The physician’s face twisted in outrage as he glared at Harley and me. He wasn’t just any doctor—he was someone we trusted, practically our family doctor.
“Mr. Babylon, we need to talk,” he said, forcing a tense smile. “Mrs. Babylon, if you don’t mind, could you excuse us?”
Embarrassed and confused, I stepped out of the office. Our daughter, Harley, is physiologically challenged, but what had he discovered that he couldn't tell me?
Or is he hiding something from me? I'm her mother—I deserve to know everything about her.
From beyond the closed door, I caught only a few hushed words:
“Eight-year-old Harley Babylon is…”
The rest faded into silence. My heart raced like wildfire, pounding loudly in my ears.
A few minutes later, Richard pushed Harley’s wheelchair out of the office.
“Let’s go,” he said coldly. His voice was unfamiliar—detached and void of warmth.
He didn’t open the car door for me like he always did. Instead, he drove silently, passing the restaurant we had planned to visit without a word. His gaze was locked straight ahead, his face darkened by a deep scowl.
When we got home, Harley wheeled herself inside. Even she could feel the change in her father. Richard didn’t speak to her or touch her as he usually would.
Suddenly, he grabbed my wrist roughly and shoved me to the floor. He held an envelope in one hand.
“I don’t even know what’s inside this,” I said, terrified.
He threw the envelope on the bed.
“What’s this, Theresa? So this is who you are? How could you?” His voice was thick with pain and fury.
“What are you talking about?” I stammered, tearing open the envelope. My hands shook as I read the doctor’s report.
“No… this can’t be right. Richard, please—we can fix this. Harley is your child!” I fell to my knees, clutching his leg, pleading.
He bit his lip, trying to hold back emotion.
“Your tears won’t solve anything,” he muttered, sinking into the chair beside the bed.
“I... I don’t understand. I know nothing about this. Maybe we should get a second DNA test—at another hospital,” I begged.
“Leave me, Theresa!” he yelled, slamming his fist against the wall. “She’s a bastard.”
My breath caught. “Something isn’t right. You met me as a virgin—no man has ever touched me. This isn’t just hurting me—it’s traumatizing Harley.”
“I don’t care anymore,” Richard snapped, pointing at our daughter. “You know what, Theresa? Pack your bags—and hers. Get out of my house! I want a divorce!”
I'm
“A divorce?” I cried, gripping his arms. “After eight years of marriage? You really believe this?”
“Did you pity me when you deceived me?” he shouted. “I gave you everything. Is this how you repay me?”
“Richardson, wait—please. We can work through this.”
“No. I’m done. And there’s a good chance your unborn child isn’t even mine.” He ripped his arm away and stormed out.
Harley had been watching everything in silence.
“Mommy, what’s happening?” she asked, tapping my shoulder gently.
I was speechless.
“Everything will be fine soon, Harley,” I whispered, smoothing her bangs and kissing her forehead. “Dad’s just… angry.”
“I heard him say I’m a bastard,” she said, rubbing her eyes. “He used to be the best dad ever. Why did he change?”
“Don’t worry,” I said, stroking her hair. “We’ll be okay.”
I sat on the bed, stunned, replaying the nightmare that just unfolded. Something had gone terribly wrong. That doctor had ushered me out too quickly. And Delilah—Richard’s ex—had always been around, scheming. What if she tampered with the results?
Tears blurred my vision as I hugged Harley tightly. I had to act. I grabbed Richard’s spare car keys and drove straight to another hospital—Annoiting Hospital.
This is not over. I knew Harley was Richard’s daughter. I had to prove it—and expose Delilah if she had a hand in this. I have not been myself, my thinking weren't accurate. His ex— returned like a predator, devil and snake in the grass.
Our conversations and intimacy ended all because of a sheet of paper that doesn't guarantee any success. Countless memories of when we entwined our legs on the bed, thousands of screams while moaning. Many times when he pulled my waist, rolled his tongue with mine, in the shower having fun together.
I summoned courage, wiped my tears and headed to the hospital. Fear filled my heart, my mind thick with intrusive thoughts.
---
At the hospital, a nurse approached.
“Madam, our physiotherapist isn’t in today.”
“I need a DNA test,” I said firmly.
“A DNA test? I’m sorry, our lab technician is off today. You’ll need to come back tomorrow.”
Downcast, I turned away.
What will happen if Richard finds me back in that house?
“Arghh,” I groaned, slapping my forehead.
“What are we going to do, Mommy?” Harley asked softly.
I unlocked my phone and sent a message to Richardson on W******p:
> “Hey sweetie, I’m home—even though I’m not. Just wanted to see your reaction. I promise we’ll fix this.”
He was online, but didn’t respond.
An hour passed. I sat on the couch, holding Harley close. Then, his reply came:
> “I’ll send the divorce papers soon. Sign them ASAP. I don’t want you in my life anymore.”
On his W******p status, I saw a picture of him with Delilah—together in a romantic pose. It wasn’t a new picture.
So he had already reunited with his ex.
He was cheating. That explained everything.
“Oh my God,” I whispered, my body trembling. “I can’t take this anymore.”
I looked at Harley—sweet, innocent Harley.
It was time to stop living in denial.
“Richardson is not a good husband or father,” I said aloud, tears flowing. “I’m sorry, my dear Harley—and to m
y unborn child—but I have to protect you both. I’ll separate you from your father… and start over.”
