t deserve this, any of this. They didn’t do anything wrong though!” I started off quietly talking, but it did not take much for me to work myself up to a shout. This is my family that he was so callously talking about. At this point, I did not care about what happened to myself, so I tried getting to my mum and remaining brother. But Reid grabbed my arm before I had managed to take more than two steps and threw me backwards to the floor, my long and now puke-covered dress allowing me to slide a few meters with the force and strength that Reid had used. All eyes in the room were on us two, watching on bated breath, waiting to see what unfolded and to see if I was next on the pile of wretched death that was fast increasing. Reid was bent down, hovering over me and panting in anger. His eyes were glittering gold with the fury of both him and his wolf, both were tryi
