Leo had practically forced his way into the kitchen to help. While his chaotic cooking methods earned him a terrifying death stare from Cassie, the final meal was incredible. He put on loud music, which filled the silence that had been suffocating them and whispered stories to Cassie that made her laugh so hard she cried. Cassie sadly realized she hadn't heard that sound in days.

When Leo was about to leave, he stopped by the door and tapped Dom's hand. “Whatever this whole tension is about, you need to fix it and fix it fast. You're in a very tight spot at the moment and you need to be a hundred percent committed to each other if you want to win. Don't let pride swallow something beautiful.”“I don't need lectures from you.” Dom shot back but it was playful. “I am going to be back tomorrow. We can't work with you both like this” And then he was out the door. Slamming it shut behind him. Long after he left, they sat in silence staring at things other than themselves. Cassie stood

  • Dumped by the Heir, Claimed by his Brother    CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE

Cassie woke up on the couch. She had cried her eyes to sleep but stayed in the living room making sure Dom didn't sneak out of the house before she woke up like yesterday. Her neck was stiff and her blanket had fallen to the floor at some point during the night. The house was quiet, which meant Dom wasn't up yet. She stood up, folded her blanket and started walking upstairs when her eyes caught the coffee mug on the side table. She reached out for it and it was still warm. Dom had come downstairs? She picked up the mug and sipped it slowly, it tasted the way he liked it. Two sugars, a splash of oat milk, a hint of vanilla. Just then she realised that something was off. If Dom had made coffee, it means he was up, but if he was, the house wasn't supposed to be this quiet. She rushed to the front door while hoping what she was thinking wasn't true. But when she pushed the curtain aside, the key hole was empty. And that only meant one thing. They removed the key when someone had to l

  • Dumped by the Heir, Claimed by his Brother    CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR

Dom left before Cassie woke up. A note on the kitchen counter simply said: “Something came up, might be back late. Don't wait up."Cassie stared at the note and immediately felt the weight of last night's betrayal pressing down on her chest. She knew Dom enough to know that nothing came up. He was just going to work his ass off in the office till night fall to avoid seeing her. What hurt wasn't the note itself. It was how unlike him it felt. Dominic usually made coffee and mostly worked from home. And if he leaves he would usually leave a sarcastic comment scribbled at the bottom of a grocery list or a reminder for her to eat.But this note lacked the warmth of the man she had grown to love. It felt like something he would leave for a colleague rather than his partner.Cassie folded the paper and wrapped her fingers around it. She wanted to be angry with him for shutting her out, but all she felt was guilt. She had put that distance between them herself. She had watched him trust her

Dom pulled into the garage and was walking through the door in seconds. When Cassie got into the main building, Dom was already upstairs. She could hear him moving around in his office, objects being moved with force and then, a crash. "Dom," she called, climbing the stairs. "Let me explain."He ignored her."Dom, please. Just listen to me for one second.""I don't want to hear it." His voice came from inside the walls of the office. "I don't want to hear your excuses or explanations or whatever story you've prepared this time around."Cassie pushed open the office door and there he was, standing at the window with his back to her. His entire body was stiff with anger and his hands were clenched into fists at his sides."You lied to me," he said without turning around. "You told me you were going to a work event and it was at Pluto's. You told me it was something Margot insisted you attend.""Because it was—""Don't." He held up a hand. "I don't want to hear you try to reframe a lie.

Cassie felt nothing. Just a cold, clear understanding of how despicable Marcus truly was. She had already known this about him and even lived through it but hearing him say it, so casually, so dismissively, confirmed everything."Who was he talking to?""I don't know. An unknown number sent it to me and I haven't been able to locate the owner yet. “Cassie studied her former best friend for a moment and all she felt was pity. Vanessa looked devastated and broken in a way that Cassie recognized because she'd felt it before. The crushing realization that someone you'd cared about and sacrificed for had never cared about you at all."I thought he loved me." Vanessa looked at Cassie with tears streaming down her face. "I betrayed you and threw our friendship away for him. I chose him over you, and he was just using me the whole time.""Vanessa—""I deserve this. I deserve to feel like garbage because I am garbage." Vanessa's voice grew harder and even more miserable. "But I can't let him

The museum gala was exactly as Cassie expected. Beautiful people in expensive clothes, sipping champagne and pretending to understand modern art they clearly didn't care about.Julian was waiting at the bar, looking genuinely happy to see her. He stood when she approached, and the smile that spread across his face made Cassie's guilt deepen."Cassie. Thank you for coming." He embraced her carefully, keeping it respectful and brief. "I wasn't sure you would actually show up.""Of course I was going to. I gave my word.” Cassie sat on the stool beside him, all while thinking of the fact that she was lying to Dom while socializing with another man who looked absolutely smitten by her. "How have you been?""Good. Busy with work. There are lots of interesting projects in the city." Julian signaled the bartender. "What are you drinking?""Champagne is fine."The bartender brought her a flute of Cristal and Julian ordered a whiskey.“I wanted to see you one more time before leaving you for wh
