Cassandra pointed at me, her soft voice echoing in the hallway.

That was when Aiden peeled his gaze from her, and the tender look on his face was instantly gone.

But instead of appearing confused, only fear and frustration flashed in his eyes.

He quickly let go of Cassandra,

While Cassandra trembled on the spot, staring at me fearfully like she'd seen the Grim Reaper.

“A- Annalise…” She staggered forward, her expression a mix of concern and wariness. “I— I heard you are sick. I'm so sorry about your miscarriage. I should have visited you at the hospital and offered my condolences—”

“Cassie and I are only here to meet a client.” Before Cassandra finished speaking, Aiden stepped forward, shielding her behind him protectively. “You didn't have to stalk us, Annalise. You should still be in the hospital.”

“Y-Yes.” Cassandra squeaked from behind him. “The client is from a very big company. Without Aiden’s help, I’ll never be able to meet him. Aiden worked day and night to make sure I got this appointment. Please don't misunderstand us, Annalise. It's only about work.”

Glancing from the anxious girl to the cautious man, I suppressed a chortle.

Right.

In the past, I was the foolish woman who would disregard her health to stalk a man who would rather be with another woman.

In the past, I would have followed Aiden to Cassandra’s place and pleaded with him to spare me at least a minute of his time.

In the past, I would literally cry on my knees, begging him to come home with me.

Aiden would disregard my pleas.

He would accuse me of being too desperate.

He would assure me that there was really nothing going on between him and Cassandra, and I was being too sensitive.

Even now,

He thought I had secretly followed them to make a scene.

To beg him to return home with me.

To accuse Cassandra of trying to snatch him.

I rolled my eyes, treating their words as air, and glanced at my wristwatch.

Tania hadn't gotten back to me.

She must have prepared the divorce papers by now.

Making a mental note to call her immediately I left here, I resumed walking, moving past the couple.

But Aiden grabbed my arm. And this time, confusion flashed in his eyes. “Annalise…”

“Mr. Harrison, I’m in a hurry. Can you please unhand me?”

My voice was low, my tone light but firm.

“Mr. Harrison?” Aiden stared at me as if assessing a strange object. “Annalise, are you alright—?”

“You’re still here!” The hopeful voice interrupted. Xander came striding down the hallway, his expression turning from frantic to blank the moment he noticed the other two people.

He stopped beside me, his eyes falling on Aiden’s hand that held my arm.

Masking the anger in his eyes with indifference, he looked at me. “Is this man bothering you?”

But the urgency in Xander’s tone gave his annoyance away.

Aiden immediately let go, more confusion swirling in his eyes. “Mr. Sterling, do you perhaps know her?”

Xander just stared at him.

The awkward silence stayed for a few seconds, before Aiden cleared his throat, quickly extending his hand. “By the way, it is a pleasure to meet you. We are very sorry for arriving just now. We didn't know you would be here in person.”

“Uhm, Mr. Sterling…” Cassandra stepped forward, smiling bashfully. “I… I mean, we feel honored that you came here to meet us in person. The HR manager didn't say that you would come, but here you are…”

As if he'd rather be anywhere else but here, Xander glanced at his wristwatch impatiently.

And before leaving, he grabbed my hand and walked out of the hotel with me.

“What are you doing?”

“We aren't done speaking yet, Big Sis.” Outside the building, Xander gave me a desperate look. “Can’t you see how difficult it is for me to keep this stoic persona? By the way, who's that scumbag who tried to harass you in the hallway?”

I let out a tired sigh.

“Besides, you didn't even touch the food and you look hungry,” Xander added. “Big Sis, tell me. What should I do to make you come home?”

True, I was hungry.

And I’d rather be anywhere aside from this hotel. Because, Aiden was nearby, and I might also faint from exhaustion.

Thankfully, one of the bodyguards rushed forward and whispered something in his ear.

Xander cursed under his breath before turning to me. “Hang in there, Big Sis! I'm still coming back!”

He soon left with his entourage of cars and bodyguards. I didn't spend another second there either.

As I walked out of the hotel, my phone rang and I brought it out to see Tania’s name flashing on the screen.

Finally!

I answered at the first ring.

“Hello—”

“What the hell is going on, Anna?” Tania’s voice resounded through the speakers. “I took an entire day searching, and there's still no single record that you and Aiden have ever been married!”

