LOGINThe days after the attack went by in a blur for Liya. The broken window had been fixed but flashbacks from that night continued playing in her head like a broken record. She had finally seen the dangerous world he lived in, a world she was no part of.
Liya roamed the wide halls of Aldo’s mansion, the fanciness around her a total opposite of the storm inside her. Even with the expensive crystal chandeliers and paintings that decorated the walls, the air was still filled with tension. She felt like a prisoner in a golden cage, her every move watched by Melinda or one of Aldo’s men. Her brain kept returning to Aldo’s words from the night of the attack: you're a party to the game now. She couldn't figure out what he was saying. What role did she play and what game was he talking about? While roaming, she came across a library, the room was filled with books from floor to ceiling, it was every girl's dream. She ran her fingers over them, inhaling the smell of leather and paper which was soothing. This was her life before the shit show. Halting on a worn copy of Pride and Prejudice, she pulled it out and flipped through the pages. “I see you found the library,” Aldo said from behind her. Liya jumped, turning to find Aldo at the door. He leaned his shoulders against the frame, his navy blue suit a good fit for his body, his hair styled back, and his eyes observing her deeply. “You scared me, I didn't hear you come in,” she said, holding the book closely. Aldo entered fully into the room, his huge frame making the space feel small. “I didn't mean to,” he said. “You’re too easy to frighten.” “Probably because my life has been flipped over and threatened only within a week,” she said mockingly, almost taking offense to his words. Aldo found her tone and attitude amusing. “Fair point.” He motioned to the book she was holding. “So you're a hopeless romantic at heart.” She didn't know if he was mocking her or genuinely asking. “Yes, I have always enjoyed the idea of a brave woman making her way in an environment that doesn't believe she is capable,” she said. “Interesting. Do you feel you are underestimated, Liya?” he asked, his face unreadable. The way he said her name left her a little breathless. Composing herself she said, “I don't know how to feel right now, but one thing I know is that I didn't sign up for all this.” Aldo nodded, seemingly understanding her. She didn't look like the type to get involved with people like him. But it had happened and they could only deal with it. “Are you still not going to tell me what the game is with Damian? Why is he after me?” Liya pressed. Aldo immediately turned away, his expression changing. “Because he finds you useful. To him, you're the leverage he believed he needed to get through to me,” he shrugged nonchalantly. Liya looked at him confused. “Why does he think that? What exactly does he want from you?” Aldo turned to her with a stern face. “Aren't you tired of asking the same questions and not getting any answers? Because I'm getting bored of it,” he said. “No, I'm not tired. If you'd just give me a straight answer, then I won't continue to bore you,” she said, not backing down. “Damian and I have a past. I'm not getting into the details because you don't need to know all that. Just focus on surviving,” he said and exited the library, leaving Liya more confused than calm. That night, Liya had dinner alone in the large dining room, her appetite lacking despite the delicious dishes laid before her. Suddenly Melinda entered the room. “Aldo wants to speak with you,” Melinda said. Liya’s heart skipped, thinking he was finally going to tell her the truth. “Right now?” “Yes, he's in his study,” Melinda nodded. Liya went with her, passing through the faintly bright halls, anxiety and anticipation growing as they got closer to his study. Once they got to the door, Melinda knocked before pushing the heavy doors open, leaving them alone. Aldo’s back was to her as he stood by the window, looking outside with his hands in his pockets. “Sit down,” he said, not even bothering to look at her. She sat on the chair in front of his desk, taking note of the folder on top of his table. She wondered if it had anything to do with him requesting to see her. “How well do you know your brother?” Aldo said, breaking her out of her thoughts. “Very well, he's my brother,” she said, not understanding the direction of his question. “And you trust him very much, true?” Aldo voiced, already knowing the answer. “Of course I do. I mean why wouldn't I trust him,” Liya said in an obvious tone. “Look, I’m aware of his shortcomings, everybody makes mistakes. But I can assure you that he's not a bad person.” Aldo looked at her before picking up the folder and tossing it in front of her. “Open it.” “What's this?” She asked as she read through bank statements, large sums of money, and names she’d never heard of. “Proof that your brother isn’t just a gambler but also a launderer for Damian. Whether he did it by choice or out of desperation doesn't change the fact that Damian is taking advantage of the situation,” Aldo told her. “That's not true, Liam would never do that. Why are you showing me this?” She asked as she stood up. “To show you how cunning Damian can be. He wants to destroy me and everything connected to me, even you,” he said in a serious voice. “Do you deserve to be dragged into this mess?” “No, but I can't abandon my brother— he's my only family,” she said in a firm voice. “You’re too loyal for your own good,” Aldo said. “Looks like Liam won’t be your only family.” Liya looked at him with a frown on her face. “What do you mean?” “We’re getting married in three days,” Aldo said without any emotion. “Three days?” Liya said. She thought she had more time before she’d be tied to a man she barely knew and became a part of his dangerous world. “That's too soon.” “No, it's not. The earlier we do this, the earlier we can focus on more important things. Carrying my name gives you added protection,” Aldo told her as he took out his phone. She felt a pinch of pain as he said that. She couldn't blame him for acting uninterested in the wedding, she wasn't