Nathan’s POV

The motel room was too quiet for how loud my thoughts were.

The rain had slowed to a steady patter against the window, the neon sign outside flickering weakly, painting the walls in pulses of red and blue.

Carmilla sat on the chair at one corner of the room while I was on the bed, pretending to watch old reruns on TV.

“I’ll just finish these,” she said, already opening her laptop, tone brisk, professional, impenetrable. “The supplier summaries need to be submitted by morning.”

“It can wait,” I said.

She didn’t look up. “It can’t.”

That was her armor. Work. Precision. Control. And tonight, I realized she was using it the same way I did—like a shield.

I sat on the edge of the bed, jacket discarded, sleeves rolled up, watching her fingers move across the keyboard. The glow from the screen lit her face harshly, emphasizing the shadows beneath her eyes.

“You’ve been at this since before dinner,” I said.

“I’m fine.”

A lie. A familiar one.

Minutes stretched into an hour. Then a

Brandon’s POVSleep was a joke.I’d tried—really tried—to lie there and shut my eyes, to let the day burn itself out of my system. But every time I closed them, I saw the same thing: grainy security footage, a woman in a trench coat, a hat pulled low, walking out of an office door just minutes before I arrived.Too early. Too late. Always missing each other. So I ended up at Matthew’s bar instead.Half of me told myself I was there to show support. Album launch. New artist. The place was packed, buzzing with energy, low lights reflecting off polished wood and glass. Music thumped through my chest—good music, the kind that normally cheered me up and made me feel good. Tonight, it just made everything louder.“You look like hell,” Matthew said, sliding a glass across the bar.“Good evening to you too,” I muttered, lifting it. Whiskey. Neat. I hadn’t even asked. He leaned his elbows on the counter. “Did you sleep at all?”“Nope.”“Want to talk about it?”“Nope.”He snorted. “Thought so.

Emma’s POVOut of all the villas on this island, out of all the logistical miracles I’d managed to pull off for this trip, I still had to share one more night with Lucas.I stood in the middle of the villa as the lights flickered once—twice—and then died completely.“Oh. You’ve got to be kidding me,” I muttered. The air-conditioning cut out with a sad little wheeze, and within seconds the place transformed into a humid, suffocating box. The only light came from a few emergency candles the staff had dropped off earlier, their flames casting long, flickering shadows across the walls.Somewhere behind me, Lucas let out a low whistle.“Well,” he said lightly, tossing his phone onto the bed, “this is… intimate.”I shot him a look. “Don’t.”He grinned, completely unapologetic, already loosening his collar like the heat didn’t bother him at all. A battery-powered fan sat on the nightstand, humming weakly, stirring the air just enough to remind us how useless it was.Lucas flopped onto the be

  • Divorce and Regret: Chasing My Famous Lawyer Ex-Wife   Chapter 166 – Running Late

Brandon’s POVI was one street away.One.Then everything stopped.Cars jammed up ahead, horns blaring, people leaning out their windows, shouting. I leaned forward in my seat, trying to see past the line of stalled vehicles—and that’s when I saw it.Two men. Out of their cars. Chest to chest.“Unbelievable,” I muttered. One of them shoved the other. Someone screamed. A crowd began to form, phones already out, capturing every second like this was entertainment instead of a disaster waiting to happen.I checked my watch.Fifteen minutes late.My jaw clenched so hard it hurt.“Move,” I snapped uselessly, tapping the steering wheel. “Come on.”Nothing moved. The argument escalated fast—fists raised, voices hoarse with rage. A third man tried to intervene and got shoved aside for his trouble. Traffic was completely deadlocked now. That was it.I threw the car into park.“What are you doing?” the driver behind me yelled.“I’m done waiting,” I shot back, already yanking the door open.I did

Natalie’s POV“I really can’t stay long,” I said, standing halfway out of my chair as if momentum alone might carry me out the door. “I have a flight to catch.”The lie slipped out smoothly enough, but my chest felt tight as a vise. My pulse was loud in my ears, each beat counting down to the moment he would walk in.Attorney Morgan regarded me calmly, like a man who had seen every version of panic dressed up as professionalism. “I understand,” he said. “Though Brandon did mention he’d be arriving soon.”Soon.The word sent a jolt straight through me.He gestured toward the folder on his desk—the one he’d set aside earlier, unopened, waiting. “If you really need to go, then I can just let you read this now,” he said gently. “In Grandpa York’s last will, it’s indicated that you can read it without Brandon’s presence, but that Brandon just needs to be informed.” My gaze dropped to the folder as if it might explode.“That’s… the letter?” I asked, already knowing the answer. He nodded.

  • Divorce and Regret: Chasing My Famous Lawyer Ex-Wife   Chapter 164 – Plenty of Delays

Brandon’s POVI checked my watch for the third time in under a minute.Plenty of time. That was what I kept telling myself as I grabbed my jacket from the back of the chair and headed toward the door. Nervous energy buzzed through me—not the kind I got before negotiations or board meetings, but something sharper. Personal.I was finally going to meet her.The ex-wife I’d signed papers for but never really known.Maybe this would finally put an end to it. Or maybe it would make things worse. My phone rang just as my hand closed around the doorknob.I sighed and answered. “Brandon York.”“Mr. York, this is Clerk Alvarez from the family court,” a woman said briskly. “I’m calling regarding a minor issue with your finalized divorce paperwork.”I stopped short. “That was settled months ago.”“Yes, sir, it was,” she said. “This is procedural. We just need your confirmation before we release any related documents.”I glanced at my watch. “What kind of issue?”“There’s a discrepancy in how you
