NILAH

The heat coming off Darien's body was too much. It burned right through the freezing rain soaking his clothes, radiating off his skin in waves that made my head spin. He kept my wrists pinned tight above my head with one massive hand, his grip like steel around my bones. I couldn't move an inch. His other hand slid down my waist, his rough, calloused fingers digging into the soft flesh of my bare thigh, forcing my legs apart until I was completely open to him against the wall.

DARIENMy hands were covered in blood. Warm, sticky, and dark, it dripped steadily off the knuckles of my right hand, splashing onto the floorboards of the ruined nursery.I couldn't feel the pain from the deep slash across my forehead, nor the sharp throb in my broken left shoulder. The adrenaline that had driven me to tear Viktor Vane and his men apart with my bare hands was completely gone, leaving behind a cold, hollow emptiness that swallowed my chest whole.I stood frozen in the doorway, staring across the shattered room. The icy midnight air rushed through the broken floor-to-ceiling glass, sending the soft green curtains flying wildly through the air like screaming ghosts.Nilah stood right by the edge of the jagged opening. She wasn't moving. She wasn't shaking. She was standing completely upright, holding the tiny, white-blanketed bundle pressed flat against her chest."Nilah," I choked out. The word barely left my throat, torn to pieces by the heavy gasp that followed it.S

  • Divorced, Desired, Dangerous    Chapter 90: A LIFE FOR ANOTHER

NILAHThe quiet inside the penthouse felt different tonight. In the nursery, baby Alexander was fast asleep in his solid light oak crib. He had been fed an hour ago, his small stomach full, his tiny hands curled into loose fists over his soft cotton blanket.I was sitting in the corner rocking chair, watching his chest rise and fall in a slow, steady rhythm. The soft green forest mural painted on the wall caught the pale yellow glow of the nightlight, casting gentle shadows across the quiet room.Darien stepped into the nursery without making a single sound on the dark hardwood floor. He had taken off his dark blazer, his white dress shirt unbuttoned at the neck and his sleeves rolled up past his elbows, showing the dark ink covering his broad forearms. He walked over to the crib with slow, quiet steps, placing his large hands gently on the top rail. The cold, dangerous look that usually stayed in his dark gray eyes softened completely as he stared down at our sleeping son."He sleeps

  • Divorced, Desired, Dangerous    Chapter 89: HIS EMPIRE

NILAHThe drive from the hospital back to the penthouse was the quietest car ride of my entire life.Normally, when we moved through the city in the heavy black SUV, Darien was on his phone the whole time. He would be giving sharp orders to his team, reviewing financial papers on his tablet, or staring out the dark tinted windows with a cold, serious expression on his face.Today was completely different. The SUV moved at half its usual speed. Marko was driving with extreme care, avoiding every bump in the road as if he were carrying pure glass in the back seat.Darien sat right beside me in the spacious back seat, his broad frame leaning close to mine. He had his left arm wrapped firmly around my shoulders, holding me close to his side. In his right arm, he held the navy blue baby car seat, his large hand resting flat over the handle to make sure it didn't wobble even a tiny bit.Inside the car seat, baby Alexander was fast asleep, wrapped in a soft white wool blanket."Is he too col

  • Divorced, Desired, Dangerous    Chapter 88: A NEW FAMILY

NILAHThe private recovery suite fell completely still once the night nurses left. The low hum of the medical monitors filled the room, steady and soft. Outside the large floor-to-ceiling windows, the city lights of Milan stretched far into the dark distance, silent and distant. The room was warm, smelling faintly of clean linen and baby powder. The heavy double doors were closed tight, keeping out the cold hospital hallway and the four armed guards Marko had placed outside.I sat propped up against three wide white pillows on the hospital bed, wearing a soft cotton gown. My body was completely drained. My hips ached with a deep, heavy tiredness, and my skin felt warm from the long labor. But every bit of pain felt small compared to the peace sitting in the room right now.Darien sat on the edge of the mattress directly beside me.He had not moved an inch for over twenty minutes. He was still wearing his dark trousers, but his collar was unbuttoned, and his sleeves were rolled up to h

  • Divorced, Desired, Dangerous    Chapter 87: WELCOME TO THE WORLD

NILAH’S POVThe delivery room was filled with the steady, rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor. The lights had been dimmed, casting a soft, warm glow over the quiet space. The pain had completely changed over the last hour. It was no longer a sharp cramp; it was a heavy, crushing pressure low in my pelvis that made my entire body tremble with exhaustion.Sweat was dripping down my forehead, soaking the stray dark hairs around my face and neck.Darien had not moved from my side for a single second. He was down on his knees beside the hospital bed, his broad frame bent over as he held my right hand in both of his massive palms. His knuckles were pale from how tightly I was squeezing him, but he did not complain once."You are doing so well, my love," Darien whispered, his deep voice trembling with a soft, raw emotion I had never heard from him before. "You are so strong, Nilah. So brave."He reached up with a damp, cool cloth, gently wiping the sweat from my cheeks and temple. His fier

  • Divorced, Desired, Dangerous    Chapter 86: FIRST HIT OF LABOUR

NILAHThe penthouse was quiet on Friday evening. I was sitting on the broad leather sofa in the living room, wearing an oversized grey sweater and loose cotton pants. My feet were resting on a soft stool because my ankles were swollen from the pregnancy.Darien was sitting at the wooden dining table behind me, working on his laptop. He had three black folders open in front of him, reading through business reports. My due date was still two weeks away, so we thought we had plenty of time.At seven o'clock, I stood up from the sofa to get a glass of water from the kitchen. The moment my feet hit the floor, a sharp, tight pain squeezed my lower belly.I froze, holding my breath. I waited five seconds, expecting the pain to pass like the normal braxton hicks contractions I had felt all week.Instead, a warm wave of fluid spilled down the inside of my legs, soaking my cotton pants and dripping onto the light carpet. My water had broken."Darien," I called out softly. He did not look up fro
