Se connecterTo the amazement of Isha, she was taken to a room and asked to wait.
While she waited, she reflected on the past seven days of her life. It had been hell.
She hadn't eaten a decent meal these days and had spent hours balling her eyes out in the dark.
From watching her mother lose her head at the hands of the axe man, to her dad sending her to the dungeons, to her letting go of her treasury in exchange for her freedom, to getting betrayed and being sold away like a bag of tomatoes, to being brought to Blue Villa, it felt like she was seeing a movie, except this time, this movie was too real, it made her bleed.
Everything had happened so fast and she knew she needed to get rest and quickly too, otherwise she was so close to passing out.
She did everything to suppress her wolf from revealing herself every time it was about to happen. She was not about to bear being mocked a second time.
And her wolf had been quiet for two days. It seemed she had given up and accepted that she wasn't wanted. She couldn't stop thinking this was the reason they were considered weak, the defeat was too easy.
The fighter in her was still there somewhere, but it felt weird reviving it. She was not a Wells, she will never be one, and maybe she didn't deserve to be one.
However, her wolf had been restless from the minute she set her eyes on the alpha. She had a strange feeling but didn't know if that was normal, she had only turned once and so couldn't tell much about what should or shouldn't be.
“Relax girl,” she muttered as she scanned the room for the fifteenth time. There was nothing there, nothing useful at least. Just a well dressed bed on which she sat, and a book at the far corner.
Rolling her eyes, she let out a deep breath and pushed further into the bed, allowing herself to lie properly, and eventually giving in to her tiredness.
She awoke to whispers and instantly knew she wasn't alone. Careful to not give away that she was awake, she lay still, pressing her eyes together in pretense.
“She's a lucky one,” a soft-spoken girl said. “She will never get to find out what happens on the grounds.”
“Why did the alpha give her special treatment? I don't see what's special” another girl said.
There was a low chuckle “It use to be fun when they bring in the girls, but these days there's just nothing interesting.”
“How long has she been asleep?” There was a little fumbling around the cupboard area “We have work.”
“Yes,” It was the girl with the soft voice again “but we were instructed to let her rest for as long as she needs to. I think she had a really long journey.”
The other girl scoffed “The other girls who came with her are already up and on their feet. She is no different.” Isha could hear her as she leaned onto the bed.
“Zoe! Alpha’s orders.”
The pressure on the bed was released and Isha knew she had gotten up. It was a relief to her because she still didn't know what she was to do and she was still really tired. She hadn't eaten and she wasn't mentally ready to face anyone at all.
“This is Blue Villa. No one gets preferential treatments.” The other girl was speaking again, “And the ones who do don’t always have a good ending.”
“We better get going. She'll see the food when she's awake.”
The mention of food brought tremendous relief to Isha and so the minute they were out of the door and she heard the door lock secured, she turned over and sat upright.
There was a small piece of fish on a plate, along with a huge loaf of bread that was not toasted. A jug of warm water was also on the tray and although the sight was far from appetizing, Isha dug in.
The door opened just as she was finished and a woman with a height double of hers walked in. Her hair was white from the roots and she walked funny, or so Isha thought.
“Carol Gordon” she called.
Isha opened her mouth but before she could say a word, the lady was already speaking.
“Follow me.”
Isha did as she was told, and so they walked down the long hallway together. The woman in front, never turning to check if Isha was keeping up, while Isha struggled to match her pace. Despite her unstable movement, she walked quickly. They passed through a few persons who casted weird glances at them.
Finally, she turned the door of a room open and moved to the side. Turning to Isha, she said “Clean up, and change into that.” She moved her head to indicate a black thin strapped dress on one of the many beds in the room . “There's so much to do. You have five minutes.”
