•Juliet’s POV•

"Mommy, I don’t feel so good," Jace said softly as I stepped into his room. He sat slouched on the edge of his bed, his tiny arms resting limply on his lap. I immediately walked over and sat beside him, brushing a hand over his forehead, then to his neck.

"What’s the problem, baby?" I asked, concern etched into my voice.

He shifted uncomfortably and sat up straighter. "I just don’t feel like going to school today," he mumbled, avoiding my gaze.

I narrowed my eyes slightly, trying to read between the lines. "Why, baby? Are the other kids giving you a hard time? Or is it Mrs. Bianca?"

He shook his head, his expression solemn. "I just don’t want to go. The other kids at school kept talking about their daddy... but I don’t have one."

My heart twisted at his words. It felt like a sharp pin pricking somewhere deep in my chest. I hadn’t anticipated this, hadn’t prepared for the day Jace would begin to wonder, to question. I thought maybe when he turned ten or fifteen, I’d have

•Juliet’s POV•I looked around, my eyes wide with wonder as they swept across James's lavish living room. Every corner of the space screamed wealth and power, the kind that makes you want to stare longer than normal. The walls were a deep espresso brown, contrasted by sleek, gold-trimmed panels that shimmered beneath the overhead light. Thick, floor-to-ceiling velvet drapes in royal navy framed the massive windows that overlooked the city skyline, giving the room a majestic look."This is incredible," I muttered, my gaze locking onto the chandelier that was hung up in the center of the room, its crystals sparkling under warm, golden light, casting shimmering patterns across the glossy black marble floor.“Make yourself comfortable, my love,” James said, his voice low.I smiled and stepped further into the room, the quiet sound of my heels tapping against the marble echoing softly. I lowered myself onto a plush, navy-blue couch, so soft it felt like I had sunk into clouds. James sat be

•Juliet’s POV•I typed slowly on the keyboard beside the monitor, wrapping up the final report for the day. After double-checking the entries, I let out a small sigh of relief and reached for the switch, powering off the system. The door creaked open, and I looked up just in time to see Vera stepping in with Jace clinging to her hand. His round cheeks puffed up in a smile the moment our eyes met.I stood up instantly, my heart swelling with warmth. As soon as Jace saw me, he let go of Vera’s hand and dashed across the room. His tiny arms wrapped around my waist in a tight bear hug.“How are you doing, my baby?” I whispered, bending to place a soft kiss on his curly head.“I’m fine, Mommy,” he cooed, resting his small hand on my shoulder with a content sigh.I wrapped my arms around him, holding him tightly against me, soaking in the comfort of his presence. A wave of relief washed over me, silencing the worry that had been on my mind all day.I looked up at Vera, who gave me a slight

•Edward POV•I slammed the car door shut with rage bubbling in my chest like a volcano ready to erupt. My fists were still clenched, the knuckles raw and throbbing, and the dull ache in my nose reminded me just how stupid I’d been. I wasn’t sure who to be mad at. Josh, for planting the idea in my head, or myself, for being foolish enough to go along with it.A streak of dried blood tugged at the corner of my nostril. I dabbed at it with the crumpled tissue in my hand, muttering under my breath. I should’ve gone to the hospital, or at least a pharmacy. But instead, I drove straight home, my thoughts consumed with everything I’d just learned. As I stepped into the house, a warm scent drifted toward me—sweet and buttery, tinged with vanilla. My stomach growled despite the tension clenching it. The aroma led me toward the kitchen, and with each step, I prayed it wasn’t Raya behind the smell. I was hanging on by a thread, and her face would be enough to snap it.The moment I stepped into t

