17. Consequences

Marcus' POV

The sight of the porcelain tiles faded into a blur as I strode into my room, shutting the door behind me. I took another full spoon of the cold ice cream, feeling the sweetness as it melted down my tongue. Somehow, it was starting to taste like vinegar.

So this is how it's going to end. I'm about to lose everything I've spent my life trying to get just because of a total stranger. My father said he'd even throw me out of the house so she can stay. That would be a disaster. I'd be freely giving them the alone time they wanted so they could steal from him.

I released the spoon I was clenching, letting it clatter against the floor. Then my fingers gripped the bowl of ice cream, and with one swing, I tossed the bowl across the room. It shattered when it hit the floor, sputtering ice cream all over the tiles.

“I won't let them.” I yelled, tightening my fist.