Shipments rolled out in wagons, one after the other and Hunter sighed in relief. It had been a stressful period for everyone in his unit and he had been given a special assignment by Avan, to nurse Carol until she was back on her feet.He didn't understand the fuss about the girl, she was just someone who always wanted to be noticed, to the point of putting herself at risk. The news was everywhere by now, and just like everyone, he was wondering why Avan had spared her.It didn't make any sense, any other person who had dared him the way she did would already be forgotten by now.He had begun working on her medicine, after it had taken him weeks to go source for the herbs. They grew outside territories, in the wild and those were areas no one easily ventured into. But then, the alpha's orders were never to be questioned and he had spent a fortune to get them. The potion was almost ready and he would begin tendering to her.He thought about her a lot, about why Avan cared about her, ab
It had been really quiet within, and Carol was beginning to fear for her wolf. She thought of all the training she had received back at Craw, trying to recall if there had ever been a mention of the possibility of your wolf dying within you. Her mind was blank most of the time and every time she tried poking at her memory, it only brought pain to her, never answers.Days had passed since the last time Nate came in, and since then, it had only been the maids coming in and out, never saying a word to her each time she tried to start a conversation. Now, she had given up on trying. They seemed afraid of her, though she could argue it was just dislike. Most of the time, she thought of Emma and how she was coping without her. She was not totally healed when she was brought here, she could only imagine what she was going through. As a budding alpha, her dad had always taught her to put the thoughts of the pack members before herself, and that made it difficult to think of herself even in su
He wouldn't say he was shocked but he found the sight strange. His friend and Beta alone in the same room as his soon to be bride. Thankfully, Nate had an explanation before he could ask why.“She heard the rumours, Avan. She knows. I promise I didn't tell her.”Avan’s eyes narrowed and his brows raised in question.“That you’ve met your mate.” His voice was still calm, his pose unshaken. “She wanted a name but I made it clear that's up to you to disclose.”Vivian couldn't hide the shock on her face and she was grateful she was facing Nate in that instance. She turned to Avan “Who is she?” As much as she tried to control the speed at which her heart was racing, her wolf was failing her and she was about to let her loose “if you have anything to say, say it now. I can't deal with looking stupid in front of the whole pack.”“Let this be the last time you raise your voice at me.” Avan said and the silence in the room returned. The only noise came from Vivian’s breathing. She took a deep
Vivian was in a catch 22 situation. Even though Nate had assured her his plan would soon be kicking off, she was almost certain he would fail and if she stood by his side, then she would be going down with him.He hadn't given her much details as usual, but had asked her to trust him and that soon the throne would be hers and he would rule with her.She knew he didn't care about the throne. Nate was not power hungry, he just loved her and hated that because of a stupid prophecy, her family had lost what was theirs and that she was taking the fall for it. He felt it was his duty to rescue her but she was beginning to doubt it, maybe she didn't need to be rescued, maybe this was supposed to be her life. Had her family still been on the throne, she would never have gotten the chance to be Luna. Royalty, yes, but Luna was a whole different kind of royalty. Even if it had never crossed her mind at the time, being so close to power right now seemed unbelievable to her and to let it go in t
The door opened but this time Carol didn't open her eyes. She had dashed the hopes that anyone coming in was willing to let her go. Even the maids didn't want to speak to her. No one wanted to offend Avan and so they kept their distance. However, when the silence remained for so long, she opened her eyes and saw Nate. He hadn't moved from the door and had both eyes fixed on her like she was a subject in an experiment he was working on.She wanted to let him know she didn’t care if he came over to mock her. It was the first time he was stepping into the room so he had already made it clear that she was the least of his problems. However, she was too tired to say a word and so she closed her eyes back and let him enjoy her helpless sight.“You know a couple times I had worried about you, and your goal here. I had my thoughts but it was never what it actually is. I would have guessed for a hundred years and still wouldn't have gotten it right.” He made a low chuckle “I have to give you y
“You are going to talk, and you are going to say the truth.” Avan said as he walked in. He grabbed a chair close to the bed where she lay sprawled, all limbs chained. The other three ladies in the room knocked over things as they scrambled their way out, bowing in the process.Carol forced her eyes open and she stared back at him but she was too tired, not for this. Her arms and legs were weak. It had been over a week since she was placed in that position, she wasn't even sure she could walk anymore.*Who are you?” He asked.“Carol Gordon.”“Who is your father?”She coughed to give herself some time to think “Died before I got to know him.”“Mother?” “Sold me off as a child. No one wants a decent, you know that.”He ignored the connection that was radiating from her. That feeling was back again and it wasn't helping, not while there were important things at hand.“Why did you follow me?” he asked. He could hear the weakness in her voice, and he knew she wasn’t pretending. She may hav
