Brandon’s POV

I still wasn’t sure why I’d come.

Natalie’s text kept replaying in my head. I didn’t fully understand what her deal was, but I needed to know.

The idea of seeing her had pushed everything else—Vivian’s smug partnership announcement, the endless calls from my mother—clean out of my mind.

I stepped inside, letting the warm scent of coffee cut through the damp air, and scanned the tables.

My chest constricted. There she was, sitting in a corner booth and looking fresh and pretty despite the upset look on her face.

And across from her—Matthew. His hand was on top of hers, and he looked as if he was trying to comfort her about something.

But still, what the hell? Why are they together?

Matthew suddenly looked up and saw me. Surprise flashed across his face, quickly hardening to suspicion.

“Hey, man,” he said, voice sharp with disbelief. Then his eyes narrowed. “Wait a minute… don’t tell me you got a message from Natalie too.”

Yeah,” I said slowly, still trying to process i

Brandon’s POV“Let’s keep this efficient,” Nathan said flatly. “We all have other fires to put out.”Natalie didn’t look up from her tablet. “Efficiency requires alignment,” she replied calmly. “Otherwise, you’re just moving fast in different directions.”I leaned back slightly, watching the exchange. This was already more interesting than I’d expected.Nathan’s jaw tightened. “And you think we’re misaligned?”“I know you are,” she said, finally lifting her gaze. “And that’s exactly why Vivian still has room to maneuver.”There it was. The quiet authority in her voice—measured, unprovocative, but impossible to dismiss.I glanced at her then, really looked. She seemed… lighter. Focused. Not coiled and braced the way she’d been lately. There was a calm in her posture that hadn’t been there before, as if something inside her had settled.Nathan crossed his arms. “Graveswell has already taken steps to contain exposure.”“Yes,” Natalie said. “Individually.”Silence stretched across the tab

Natalie’s POVI told myself I was going home. That I would shower, change into something soft, maybe pour a glass of wine and let the day finally drain out of me. That I would be sensible.Instead, an hour later, I found myself on the highway, the city thinning behind me, my hands steady on the wheel while my thoughts refused to slow.I didn’t question it. Not really. The pull was quiet but persistent, like a tide you don’t notice until you’re already ankle-deep.The lakehouse appeared just as the afternoon light softened, the water catching the sun in gentle flashes. The moment I stepped inside, something in my chest loosened. As if the place recognized me. As if it had been waiting.“Okay,” I murmured to the empty room. “I get it.”I kicked off my shoes, left my bag by the door, and opened the windows one by one. The air smelled clean—wood and water and sunlight. I moved slowly, deliberately, letting the quiet settle around me instead of fighting it.In the corner by the wide windo

Emma’s POVThe executive appreciation night unfolded like something lifted from a travel magazine—soft amber lights strung between palms, the ocean breathing quietly beyond the terrace, glasses clinking, laughter carried on warm air. Everyone looked… lighter. Sun-kissed. Effortlessly polished in linen, silk, and easy smiles.I told myself to blend in. To be professional. To not scan the crowd for one particular man.And then I felt it.I didn’t have to look to know he’d seen me—but when I did, his reaction still caught me off guard. It was brief. A mix of surprise and admiration. The way his gaze lingered half a beat longer than necessary. The way his shoulders squared, like he was grounding himself. For a second, neither of us moved. Then someone spoke to him, the moment broke, and I exhaled slowly—annoyed with my own racing heart.Get it together.Dinner passed in a blur of polite conversation and practiced smiles. I was halfway through nodding at something a regional director was

  • Divorce and Regret: Chasing My Famous Lawyer Ex-Wife   Chapter 178 – The Answer

Brandon’s POVThe call came just as I was reviewing contracts I’d already read twice.“Nathan,” I answered, leaning back in my chair. There was a beat of silence on the other end. Then, dry and edged with something I couldn’t quite name, he said, “Well. I guess I’ll be turning over my lakehouse keys now, huh?”My spine straightened. “You heard?”A short, humorless laugh. “Hard not to. Word travels fast when you’re not the favorite.”I didn’t respond right away.“So,” he continued, sarcasm sharpening his tone, “he left it to your ex-wife. Of course he did. His favorite.” Another pause. “You got the mansion. And me?” He scoffed. “A measly lot somewhere remote. Probably the least valuable thing he owned.”“Nathan—”“He never treated me like family anyway,” he cut in. “So I guess this just confirms it.”I stared at the city through the glass wall of my office, the view suddenly distant. I was just quiet for a while, perhaps choosing the right words or thinking of how to respond. No matte

  • Divorce and Regret: Chasing My Famous Lawyer Ex-Wife   Chapter 177 – In the Lakehouse

Natalie’s POVThe lakehouse was quiet and beautiful. Not empty—never that—but still in a way that felt intentional, like the space itself knew how to hold its breath. Sunlight filtered in through the wide windows, glinting off the water beyond, the lake stretching out calm and patient as if it had been waiting.I stood just inside the door for a moment, letting the stillness sink into me.The first time I’d been here surfaced easily. Not long ago, I’d come with Brandon and met up with Nathan and Carmilla. It had been awkward and tense, definitely. But the encounter inside this house wasn’t what stuck with me for a long time. It was when Brandon and I ended up having lunch together in a lovely rustic place by the lake. Nothing fancy, but still quite romantic. That was the first time we’d talked about our past, reminisced childhood memories, really shared ourselves and laughed together. I remembered thinking how easy it was to talk to him when we weren’t surrounded by expectations. H

  • Divorce and Regret: Chasing My Famous Lawyer Ex-Wife   Chapter 176 – Awake But Silenced

Nathan’s POVThe drive back to the city was quiet. Not the comfortable kind. The kind that pressed against your ears, filled with things left unsaid. Carmilla sat beside me, seatbelt fastened, gaze fixed on the road ahead. No sarcasm. No commentary.I told myself it was better this way. And yet, I couldn’t forget that passionate kiss we’d shared right before she’d pulled away. She didn’t say anything to me afterwards. She just went into the bathroom, took a shower, and then said, “Let’s go home.” I kept my eyes on the road, knuckles tight around the steering wheel. Then my phone rang.I glanced at the screen. Unknown number. Hospital exchange. My gut tightened.“Hello? Yes?” I answered.“Hello. Is this Mr. Nathan Graveswell?” a man asked briskly. “This is Dr. Velasco from St. Margaret’s. I’d just like to inform you that Mr. Brunner regained consciousness about twenty minutes ago.”“What?” I said, already slowing down. “Is he stable?”“Yes. Disoriented, but responsive. He’s asking qu