As the flight took off, my emotions became numb. Richardson sent multiple texts and calls, I ignored. Tears slid my face, as I wiped it off, overwhelmed with thoughts and mental rehearsals of how to present the situation to my parents.Anticipation surged through me, my limbs became shaky. Fear pumped in my vessels. “What has Richard told my parents? Imagining how my brother's face will look like.”None matters, I am just disturbing the peace of my mind. I can't wait to become the new heiress of my family. The plane landed, my heart beat raced like wild fire. Hearing the lub-dub sound in my ears. Passengers rushed out of the plane, i stand still like an hopeless orphan in search of lost parents.Memories flashed back, the spot Richard proposed to me Right before my family and in public at the airport. His favourite scent wafted, causing pains, it felt like thorns in my skin piercing my soul. My mind drifted to my parents, I told them I am coming home with my child. I traced the cr
I swiftly opened my eyes to the Sunshine of the morning birds chirping and picking seeds by the window side of my room. The bright reflection of sunlight triggered my head ache, it was as if a truck ran me over. Laying next to Jayden, naked. The hickeys of last night still stuck in my head, unable to forget. I can still feel the orgasm. His phone rang with a sonic vibration I peeped through his phone. “Partner in crime calling…..” partner in crime calling…..” It's Richard, he usually refer to him as partner in crime.“Attend to his call!” Jayden forced the phone in my hands. “Hello!” I put the phone on speaker.“It sounds like Theresa. Is that you?” He sounded jealous.“It's me Theresa. You called Jayden's phone number.” I sounded cold like the love I have for him has faded off.He cleared his throat, “so fast, you have moved on with your life. Just a little misunderstanding, and you moved with jayden my best friend.” He said in a harsh tone. “Isn't it.” “What were you expecti
Stunned and dumbfounded, I stood at the door glaring at Harley and Jayden. Could Jayden be this caring? He took good care of Harley like she was his own daughter—so quick to adopt her.“Mommy!” Harley shouted, clearly happy to see me after the divorce. Her hair was smoothly brushed and styled.Buntings and rosy red flowers were tossed across the walls. It looked like someone was celebrating a wedding anniversary.Could it be Brooke? Jayden’s younger brother?Jayden gave me a tight hug and warm kisses. I was astonished but couldn't show it. What’s he up to? My skin froze like I had a frostbite. Shivers went down my spine. Blushes and excitement overshadowed me, but I was too shy to reveal it.Harley’s reassuring smile held me back from asking Jayden about the impromptu event. The sitting room tiles matched the wall painting and decor perfectly. The view of his living room was breathtaking and satisfying. A few of his family members—his brother, cousins, and friends—were present. His ho
I checked Richard's Facebook page. He had already changed his relationship status back to “Married to Delilah.” Now she was officially Mrs. Delilah Babylon. No kids yet, but he had posted a picture of himself kneeling before her, kissing her belly. The caption read:> “Expecting a baby soon. My faithful Delilah is expecting our first child. In my thirties, I finally get to have a biological child.”I wasn’t astonished or even disappointed. I just scrolled straight to the comments section. It was filled with congratulatory messages—and disgusting encouragement of his betrayal.Leonard: It’s better how you replaced Theresa. She’s not worth it. Disown Harley and start a new life!Jasper: Now you’re going to be a father. Huge thanks to Miss Delilah Babylon.Delilah: Thanks. Nothing can stop us. Let’s not make her jealous. So this had all been planned. I didn’t give a damn. I snapped photos of our signed divorce agreement and my doctor's report, then posted them with a caption:“I finally
My mind and body were restless like a truck had run me over—sores and pain all over. I couldn't think deeply, let alone bring back memories of the past. I lay flat on the bed, glaring at Harley in her prime.I stretched my body and reached for the water next to me while Jayden was dozing off.“What should I say? How can I face Richardson in the court of law?” I sank into melancholy and disbelief, thinking of how a beautiful journey of eight years ended in just a minute.“How’s your health and condition? Harley is more concerned,” Jayden raised a brow.I took a deep breath and exhaled heavily. “I am perfectly fine now.”“You are not, Mommy. What about Daddy? I miss him. I need to see him...”I shunned Harley. “He is not your daddy anymore. You are now fatherless.” I drew my emotions closer, as much as I was also wounded. Tears stung her eyes and she began to cry. I used my small piece of handkerchief to wipe off her tears.“It’s okay, Harley. Everything will be fine.” Jayden buried her
The morning light spilled through the curtains, casting a golden hue across the tangled sheets. I blinked against the brightness, my body aching as though I'd been hit by a truck. I reached out instinctively—but the space next to me was cold. Richard was gone.My hair was a tangled mess, frizzy and wild, much like the storm raging inside me. I turned to look at Harley, sleeping peacefully beside little Tommy. A deep ache clutched my heart. How would they ever adapt to this chaos? And now, another life growing inside me...My phone lit up—two missed calls from Richard. Then I heard her voice, floating in from the hallway. “Don’t worry, darling. Just leave her. She’ll understand soon enough.”The clicking of heels followed her words like punctuation. I didn’t have to look up to know who it was—Delilah. She entered the room, curls bouncing down her back, her beauty radiant and effortless. My heart sank.Is this what Richard left me for? I wondered bitterly. And then he walked in. Without
