Chapter 5

She got ready, wore a cute matching tan sweat set, paired with black lace up boots, some rings and a watch.  As she walked downstairs, she could already hear the bustling noises in the kitchen as their parents planned a not so surprising surprise and mind you which was the fault of the werewolf hearing and their parents being so predictable.  She entered the dining area, lo and behold, they all yelled surprise and each of them proceeded with hugging and wishing me happy birthday. Kylie hugged me last and whispered in my ear, “we are going to have lots of fun, like loads of it. And you won’t say no to anything today or I swear I am going to kill you.”

They all had prepared something for her, and she was quite surprised kylie bought her something since yesterday both were together. While her parents and brother all handed her their gifts.  Her brother so I kindly also offered to move all her gifts top her room, so I can open them later, probably the only day of the year when he offers to do anything for me. Normally, it was always opened in the living room, in the presence of everyone but this time was an exception considering the arrival of the most revered pack. And she needs to go and check over one last time the arrangement just to assure Luna, who she was sure was freaking out.

They all sat down to have a quick breakfast; her mother had already set the table with the help of her friend kylie beforehand. And it was a birthday special breakfast, which meant lots of good food and aching stomachs. By the time they were done, they were having trouble even sitting straight and just to point out the fact that werewolves had fast metabolism. She looks towards kylie to only see her with her hand on her stomach smiling like fulfilled Cheshire cat. They all helped her mother clean the table super-fast and then each left to play their roles in the pack.

Good thing, this time she had her dear best friend with her. Well, it looked like the whole pack was in chaos, like everyone had something to do. But did I not see over everything with Luna? Everyone was rushing around all the while wishing me happy birthday excitedly, only for it to twiddle the next second as they remembered the other occasion. They were all rushing around so it was hard to stop someone to ask for Luna’s location. So, she mind linked her and finally found her. She hugged me as she wished me and told me that she had my gift prepared and that it was something she would never expect and yet love it. Each year, the Luna gave the birthday person a gift, from the whole pack, which was super sweet. They saw over all details one last time and then the Luna asked them to follow her back to her own personal study.  They entered inside and then the Luna closed the door, she turned towards me excitedly and while looking me dead in the eyes said. “Now, I won’t claim this to be only from us, your parents wanted to give you something special this time along and contributed.” Then she took out a wrapped box from her table’s drawer, handing it to me she gestured for me to open it. Opening it was kind of scary at this point, but she continued to unwrap it and the packaging was pretty and expensive to say the least. Finally, she got to the last box which was apparent that it contained some sort of accessory, jewelry. She opened it and there lay one of the most beautiful necklaces she had ever seen, there also laid a card underneath where the box was before laid and on it was written the description of the item. It was a high quality 10 carat alexandrite inlaid in a rose gold pendant, with a chain.  She was pleasantly surprised to say the least, she had never expected to receive something like this and now she was like it was a coming to age sort of gift or something. Kylie finally broke the silence by exclaiming loudly, “oh my god! That right there is the most gorgeous thing I have ever seen.” She nodded, completely agreeing with her, “I love it and there are just no other words, I wasn’t expecting this and am pleasantly surprised. I feel like crying, and I don’t know where I am even going to wear it.” The Luna embraced her and muttered in her ear. “The occasion will present itself, there is a story written for everyone. And yours has yet to unfold, just like it was written. Now go and have fun.” What the Luna said was kind of cryptic, but kind of reassuring, having always considered her as a mother she knew whatever she meant would never come to harm her. She packed up everything and handed it to her, a tear slipping from her eyes as she pushed us both out the door. As I and kylie walked down the hallway still recovering from everything, her wolf was again starting to get anxious and frustrated?  “I don’t know why but Aria has been anxious the past few day and Luna’s words seemed to have made her excited again.” She finally shared this little information with kylie.  Kylie paused and looked towards her in silence for what felt like an eternity and then she said the worst thing she could have.

“Do you think we will find our mates in the same pack just like we wanted? Cause same pinch, my wolf hasn’t exactly been calm.” Her eyes widened as kylie’s words finally registered in her head. As she finally said something her words sounded more frantic this time rather than opposing. “No way. It must be something else because my wolf isn’t exactly going gaga over meeting her mate.” Kylie immediately corrected her, “your mate”. She retorted sulkily, “doesn’t matter”. And kylie just shrugged to that. As they finally got out of the pack house, Serena finally said. “Then let’s get started on that party early, shall we?” and kylie vehemently agreed with serena on this one. And they will face whatever comes next later.  The rest of the way till her house they walked in silence. Which both needed, despite having joked about this matter of finding their mates numerous times, it had never really loomed over their head like a soon to be reality.  While one of them had always been unaccepting of the concept of mates and one expectant of it, both were anxious due to it in this moment.

Soon as they both came to a stop in front of serena’s home, both settled on not thinking of it right then and enjoy her birthday, party, dance, drink and pass out. And that was the plan and that is exactly what they are going to do.  “Let this night turn out Hella fine.” Serena said out loud and kylie replied with an amen, making them both laugh out. That is all it took to put this topic at the back of their minds, at least for now.

They both entered her room with some drinks in each of their hands. Serena first put the necklace in her walk-in closet’s password protected locker/ jewelry drawer, which had fingerprint system in it, so it wasn’t really a hassle to open every time she needed to take something out. It wasn’t something which was a necessity considering they were in the pack but just for precautions, everyone had at least one of these installed.

Once putting the drinks down, they both started taking out all the stuff they bought yesterday.  One by laying everything on her bed in an organized mess, as kylie liked to call it. They stormed through the dresses, having to settle on at least one of them when they realized that it’s been long.  Doing their hair and makeup taking turns respectively, and serena had to add an artist’s touch on kylie while her own remained minimal. They both sprinted down, as fast as one can in heels anyway. They came to a stop suddenly when they saw Damon standing in between. He turned to his left and starting to complain about our outfits to someone they couldn’t yet, see. Her father came out of the door and looked towards us and his eyes widened in discomfort as he soon turned towards the door he just came out of again, probably for assistance from her mother.

As Liza came out and saw their outfits, she complimented both, completely crushing the men’s hope. Her father finally decided to speak up. “Darlings, maybe there is something else which might turn out to look even better?” her father accompanied that opinion with a nodding gesture, appreciative of his own insight. She decided to present her own point, accompanied by a little teasing. “Dad, isn’t it a good thing I decided to not go on that trip, just imagine the amount of clothes I would have to go through, and you wouldn’t have been there to help me decide. Excuse us for now, we are late already.” And out they went the door.

As they reach serena’s car, kylie speaks up “Imagine their expression if they saw our night outfit. Your father would have come with us, along with a stick in hand.” They both laughed together, already forgetting the whole ordeal with their wolves.
