"Isn't that your husband?" Layla asked with shock in her voice.
"I guess it is." Amara sighed heavily.
They were at the annual ball, and instead of dancing that close with her, Amara's husband had his body pressed against another woman's body.
Well, not just any other woman.
Katherine Thorn, his high school sweetheart. The love of his life.
Beautiful blonde hair, slender body, and brown eyes. While Amara was shamed for being too fat, Kate was the star of every show, turning heads everywhere she went.
She was the full package. Everything that Brandon dreamed of. She rejected him in the past, and now that she was back, nothing would stop him from making her his. Even if it meant humiliating his wife of ten years.
Amara watched with a painful heart as the murmurs in the background continued. Looks of pity were thrown her way, and a part of her just wanted the ground to open up and swallow her whole.
'How could he do this to me? In public, for that matter?' Amara thought on the verge of tears, but she remained strong.
She wasn't going to let anyone see her break. Even if everything seemed like it was slowly crumbling down, she would keep her head held high.
Because that is who she was, a strong woman who had survived years of humiliation and body shaming.
Amara was a brunette with green eyes and a body most frowned upon. She was the exact opposite of what Kate was: Brandon's dream woman.
To add to her misery, she was constantly laughed at for being unable to give Brandon an heir he wanted so badly.
She took slow strides towards the center of the hall, where other couples were dancing too.
"Can I cut in? I'd like to have a word with my husband."
Brandon stiffened like he had forgotten he was married, to begin with. Amara scoffed at his reaction and waited, but to her shock, he looked at her with coldness in his eyes.
"No. We can talk at home, lose a few kilos if you want to be seen with me in public, Amara," he responded in a dismissive tone. Looking around as if talking to his wife in public was shameful to him.
Kate giggled at that response as she pushed herself even closer to Brandon. “I’m getting cold, Brandy. Can I have your jacket?”
“Of course,” Brandon responded as he took off his jacket and placed it around Kate.
"Brandon," Amara called through clenched teeth. Trying to keep her voice low.
But Brandon ignored her and pulled Kate along with him, and walked away. Leaving her standing all alone in the middle of the hall.
The world started to spin as the humiliation got worse. They were so deep in their conversation that they didn't realize that the music had stopped. All eyes were now on her; some shook their heads, and others whispered.
Some even mocked her openly about how money could never keep a man.
"She thought her riches were everything, but look at her now!" some whispered.
"I hear she's barren, but she's been refusing to let him have a child elsewhere. So selfish!" Another added.
"It must be so painful being that fat and ugly." Kate's friends giggled in the corner.
Amara felt all the strength she had slowly leave her. She felt her knees weaken as she stumbled when someone held her,
"Please let's go, Mrs Foster."
It was Gareth, Brandon's right-hand man.
Recognizing the familiar face, Amara nodded as he led her out of the ball.

Hours later, Amara had long reached home and taken a shower, forced herself to have dinner alone, but Brandon was nowhere in sight.
She hoped Brandon would come home that night so that she could speak to him. She loved him and hoped they could still work things out. They had been married for ten years after all.
Amara was eighteen when she met the twenty-two-year-old Brandon. They were at the same college, and through their families, they met often, and for Amara, it was love at first sight.
Brandon was in love with Kate, and everyone knew it, but she didn't care.
Especially after Kate had rejected him in public several times.
'I'll make him love me. I’ll help him heal his broken heart," She would say to herself since she was told she would be his wife.
The two companies started to face problems, and both fathers suggested Brandon and Amara get married to unite the power.
Amara was so happy when she received the news, not knowing what the future had in store for her.
Her mother trained her and made sure she was a perfect heiress and wife. Amara was taught never to argue in public or talk back when her husband was speaking. She was taught that a perfect lady doesn't cry in public and looks confident and beautiful all the time.
"If he's looking at another woman, then you must be doing something wrong. Always be perfect. Do you understand?" Her mother would say.
But even after being the perfect wife and vice CEO, she was still struggling to keep her marriage from falling apart.
With a heavy sigh, she stood from where she sat and decided to wear a pretty dress. The short, tight black dress that Brandon loved so much.
"He might have danced with another, but he's still my husband. He always comes back home to me, right?." She whispered as she started to apply makeup.
As she was trying to add the eyeliner, it slipped and ruined her entire makeup. Amara looked at her failed attempt as tears started to fall.
She swallowed the lump in her throat and wiped the tears, which created an even bigger mess. Frustrated, she picked a wet wiper and cleaned her face when she heard the door open.
The heaviness in her chest felt lighter because Brandon was home.
"I was right!" She stood excitedly when she rushed downstairs, but froze midway when her eyes fell on Kate.
"What is she doing here?" Amara asked. Hoping there was some sort of explanation that would make sense.
"Calm your tits down, Amara. You're still my wife. Kate will now be staying with us." Brandon said nonchalantly.
"Why would I let that happen?" Amara asked, her voice breaking and her heart burning with anger.
"Because she's giving me the one thing that you couldn't, she's pregnant. Now move!" He pushed her aside and pulled Katherine along with him.
Amara stumbled a few steps and landed on the floor as she watched her husband take another woman upstairs and broke down into tears.