Annalise’s POVIt happened so suddenly that I felt the world spinning. When his lips touched mine, my mind went completely blank. For the briefest second, time seemed to collapse into itself;A forgotten afternoon beneath an old tree,A younger him laughing as he brushed flour across my cheek while we attempted, and utterly failed, to bake cookies,Rain falling around us as he pulled me beneath his umbrella, his forehead resting lightly against mine,“Annie… You’ll always be safe with me.”Then,The memory shattered.Reality crashed back with brutal force. I shoved him away. Hard.He stumbled back half a step, more surprised than hurt.My heart pounded violently against my ribs. Not because of the kiss. Because I’d allowed my mind to remember, for even a second.“What do you think you’re doing?” My voice came out sharper than I’d intended.Andrew merely lifted one eyebrow.“So…” A faint trace of sarcasm colored his voice.“We’re pretending you didn’t enjoy that?”My fists clenched.Fo

Andrew’s POVFor the tenth time, I glanced at my wristwatch. It had been thirty minutes. The plane should have landed long ago.I drummed my fingers once against my knee.Jonas wasn’t incompetent. If he hadn’t returned yet, either he’d somehow missed her, or something else had delayed them.Neither possibility improved my mood.My patience wore thinner by the second.Just as I reached for the door handle, the revolving glass doors of the arrival terminal turned,And she walked out.My hand froze. She wore a simple ivory blouse tucked neatly into charcoal wide-leg trousers, the clean lines emphasizing her taller, leaner frame. Her long dark hair rested loosely over one shoulder, moving gently with each step. There was nothing extravagant about her outfit. Nothing that begged to be noticed.Yet, People noticed.Years ago, she’d been softer. A little rounder in the cheeks. Cute, in fact. The kind of girl who made people instinctively want to smile back. Now, The softness had sharpene

Annalise’s POVThe Next DayWe left the minister’s residence shortly after breakfast and headed for Nile Horizon Investment Group, one of Egypt’s leading investment and infrastructure firms. The ride was peaceful.Too peaceful.Outside the window, Cairo bustled with its usual energy. Cars flowed through broad avenues, street vendors arranged colorful displays beneath striped awnings, and the morning sun bathed the sandstone buildings in a warm golden glow. The Nile appeared every now and then between rows of palm trees, its waters glimmering beneath the clear sky.Inside the car…I could feel Linda’s eyes on me. Again. And again. She wasn’t trying to hide it anymore. Curiosity was practically written across her face. She lasted until we arrived. The company’s headquarters occupied an entire city block. The sleek glass building reflected the surrounding skyline, while polished granite pillars framed its revolving entrance. A row of national flags fluttered outside, and executives in ta

Andrew’s expression didn’t change, the empty space echoing his words.“If I were here to play,” he said evenly, “I would’ve stayed home.”His eyes never left mine. His voice remained calm, almost conversational. “I left an entire business empire behind and followed you across countries. Do you really think I came all this way for amusement?”Before I could answer, he took another step closer. The distance between us disappeared.Without warning, his fingers caught a loose strand of my hair that had escaped my veil.He slowly tucked it behind my ear.The gesture was so gentle that my body reacted before my mind did.I stiffened.“You remember the promise we made ten years ago.” His voice dropped lower, his fingers lingering for only a heartbeat before falling away. “I haven’t gone back on mine. And I won’t tolerate you going back on yours.”A promise?I searched my memory. There had been so many promises. Childish ones. Hopeful ones. The future had seemed so simple back then. Before I

A magnificent crystal chandelier hung from a ceiling adorned with intricate Islamic geometric patterns and hand-painted gold details. Massive marble columns lined both sides of the hall, while floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked lush gardens where fountains shimmered beneath the afternoon sun.At the center stood a dining table long enough to accommodate several dozen guests.Only four seats, however, had been prepared. The moment I stepped inside, my eyes found him.Andrew Hale.He sat beside Amira’s husband with the same composed posture that always made him seem as though he belonged wherever he was.Across from him, the man who could only be Minister Omar El-Sharif was speaking warmly.“Our government has been very pleased with the progress of the upstream ener

Annalise’s POV The taxi drove through towering wrought-iron gates that opened onto an estate unlike any I had seen before.A broad stone driveway curved gracefully through immaculate gardens filled with date palms, jasmine, and blooming bougainvillea. Marble lanterns lined both sides of the path, their intricate carvings casting delicate patterns across the ground even beneath the afternoon sun. In the distance stood an enormous mansion, its creamy sandstone walls glowing warmly beneath the Egyptian sky.The architecture blended traditional Arabian elegance with modern luxury.Towering arches framed the entrance. Delicate geometric carvings decorated the walls, while vast floor-to-ceiling windows reflected the gardens surrounding the estate. Domed rooftops rose behind the main building, and slender palm trees swayed gently in the warm breeze, softening the grandeur of the place. The taxi came to a stop before a circular courtyard. At its center, a magnificent marble fountain sent cr