exactly jumping for joy at the news. “Now if you'll excuse me, I have work to do. Stay in the house and within sight. Don't go anywhere alone,” Aldo said as he busied himself on his phone.Aldo slammed his fist on the glass side table one more time. He didn’t know what he was going to gain from any of that, but his bleeding knuckles seemed to give him the peace that he had been looking for. The flow of blood managed to relieve him somehow. But the thought of Liya not coming back to the house only reminded him of how much of a jerk he was. The smell of whatever Aria was preparing in the kitchen filled the house. He could tell that it wasn’t going to be nice but if he dared mention that to her she was going to be mad at him. He would make it up to her somehow. The thought of Alana now roaming the house like it belonged to her again made his hands clench into fists again as he headed downstairs. Liya was the lady of the house, and nothing was going to change it. Whether she was present or not. Alana could only dream. He felt all she needed at that point was space and time to reflect. He was willing to give it to her as long as she was going to come back to him. She could
Everything in Liya was telling her to go back to Aldo’s mansion. But she knew that she couldn’t do that. Not after all the emotional slap that she had received. He didn’t say it to her face, but she felt insulted when he said he would let his ex-wife stay in the house. That was the one thing that she knew she wasn't going to tolerate. The air in her lungs found it difficult to come out. She held on tightly to the edges of the chair. How was she supposed to get on? She had tied everything to them. Her life, her future plans, and even her suffering. She knew that she was never going to be able to blame Aldo for her abuse by Damian but she knew they would be her support system. Especially when her brother was not helpful in any way.. Even she finally knew that there must have been a reason why Damian brought her and Aldo together. But then, why has he been quiet since she was rescued? He must have found out that she was out of the Marino mansion. He must have had a reason for keeping h
“What is she talking about?” Liya whispered. Aldo was lost for words. He didn't know what to say to her. Or what she had actually even heard.“You already know that Aldo and I were involved in the past,” Alana started, and she walked towards Liya. Liya couldn’t help but take a step back. She still had her eyes fixed on Aldo as she waited to hear what Aldo had to say about the bomb that had just dropped. But even he was looking down at the little boy. “Who is he? What relationship does he have with Aldo?” Liya asked, now looking at Alana again. Liya felt like she was the only one who could give her a proper answer. “He's Aldo’s child. And I’m here to drop him off.”Liya dug her hands into her hair. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. She didn’t even know what she was supposed to think, but she knew that she didn’t want Alana there. The child was someone she had loved spending time with during her stay at Damian’s place, not Alana. She was willing to take care of him until they
It was the first time that Aldo had killed somebody and felt guilty as hell about it. Not that he was guilty of killing Frank. He was guilty that he couldn’t do more to make him suffer. He had thought about taking Frank to his warehouse in the woods and chopping him into a thousand and one pieces. But it was too late to consider anything again. He just wished to go home and take care of Liya the way she deserved. He didn’t care if he was going to have to leave everything behind. Damian was still out there. Aldo even went over to his house, but he wasn’t there.“The coward,” he had whispered. He didn’t really expect much from Damian. But he at least expected him to face him like the man he always claimed to be. Aldo knew that it was only going to be a while before he came out looking for Liya. That only made him realize that getting him married to Liya was something that Damian had planned right from the beginning. But why he went to such lengths to unite them is something Aldo doesn'
Liya quickly had her bath, dressing up in a black gown. She waited until Aria headed to the library with Melinda before she even attempted to pick up her phone to call Lillian again. It didn’t cross her mind for once that Lillian might have just been trying to bait her. She knew that Lillian was Xavier’s cousin and she was sure Xavier would have told her just how dangerous Aldo was. His calm demeanor wasn’t something to play with. She was heading out of the house when Melinda walked in. Melinda looked at her in shock. “Is everything okay, Liya?” she asked, and Liya nodded quickly. The last thing she needed was anybody questioning her about where she was heading. “I just wanted to quickly head out and get a few things,” she said, and Melinda shook her head still. “You know that Sir Aldo had asked me to take care of you,” she said while shaking her head. “I should have put someone else in charge of looking after Aria.”Liya smiled. It was good to know that she was loved and that peo
Aldo had purposely been avoiding every event that included him going out in public. He received countless calls from different people asking about his well-being but he was comfortable with remaining in the shadows for the main time. He needed some time away from the public to lay a foundation for a greater plan. He didn’t even leave the house. He left everything that had to do with work to Melinda. She was in charge of making sure that everything ran properly, and so far, everything was perfect. He soaked himself and filled his time with taking care of Liya. Even Liya was shocked that he was there with her at every second but she was comfortable with it. She didn't grumble because it was only his presence she could put up with at that moment. “Don’t you have to go to work?” Liya finally asked on the fourth day, and Aldo frowned. “What happened? Don't you want me by your side? Or do you want to be alone? I would rather be here with you while you go through everything. Or do you wan