•Edward’s POV•"Why leave so soon, Mr. Miles?" James said with a chuckle as I reached for the doorknob. "I mean, you came all this way to warn me, why not do it the right way?" He clicked his tongue, and my hand clenched tightly around the knob. "You and I still have unfinished business. Remember? You hit me that day at the diner.""If you don't shut up, I just might do it again," I growled, turning to face him.He scoffed, running a hand through his perfectly styled brown hair. "Hmph. Even here, in my territory, you’ve still got guts. I have to admit, I respect that. But I don’t understand why you’re so hung up on Juliet. Is it because you finally realized she’s better at business than you?"I walked back toward his desk, closing the distance between us with slow, deliberate steps. The smirk on his face didn’t waver, but I could see a flicker of tension behind his arrogant eyes.“I’m not here to compare empires,” I said, my voice controlled but sharp like a blade. “I’m here because J

•Edward's POV•I sat in the chair in my office, a blank sheet of paper before me and a pen in my hand, its tip tapping rhythmically against the page as I thought about what Josh had said. Was it even a good idea to have a one-on-one conversation with James Grigs? After all, he was Juliet’s husband. So what difference would it make? The more I tried to stay out of Juliet’s business, the more I realized how scared I was that James might do something terrible, something irreversible.I sighed heavily, brushing a hand through my hair, my fingers tugging slightly at the roots. My eyes fell to the car keys lying on my desk, and I bit my lower lip, thoughts swirling like a storm inside my head. Maybe, just maybe, this was another chance to show Juliet that I wasn’t the man who once hurt her. That I’d changed. With another long breath, I rose from the chair, grabbed the keys, and walked purposefully toward the door.———The engine hummed beneath me as I steered through the Manhattan traffic,

•Juliet POV•James slowly pulled away from the kiss, our faces still only inches apart. Droplets of water trickled down his forehead, catching the glint of moonlight. His eyes, burning with something deeper than desire, met mine with a quiet intensity. As his hands stayed on my waist, warm and firm under the surface of the water.“Juliet,” he murmured, his voice low, almost uncertain. “I've been waiting to get a response from you, I just want to know that you'll be my girl?”I blinked, my heart slamming against my chest. A mix of emotions swelled within me, joy, nervousness, a flicker of fear. But as I looked at him, wet hair plastered to his forehead, tattoos glistening, and those amber eyes holding only me in their gaze, I felt a calm wash over me.A small laugh escaped my lips as I rested my hand on his shoulder, the muscles beneath my palm taut with anticipation.“Yes,” I whispered, smiling up at him. “I just hope you won’t break my heart.”James’s expression shifted, the corner o

•Juliet’s POV•I smiled, my gaze fixed on James. “You’re welcome.” I looked away from his gaze toward Vera, who seemed to be staring a little too hard at him.She looked at me once more and mouthed, “Jeez, he is hot.”I let out a slight laugh as I helped myself to the vegetables and turkey, picking a little from each of the dishes onto my plate. I glanced in Jace’s direction, and he seemed focused on his food, nowhere near as cheerful as he was when he first saw James. I wondered why.The dinner went on, with James sharing a few stories about his family dinners, ones he enjoyed as a kid. He even tried to talk to Jace, but received a stiff response as Jace just looked at him without a word. After dinner, Mrs. Carl cleared the table, Vera took Jace to his room, and Eric kept eyeing James suspiciously before he excused himself and left the kitchen.“I think we should go out for some fresh air. What do you think?” James said with a smirk, walking over to take my hand.I blushed at the war

•Juliet's POV•Walking into the living room with Jace balancing two nylons full of ice cream cups and Vera lounging on the couch while typing rapidly on her phone, I couldn’t help but feel the cozy hum of the evening settle around us. Jace, with his usual enthusiasm, led the way straight to the kitchen where Mrs. Carl was preparing dinner. The scent of freshly baked turkey filled the air, mingling with the aroma of mashed potatoes laced with butter and garlic, roasted vegetables glazed with honey, and a pot of rich tomato soup that simmered quietly on the stove. Mrs. Carl's attention shifted from the bubbling soup to Jace, her face lighting up with a delighted smile."Mrs. Carl, I brought ice cream for you!" Jace beamed, lifting one of the nylon bags up toward her with pride. Her eyes widened in surprise as she quickly wiped her hands on her apron and came over, gently collecting the nylon from him. Peering into the bag, she gasped dramatically. "Wow, my love," she said, placing a han
