2 Asher

My cup smashed to the floor as coffee poured everywhere as I shot back as fast as I could until my back hit the fridge. The door swung open so hard that all the glass shattered against the wall. He stood at my door, a tall man with dark hair and piercing brown eyes. A long black leather coat billowing at his ankles from the harsh winds.

“Oops I didn’t mean to open it that hard.” He said

“What do you want” I managed to stutter.

“Keira, we have something very important to talk about, but right now is not that time and this is definitely not the right place, we need to go somewhere safe now”.

“I’m not going anywhere with you, I don’t know who you are”. I reply

“You are of great importance, I need to ask, have you been having any dreams in these past few weeks, dreams of horrible creatures?”

“H..ho...how did you know about that? I haven’t told anybody about them” I stammered.

“I know because these are not dreams Keira, they are truly happening and you having these dreams confirms that you are the person that we have been looking for”.

“ A force of evil has been awoken and these events that you are seeing, will not only increase but they will get much more dire. If we do nothing and allow it to carry on happening then the world as we know it will cease to be. It has been foretold that these events would happen and that when it did there would be one person and one person alone that could stop it, and that person is you Keira”.

I burst out laughing “ I think you have been taking some crazy pills, if I’m the only hope the world has got we are screwed”. I was saying this while thinking I hope he is just crazy and not some psycho that has come to kill me.

I carried on laughing, he just stared at me with a look of disgust and anger on his face.

I stopped laughing “why should I believe what you are saying? How can these dreams really be happening when creatures like that don’t even exist!”

He moved so fast across the kitchen that he was a blur and when he stopped in front of me he now had bright red eyes and long pointy teeth bared at me. I stumbled backwards, suddenly afraid again.

“I am Asher Evans. I am a vampire and I have been for many many years”. He growled.

“So tell me now that creatures like that do not exist.”

I didn’t know what to say or what to do. The trembling carried on throughout my body. His face returned to normal.

“I am truly sorry for scaring you, but the time has come and we do not have the time or luxury to ease you into this situation, we need you to learn quickly”.

“What do you.., I mean what am I supposed to do?”

“I mean this can’t be real, I’m just tired and this is just crazy me, making these things up. I’ll wake up and I will be safe in my bed”.

“ I assure you that this is all real and you will not wake from it”.

“ we need to go before they have a chance to find you too”. He carried on talking, but I wasn’t paying any attention to him now. I had to try and get my head around something that would change my life forever.

“Keira..., Keira..., Keira are you listening to me? he said “pack a bag we have to go now.”

“ How do you know i'm the right person?”

“ Do you have a scar the shape of a bow and arrow?”

My face paled and I answered

“ Yes I got it the night my Mum and Dad died in the car accident.” tears creeping into my eyes remembering that terrible night.

“ You were born on the right day, you have the scar and you have no parents and now you are having the dreams it just confirms that you are the right person.”

I went to my bedroom not to specifically pack a bag as I didn’t know what to believe anymore and if I could trust him, but as a chance to be by myself for a minute so that I could think. I decided to grab my pink duffle bag from under my bed and start adding a few clothes to it and other essentials, making sure that I packed my Mom's locket the one she wore on the night she had died. It had a picture of me and my Mum on one side and me and my Dad on the other side.I kept packing so that I had something else to concentrate on so that my mind could catch up on the events that have unfolded out in front of me. I climb out of my PJ’s and slide on a pair of blue jeans, a black tank top and small blue cardigan. I then lace up my favourite black boots. Perched on the end of my bed I wonder what I am supposed to do now. Do I trust him or should I just ignore him and wonder if he will leave.

Then there is a knock on the door and Asher says “ are you ok in there Keira?”

I finally noticed that he is speaking with a strange british accent. I ramble in my head about where he could be from, and what year he was born, when I hear the knocking on the door again.

I opened the door with a bag in hand “ how do I know that I can trust you and that what you are saying is true and you're not just trying to lure me away?”

Just as he was about to reply a loud growl came from outside. Asher then shoots to the window and glares out into the night.

“Damn it  they are here, quick get your bag, we need to leave right now”.

“I’ll explain everything that I can, when you are safely away from here”.

I look out the window and I see five creatures, fur covering their large bodies. I can’t believe their size, they are bigger than lions. My mind is made up. I need to trust Asher and that I no longer want to stay here.

Asher picks up my bag while snorting at the colour. He then picks me up and runs with me.

We are in front of the kitchen door in a blink of an eye. The already broken door smashes through and one of those beasts from my nightmares was standing in front of us. I let out a little whimper, but then I composed myself if I am meant to be the one to help save the world I will need to be tougher than this.

Asher put me and my bag down and ran towards the beast as it charged towards me. The beast never made it to me as Asher jumped on top and rammed a silver dagger into the beasts temple killing it instantly. Within a few seconds the beast lay on the ground with blood pooling underneath its head.

Asher picked me and my bag up and then my kitchen window blew through as more creatures jumped through it. Asher ran. It is safe to say I have never moved that fast in my life. Everything rushed by I couldn’t make out what anything was as it was still dark out. I didn’t even see him leave my house. Asher suddenly stops and looks behind us. I couldn’t see or hear anything but Asher must do as he carries on running again.

He seems to keep running for hours. I had to close my eyes as I was getting dizzy. I laid my head against his chest and slowly I drifted off to sleep.

I woke up for a second as Asher lay me down on something soft and then it was all darkness.
