My mind traveled back to some weeks ago.

As usual, Dave had followed me to the office.

Although he was always blunt and cold towards me, he never disturbed me while I worked.

While I was busy testing out the new camera the company was about to invest in, he was engrossed in staring outside the large floor-to-ceiling window as he sat beside it.

That was when I took this photo.

Seeing the deep frown on his face as he stared at that particular spot, I'd thought he was sad because he missed his mother,

Yet, reading his expression clearly now, something tells me it was just a look of disappointment.

He'd known all along that I was his father, yet he chose to stay with me.

Dave was very smart and he could easily find Olivia, but he didn't.

Maybe he'd genuinely wanted to spend some time with me, and…

Where did I go wrong?

Was it when I shouted at him because of Jessica?

Was it because of the wedding?

But I'd apologized and the wedding was also canceled.

I stood and paced the space of my of

“Let's divorce.”His cold and low voice rang out in the empty living room. I froze in the doorway, and my bag dropped on the floor.Inside the dimly lit room, the moonlight streamed through the curtains, reflecting on Theo’s intimidating presence. He sat at the coffee table, his unwavering gaze on me devoid of any warmth. I must have heard him wrong. Maybe I've imagined those words in my excited state.D- Divorce. No way.My heart beat uncomfortably, and my palms were suddenly sweaty as I bent to pick my bag from the floor.Trying so hard to convince myself that he didn't say that, Theo confirmed it further by knocking the divorce papers on the table. “You can ask for anything you want. I won't treat you unfairly.” His cold words numbed me.I glanced up, my initial shock now replaced by a feeling of realization. My eyes fell on the divorce papers, my vision blurred suddenly with tears that clouded my eyes.So this is it. Since that day, I've been forcing myself to focus on work. I’ve been pushing myself not to think about what Theo said to me that day, trying to avoid everything that’s about to happen. The high concentration during the surgeries not only brings a sense of achievement but also helps me forget a lot of things. I've never been so inspired and motivated. I could go on like this with the hope that my mind will be completely numb eventually to all the horrible feelings I've had these past few days. But after a 4-hour surgery today, my body seems to have reached its limit.Unlike the usual fatigue I'd feel after an intense surgery, this is different. My head spun with dizziness, my forehead sweaty. My weakened calves made me unable to walk properly, and as I was about to lose balance, someone held me. “Dr. Olivia, are you okay?” A colleague helped me up.I don't even recognize who it is as I can't make out my surroundings properly, except for her familiar voice.“You’ve been working too

My lips parted, yet, I could utter no words. Why is he here? Am I seeing wrong?Have I heard him wrong?Ever since I started working in this hospital, Theo has never stepped foot in it.For a moment, my heartbeat woke back to life. I almost believed that he was here for me…until,“Theo, Oh, you're finally here.” Jessica's light voice, weak and desperate, called out from the bed. “What took you so long, Honey?”She attempted to get down from the bed but ended up falling. The crashing sound echoed inside the ward as the IV stand fell in the process.Theo tore his gaze off me, an alarming look flashing in his eyes.In a split second, he was by her side, scooping her off the floor. “That's very dangerous. Be careful.”He gently carried her back onto the bed, his voice unusually tender and soft. “I'm seriously injured, Theo.” Jessica sobbed in his arms, burying her head in his chest. “I should have listened to you and not attend that event. My bones are weak, I can't even walk anymore

Theo doesn't find it awkward, doting on Jessica in public. It just shows how much she means to him.The nausea I had been feeling since morning returned. “Dr. Olivia, I know you don't like me. But, anyway, I want to thank you.” Jessica stepped forward, stopping a few inches from me.I thought she had left with Theo after dinner. Why did she follow me?What does she mean? “I don't get it,” I replied, expressing my confusion. “For what do you thank me?”If it's for treating her leg, I think we've long passed that. Jessica has already thanked me at the hospital. If she hadn't summoned me then, I wouldn't have been graced with the opportunity to realize that she was actually Theo’s first love. Wasn't it too coincidental? Was it merely fate?“First of all, I'd like to thank you again for saving my leg.” Jessica smiled. “Secondly, I appreciate that you agreed to let me and Theo be together. Back then, we were forced to separate, and I thought we could never be together. Now you agreed to the divorce...""Who said I agreed to divorce?” I interrupted her, finding her words puzzling and her kindness strange, in fact.I wonder how she was abl

