The gasps resounded in her ears. The stares, she could still feel them burn through her, and she had broken down, had shrieked instead of howl, but no one laughed.

There was nothing to laugh about.

She had dashed through the crowd, the ground feeling uncomfortable under her feet. It was the most vulnerable she ever felt, the most useless, the most naked, the most empty.

Empty, that was the word.

It had been years of being the strong and young budding alpha female, and in one night, it seemed all of that had been taken away.

The wolves of the Craw pack were black and strong, their eyes a variety of colors that changed based on their mood. The wolves of other packs had similar characteristics and sometimes you could only tell the difference based on scent and markings.

“Other packs” however, did not include the Decent pack, the pack of the white wolves. They were the outcasts and had gone into hiding for many years now because as Isha had always been told, they were a mistake to the werewolf lineage.

She had just discovered that she was a mistake.

It hurt and she was thankful it hadn't taken too long when she blindly rammed into a tree and turned into her human form.

She had itched to shed the wolf form off her and all the training she had received had escaped her mind. If one looked within her mind at that moment, one would find a massive hole, she was certain.

If it weren't for the ongoing kidnapping of wolves, she would have fled the territory that night. She knew better, and so when she was sure everyone had dispersed from the open hall, she made her way back to the royal quarters, walking as stealthily as possible.

She got to the confines of her room and there, her eyes rained with tears.

The realization of her being a white wolf meant a lot of things. One, she was not going to be alpha. She had trained her whole life for nothing. Since the existence of werewolves, there had only been one female alpha, and of course, she had been from the Craw pack. She would be the second as her mum hadn't been able to conceive after giving birth to her.

It also meant her mum had been unfaithful in her marriage. Her parents were mated at a very young age and had developed a strong bond no one could break, or so they had thought.

The royals of the Craw pack picked their mates from within the pack. It was to prevent issues such as this and to preserve the Pack's secrets.

It meant Craw was left without an alpha to rule, and it meant for the first time since its formation, the Wells family would not be seated on the throne.

The knock on her door was so soft. She instantly knew who it was.

Her first thought was to swing the door open and run her fangs through the neck of the person standing on the other side but she needed answers, and that was her mother, even though she saw her differently now, it didn't change her love for her.

She got up and walked to the door.

“You have five minutes” She showed a full palm for emphasis as soon as the door came open.

Sapphire Wells walked in, but her countenance was as Isha had always remembered; proud, head high, and there was not one change.

“Sit” she commanded

“You lost the right to tell me what to do” Isha pointed out “You lost it when you decided to make me a fool in front of every member of this pack.”

“Do not make me repeat myself” Her blue eyes twitched and Isha knew her wolf was about to reveal itself and Luna's wolf was a rough one.

Isha swallowed to keep herself from spewing words she would end up regretting. She walked gingerly to the bed and sat, her back facing her mother.

Sapphire knew her daughter was hurting. She also was hurting because she knew what was to come, her wolf had sensed it, but a Luna was not to be scared, and even if she was, she wasn't to show.

She didn't know how to put the words together, but she was going to have to tell her daughter, she deserved to know. It was time.

“You're not a Wells” she began

The tears were tugging at Isha’s lids but she blinked them away “That's not news, who am I then?”

“Dredger” Sapphire swallowed “Aaron Dredger is your father.” She took a side glance towards the door to make sure no one was listening “If I were you, I wouldn't let anyone else know.” She moved from where she stood for the first time since she came in and as she got closer, Isha moved backwards. She found it hard to recognize her mother, she felt disgusted too and all she wanted to do was to be left alone at that moment.

“Why?” She asked when she could find her voice “I thought you loved dad.”

Sapphire smiled “Sometimes love is never enough. I pray you never get to understand that.”

Isha shook her head in disbelief “what will happen to me? Will I still be alpha?”

Sapphire's heart broke. It was the first time she was seeing her daughter this hurt.

She closed the distance between them and this time, Isha let her. “You will be fine. I don't know what Wells has in mind but if you ever realize it's time to go home,” she paused and waited till Isha looked into her eyes “you go. You go my love, and you never look back. And when you find Dredger, tell him Clear Skies sent you.”

Isha raised her brows “Clear Skies?”

Sapphire’s lips spread into a smile as she nodded but there was pain in her eyes. “He always called me that.”

The realization dawned on Isha and she scoffed “no, this wasn't just a one night stand or a fling. You loved him.”

The Luna's face held no expression. She was not much of a speaker. “Be careful,” was all she said as looked around the room as if searching for something.

“What did Dad say?” Isha pressed on.

“Nothing, haven't seen him since then.”

Isha nodded “anything else I should know?” She didn't mean to sound rude but she couldn't help it.

“I love you, and I'm sorry. I know you waited to be alpha all your life.”

A minute of silence passed while they stared at each other, unsure of the next thing to say.

“Try to get some sleep” Sapphire said as she made for the door.

“A white wolf? Of all the people to fall in love with, really mum?”

Sapphire didn't turn or stop. She pulled the door open “Patience and silence are two different things. So many wolves are blind, it doesn't mean you should be too.”