“Fuck! Baby, are you okay?” Lucian's concerned voice asked as he steadied Amara.“I'm good. Just a little shaken. Can we go home?” She asked.“Of Course.” Lucian agreed as he led her outside the restaurant. The ride was quick and soon, they arrived home. After receiving that warning from her lawyer, Amara was feeling a little under the weather. She had faced threats before, but none as severe as she was experiencing and she was afraid.“Are you okay?” Lucian asked as he reached for her hand and locked their fingers.“Yes, I am. I need to rest a bit.” Amara forced a smile. Lucian could see through her but he didn't want to push her when she was not ready so he nodded. Starting a war with people in power was dangerous, and if it was up to him, he would rather she stayed safe and left the revenge to him. He parked the car and opened the door for Amara. They walked into the elevator which was leading to the top floor of his penthouse. But before the door could close, Tony rushed forward w
“He has changed! I can't seem to control him the way I used to.” Katherine scarted the glass from the table and sent it flying across the room.“Calm down! We need to find a way to keep him rooted to us.” Lauren said. Her elections were in a week, and she couldn't afford any mistakes. Not if she wanted to win. “How! He has the whole world behind his back after he turned Amara's attack in his favor. He thinks he doesn't need us anymore!” Katherine said angrily. “I wouldn't want anything to do with your loud mouth either. You overreact, and you talk too much.” Lauren mocked, which earned her a cold laugh from Katherine.“Now I get it, you two made a deal behind my back, and now I'm left out” “Don't be ridiculous!” Lauren said as she stood and wore her cape and mask. “I'm leaving now, I can't be seen here. Don't do anything stupid, I know how to handle that little brat.” Lauren said.“I don't trust you. You could frame me for all I know.” Katherine protested. “I could. And I just migh
“Ohhh please! Don't act like you're fucking stupid Amara?” Katherine sneered as she stood. “You went after my man and so it's only obvious that I come and warn you!”Amara laughed, “I can see that you've lost your senses! Who the hell told you that I'd ever want trash?”Katherine's face reddened in anger as she lifted her hand to slap Amara but she held her wrist to block her and smacked her instead. “Ah!” Katherine cried when another slap reached the other side of her face making her stumble backwards.“Let me make myself clear Incase your brainless head is a little slow. Stay the hell away from me, because I might just double the pain I have in store for you!’ Amara spat coldly and pressed a button on her desk.Security came rushing in, “Is there a problem madam?” “Take this trash out!” Amara spat as she walked to sit behind the desk. Katherine's hands balled into fists, “You think this is over! It's far from over?” She screamed as the security team took her out.“You're right.” A
“Have you told Lauren to get me the best lawyer?” Brandon sneered at Katherine.“Of course, babe, I have you know I want you out of here faster than anyone.” Katherine said sadly.“Good, I need to get out and see Amara.” Brandon said.Katherine’s brows met, and her heart skipped a bit. She hated even just the mention of Amara’s name. “Why?”“That’s for me to worry about! Just get the damn lawyer, Kate.” Brandon spat coldly. What Katherine didn’t know was that Lauren had visited him and blamed him for all the misfortunes he was going through. According to her, if only he kept Amara by his side, none of these problems would have come his way.“Okay.” Kate said, and Brandon stood to leave, but she stopped him in his tracks, “Brandon?” Her voice was soft.“What!” He glared at her.Katherine flinched. She was shocked because of how cold Brandon sounded. She couldn’t possibly believe he was the same person. Katherine knew that if he wasn’t wrapped around her finger anymore, then it’d be har
“That’s high talk for someone like you. I mean You’re really pathetic. I agree with you for once, I would never be birthed by you! I don’t know what you have on Dad that he has turned a blind eye to your nonsense, but best believe, I’m coming for you!” Amara whispered, sending a shiver down Lauren’s spine. For once, she was on the receiving end of someone’s wrath, and she hated it. Amara stepped back and walked away. Lauren released the breath she was holding as she felt her knees weaken. With shaking hands, she took out her phone and dialed a number, “I have a job for you!”Back at the hospital, Brandon had woken up and found Amara sitting by his bedside and his face paled, “Amara, we were in love. Why are you doing all this?”“Love?” Amara laughed as she crossed her long legs and leaned back in her chair, “What I felt for you wasn’t love, Brandon.”Brandon’s face changed, and he stared at Amara angrily, “You think what you feel for that bastard is love?”Amara didn’t respond. She sto
“What plan can he have when he’s probably enjoying this!” Remmy snarled.“At your age, stressing will kill you faster than anything!” Lucian commented, and his father glared at him!“Sometimes I think you want me dead! You’re probably doing this on purpose!” Remmy spat. His heart was boiling and he always found an opportunity to argue with Lucian but what Morgana and Micheal didn’t know was that, behind his temper and anger lied a father who loved his son so dearly he would do anything to see him gain what he deserved. But what he wanted was a good woman to stand by his side because it could be lonely being so rich. Every woman who would approach him would only be after his wealth and not truly love him, and that’s what he wanted to avoid. At first, he loved Amara because she seemed decent, but the baggage that she came with made him change his mind about Lucian marrying her.“What?!” Morgana’s voice was in shock when she saw how the live had changed course.Instead of Brandon’s live f