However, it only intensified.“Where do we go, Ma’am?” Asked the driver who's trying to peek at me through the rearview mirror.”“The First Hospital, please,” I breathed out. This pain isn't caused by the uterus or other parts. The pain comes directly from my stomach, which is weird. But, I've always been in good health and haven't experienced any digestive issues before. Is it because I've overworked my body recently?Probably, I've accumulated quite a bit of negative emotions over the past few days, causing this sudden intense pain in my stomach. After all, the stomach is an emotional organ.Maybe it's acute arthritis.Leaning against the backseat’s chair, I keep holding my belly, wondering if this growing pain will ever stop. “Can you drive faster, please?” I urged the driver. The ride was taking forever. …Theo's POV What a wasted effort.Another failed mission.I slammed the steering wheel several times, the loud honking of my car echoing on the long highway.Stuck in a tight traffic, my frustration increased drastically. Why's she giving me a hard time? Why's everyone against me?I can't believe Dave would reject me too. He never really liked me, but I'd looked forward to a different reaction from him. I was so close.Very close. I could get a strand of his hair, carry out the DNA test, and get my own physical evidence-If only Dave hadn't raised an alarm.Of course, I didn't mean to take him away. I'd planned to return him once we were done shopping and I also got what I wanted. But my little trick didn't work. What now?Do I have to return to that place? What if I don't find her there, what if she runs to another place? My phone rang but I ignored it.Currently in a bad mood, I don't want to speak with anyone. However, the phone call persisted. Seeing Jessica's name on the

I turned around, nodding to his question.Reading the seriousness on his face, I could guess he wanted to discuss an important topic.“I'm all ears,” I said and sat on the bed. Ethan sat beside me. “Are you sure about this, Olivia? Me acting with you as a couple…”I looked down. Well, I hadn't thought much into it.That day, at the hospital, I jumped into the act when Dave addressed Ethan that way. I didn't think whether Ethan was comfortable with it or not, and I continued with the act whenever Theo was present at the scene. “Sorry for dragging you into this…” I looked up, reading his expression for any signs of discomfort. But Ethan smiled at me. “Why do you apologize? I'm not complaining. I just thought maybe that-”“Theo will see through our lies?” I completed his words, convinced that's what he wanted to say. Well, that's something else. I don't want Theo to know that I'm putting on this act all because of him. I have no problem with spiting him by acting like a couple wit

Was she cursed to spill every secret?I never knew the Nanny could be such a blabbermouth.I'd tried to hide this from Prof. Joanne as best as I could while upstairs in order not to increase her stress levels. The old woman had gone through enough shock for today, right? That's it.“You can leave now, Maya. Please don't find us until I call you.”“Ah, why not, Ms. Lawson?” Maya let go of the old woman and rushed to me. “I thought you had forgiven me already. Isn't that why you asked me to stay?”I only sent her inside, detecting that she could spill the truth in Theo’s presence after seeing her reaction when Dave called Ethan his Dad.Walking to the couch, I picked up my bag and brought out some cash. “Here's money for a taxi. And if Theo Wellington finds you and asks you anything, please don't spill a word.”Maya lowered her head, a look of realization flashing in her eyes.Nodding obediently, she apologized, “I'm sorry for every inconvenience I've caused you, Ms. Lawson- I truly am.

I cursed inside, tossed my phone aside, and rushed out.Damn! I shouldn't overlook this, knowing that Theo would try to take Dave away, I should have kept him beside me.On leaving the house, I found the man's car parked outside the small fenced gates and he's trying to make Dave sit in it.It wasn't only Theo convincing my son to get inside the car, but also the Nanny who I've just turned away.“Come on, Dave… Nanny will be you with, and Mr. Wellington is your Daddy. Don't be scared, Sweetie… we'll be back in a jiffy.”“Let go of me!” Dave shouted. “He's a bad guy.”“Hehe- I know it's sad that he accidentally made Grandma Joanne faint. Well, if he was a bad guy, you wouldn't have followed him to L.A., right? You knew all this time that he was your Daddy-”“You!” I stopped running, staring at the Nanny speechlessly. Seeing how hard she's trying to convince Dave to enter the car while Theo held the car's door open, the cunning man must have promised her something.“What do you think y

A Few Minutes Later I was lucky to bring Prof. Joanne back to her senses. The old woman was too weak to sit down, so I made her rest on her bed.“I thought you considered me your family, Olivia. Why did you hide this secret from me?” She complained. “Did you think that I wouldn't stand up for you because you're hiding from someone so powerful?”Shaking my head, I sighed. That wasn't my reason. In all these years, I didn't discuss Theo with her because I didn't like even the mention of his name.I'd lied to Prof. Joanne that Dave's father was someone insignificant and not worth mentioning because that's how I'd regarded Theo in my heart.“I'm so sorry, Professor. If I knew Theo would barge in on us-”“I understand…” The woman patted my hand and smiled weakly. “Now I know the reason behind your sudden visit. But you can't run from problems, Dear. Or they'll keep piling up.”Well, what do I do now?All thanks to the Nanny, Theo has found us. He has finally seen Dave, one of my worst f

Olivia's POV This neighborhood is so serene and secure, unlike the apartment building downtown buzzing with the activities of people.I should consider buying a house around here and moving here. This way, nobody could barge in or come here announced. “Why do you need a house when your time here is almost over, Dear?” Prof. Joanne asked me as we went through some research papers together.Well, I can't believe how fast time flies. It's five years already and the project will soon be over. “Actually, I'm considering staying behind…” I revealed. “I like it here in Geneva, Professor. I think I've adapted to life here.”“Uhm, that's strange.” The woman gave me an inquisitive look as if she didn't quite believe me. “Don't you miss your family in the U.S.?