  • Dirty White   Letting Go

Vivian was in a catch 22 situation. Even though Nate had assured her his plan would soon be kicking off, she was almost certain he would fail and if she stood by his side, then she would be going down with him.He hadn't given her much details as usual, but had asked her to trust him and that soon the throne would be hers and he would rule with her.She knew he didn't care about the throne. Nate was not power hungry, he just loved her and hated that because of a stupid prophecy, her family had lost what was theirs and that she was taking the fall for it. He felt it was his duty to rescue her but she was beginning to doubt it, maybe she didn't need to be rescued, maybe this was supposed to be her life. Had her family still been on the throne, she would never have gotten the chance to be Luna. Royalty, yes, but Luna was a whole different kind of royalty. Even if it had never crossed her mind at the time, being so close to power right now seemed unbelievable to her and to let it go in t

  • Dirty White   Hope

The door opened but this time Carol didn't open her eyes. She had dashed the hopes that anyone coming in was willing to let her go. Even the maids didn't want to speak to her. No one wanted to offend Avan and so they kept their distance. However, when the silence remained for so long, she opened her eyes and saw Nate. He hadn't moved from the door and had both eyes fixed on her like she was a subject in an experiment he was working on.She wanted to let him know she didn’t care if he came over to mock her. It was the first time he was stepping into the room so he had already made it clear that she was the least of his problems. However, she was too tired to say a word and so she closed her eyes back and let him enjoy her helpless sight.“You know a couple times I had worried about you, and your goal here. I had my thoughts but it was never what it actually is. I would have guessed for a hundred years and still wouldn't have gotten it right.” He made a low chuckle “I have to give you y

  • Dirty White   Threads Unraveling

“You are going to talk, and you are going to say the truth.” Avan said as he walked in. He grabbed a chair close to the bed where she lay sprawled, all limbs chained. The other three ladies in the room knocked over things as they scrambled their way out, bowing in the process.Carol forced her eyes open and she stared back at him but she was too tired, not for this. Her arms and legs were weak. It had been over a week since she was placed in that position, she wasn't even sure she could walk anymore.*Who are you?” He asked.“Carol Gordon.”“Who is your father?”She coughed to give herself some time to think “Died before I got to know him.”“Mother?” “Sold me off as a child. No one wants a decent, you know that.”He ignored the connection that was radiating from her. That feeling was back again and it wasn't helping, not while there were important things at hand.“Why did you follow me?” he asked. He could hear the weakness in her voice, and he knew she wasn’t pretending. She may hav

  • Dirty White   The Night He Chose

He decided it was tonight. After Nate had gone, he had cleaned up and waited for her to return. He knew she was mad about earlier and he wasn't here to beg but to give her a gift, one he knew she and her entire family had been waiting for. He was awake when she came in but he said nothing. She didn't turn on the lights but instead called his name in a soft whisper. When he didn't answer, she proceeded to take off her clothes and went in for a quick bath.He was watching her as she applied lotion when she was done, the scent filling the room, turning him on. She reached into the closet to pull out a robe when he stopped her.“No, come to bed.”She turned in a startling surprise “you're awake?”“Been awake. Where were you?”“Touring the territory. I needed to clear my head.”He groaned “You know that's not safe. Come here.”She took steps towards him. The moonlight pouring into the room gave her a good view of the look on his face, and he was so handsome. Her body trembled without her

  • Dirty White   Breaking Prophecy

Emma had just finished making a scene and it had gotten her nowhere. Word had been flying around so she had heard the trouble Carol was in. What she didn't understand was why she wasn't allowed to say hello to her friend. This was the only person that had been there for her in this pack and now, when she needed help, she couldn't be there for her.She had gone to the council but was not allowed to enter. After so much noisemaking, Hunter had sent orders to have her taken away. She cried bitterly. It had been a week and she feared she was being tortured or had been taken to the other very terrible units. She owed her a nasty slap once she saw her because she had warned her to be careful, and somehow she blamed herself because if she had been entirely honest with Carol, maybe, she wouldn't have gotten into the mud so deep, but her priority now was to see her friend and ensure that she was alright, just like how she had made sure she was some weeks back.As she sat on the brick, contempl

  • Dirty White   A War Foretold

Nate's words kept ringing in his ears.“You should have killed her. You are alpha.”“She isn't who she claims she is, and I need that information from her. She could be useful to the pack” but he didn't mention the fact that after he had struck her, he had felt the pain she had felt and had instantly regretted it. He didn't know if she also regretted coming at him. When you're fated to be with someone, you don't want to see them in pain, and if anything, you shouldn't be the one causing them pain. Seeing her hurt reminded him so much of Holly, her death and every other sad thing that had come along with it. He was thankful he hadn't touched her heart, and that she was in recovery. He would have had one more thing to hate himself for.“She's a white wolf,” Nate had responded. “I don't know what more you want her to be.”“She is strong, Nate, very strong. Whatever her story is, I want to know it.” He had climbed on the horse that was waiting “Also, I don't need to remind you to stop que
